Re: Memory card write protect problems, help please..
I downloaded this http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download
10.04 version, still playing around with it but I like it, very intuitive! I'll have a read through the link you gave later as I'm supposed to be learning words today! I will try and learn what dd and mkfs means and how to use them - I'm keen to learn how to use the commands in terminal (I'm assuming that's what they are) but time is an issue this month. Also, my inner-geek refuses too....;-) edit...mkfs - build a Linux file system ...dd - convert and copy a file see, distracted already!!! :D |
Re: Memory card write protect problems, help please..
MESSAGE FOR BJADOS
you sent me a message about this problem but you cannot receive replies apparently, so this is what I tried to send you:- Yes, It was from ebay, but it showed a full capacity on the PC at first. It was only after I had put some music on it and then inserted the card into the N900 that it gave the error message and became read-only. I have installed ubuntu live cd on my laptop to have a go at fixing it but have been too busy to try yet. I'll have a go in the next couple of weeks and let you know how i get on. Dan |
Re: Memory card write protect problems, help please..
i may be wrong but i once bought a 16gig micro sd off ebay and it was infact only 4gig....it had been altered to look like a 16gig....pc showed it as 16gig but once i got over 3.5 gig of data it meesed up....formating became a nightmare and i then tried it in a camera and it did not recognise it so i chucked it away. are you possitive your card is a legit 16gig card?

Re: Memory card write protect problems, help please..
Hi abill
I plugged it into a usb micro card reader. The PC can see it but won't let me do anything with it... i.e I can open it and see all the folders on it but can't delete, copy, open them. It's been like this for a while and fortunately i'd backed it up prior to the fault developing, which is why i'd be quite happy to delete all and reformat. Tried about every way with windows and all the various suggestions on 'Talk' without any joy, which was why i installed ubuntu on my laptop originally (glad i did now - love it) to try through the terminal on that. Haven't had time to learn the commands i need yet though as quite busy with work the last couple of months (yep, late night bus rides;-))...I'll come back to it in a week or two though because i refuse to be beaten. |
Re: Memory card write protect problems, help please..
Dan maybe you have a drive conflict going on here, try to give the sd a new drive letter that is not showing up on your pc.
I am assuming you can access it in the 900?, if not then i think you may have problems here but very interesting to find out the solution if any. |
