!!Nokia N900!! 2010-06-23 21:49

Re: ~7 h battery live, who get's less?

;)i am switching to 2.5G all the time & rarely doing browsing. Only making & recieving calls ( sometimes a lot) + daily updating my application manager once/day to check if any new updates are out.

With the above i have a battery life for 3 days & really happy..:):D:p:o

my biggest problem with my n900 actually is the bad battery live (respecting my using behaviors).

I'm always online with skype, icq and sipgate, download emails one time per hour and my battery lasts only 7 hours :-(

I liked the idea to have a "computer" in my pocket, but like this it's not quite usuable.

I bought some more batteries, but changing battery twice a day sucks. When I'm at home, my N900 is on charger all the time.

I know, that it's not Nokias fault, but that's so disappointing.

What are your experiences?

My 1-year old laptop lasts about 2hours when running on battery; so 7hours with N900 is not that bad :)

Now, the laptop has the duel-core whatever running; 4gig of ram; so it is a bit more powerful on paper; but I actually do not do much on it other than running a spreadsheet or viewing pdf and being connected to the net.:D

If I use it for any reason then time is much shorter.

And sometimes it's really bad depending on application. For example, on Saturday I took phone off charger -- green light, fully charged -- used eCoach for 45 minutes, and 3 hours later my phone was giving me the low battery sound and warnings (i turned it off at that point). So less than 4 hours from fully charged to nearly dead battery.

As other may have mentioned, I would install Conky and BatteryGraph to get a better idea of what are actually running on your N900. I think you may have something running/chewing up the CPU% that you are not aware of.

For my case, I had a week or so of really low battery performance(ie. the unit ran of juice in less that 5 hours). After poking and looking, I found out that two of my recently downloaded widget were the problem - ie. they came on periodically even though the unit was on standby.

cheers

N900, to use its resources fully to at least resonable long enough, you need bigger battery (2400 mAh) compared to the original (1350 mAh) one.
Using WLAN or GPS-tracking w/ bigger battery gives you usually just enough extra juice to get through one day.

Re: ~7 h battery live, who get's less?

Use the 'overclock' kernel with low voltage or ideal profile may also extend the battery performance. However, one needs to be comfortable in working with such setup and needs to be FULLY aware of and ACCEPT the consequences. With my current setup, my unit loss is about 10%/day while in idle mode(ie. no connectivity, no active app open).

All those ideas are good people. But you miss out on the problem. Performance tweaking comes later.
Can we have some more details on your case, please?
Have you done the batterygraph install yet? Which programs have you installed (with version number pls if you used other than extras, like testing or even devel)?
How many widgets are on your desktops and which?

MPW:

You say

"When I'm at home, my N900 is on charger all the time."

In other words, when you are home your N900 hasn't much mobile freedom.

You slould buy an external charger.

The ones I have bought (Hong Kong) work perfectly. Cost about $10.

You say that swapping batteries sucks. I guess, for about ten seconds + reboot time. The rest of the time you get the mobility you paid for.

Re: ~7 h battery live, who get's less?

I get 24hrs plus when never connected to GPRS (2.5G), using stock voltages, using wifi here and there to check mail, check for updates on facebook, etc, no calls, no sms, coulple games, when I'm bored at work, maybe some light reading in the PDF Viewer, but although 24hrs is a lot what I don't like is that, it could be less with constant use because battery level drops fast, but I think I'm just paranoid because with other devices (old old ones) u can't see the % of battery left, but with this device you have ways of keeping a good eye on it. I'm satisfied with my battery for now though. I'm satisfied with the device on the whole.
