That said, now begone with you. This is talk.maemo.org, not troll.symbian.net. And after you leave here, don't go bothering the nice folk over at forum.meego.com either. Kay?

Thanks, and have a nice day!

So the two biggest changes in S^4 are gone, and whatever is coming to Symbian won't be what S^4 was supposed to be.

WTF!!! Do you have a source for this? I thought the layoffs was due to focusing on Qt as UX. If this is true, then I say hello Windows Mobile 7 or Bada and goodbye Nokia.

It has been mentioned here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/10..._we_translate/

Just so we don't confuse ourselves - this *is* a result of focus. No matter how much I feel for Orbit guys/gals, I won't miss reducing the number of different Qt UI toolkit approaches (yes, Nokia actually has/had 5 (five) of them - QWidgets, customized QGraphicsView, MTF, Orbit, and QML/Quick). The fact that Orbit got the short stick doesn't mean there won't be Qt stuff on Symbian or that all Orbit code/knowledge will be thrown out - just that it will come in the form of Qt Quick related tech and not Orbit itself. At least that's how I understood the article.

"we are now discontinuing the Orbit development and continuing just with Qt and Qt Quick" (comment 31).

In finnish, but Union representative for Nokia workers says that previous Qt work (=Orbit) is getting thrown to dumpster.

As for the binary break change, Elop said clearly yesterday on conference call that there won't any break in Symbian. So Avkon is going to stay in at least some form.

Thanks. This looks better and better (instead of doom) :) So there won't be any Symbian4, only Symbian evolving over time with Qt and Qt Quick as the main API. The future for the E7 looks very bright then :) good.

This is one of the best news for nokia fanboys and probably to others as well. Nice to hear the news. Maybe this will attract some more customers towards nokia.

Gosh, I must have been dreaming when I used the first ever Symbian device released (before it was even called Symbian) with a touch screen very well utilised.
