Is it possible to have a small application with UI created to facilitate proper adding of accounts? or is it impossible due to root being required?

It should work, once all services and protocols are installed. One could package all the XML files and to add the accounts only mc-tool and sqlite3 is needed. They both don't need root permissions.


This also works well for ICQ, but it's disabled after a restart.

Do we have a local file that's executed upon boot? Something like rc.local?
Adding the 'mc-tool enable haze/icq/...' line there ...should work because that's all what's needed after reboot to get it working again.

If you get stuck, then typing '.schema accounts' or '.schema settings' will tell you what the fields are called, which may help

This is just the display name, which is displayed on the account screen beneath the protocol name.


All of these values are important to get right. The 14 should be changed to whatever your account id is, and the 20 is the service id. The 'tmc-uid' is the correct line from the output of 'mc-tool list'. Username and password are as you say.

The instructions contain the necessary steps to find these things.

There is a proper way to do this, which would let you create your accounts through the Accounts app like with google etc. The UI is already generated from the provider xml.


Does this keep happening after every restart? I found that the settings table gradually accumulated settings from telepathy. The last one I saw appear was the avatar, and now I can see that in the Availability dialog. Here's the current state of my msn settings:

Maybe you could try setting the 'enabled' boolean one if it's not there? If it works, I'll add it to the last set of insertions on the first post. I'd like to keep that as simple as possible though.

The boolean is already there. It happens, when using mc-tool enable. So I guess this is a ephemeral value...

if you don't have a better idea, I would put this :
to ~/.config/autostart/icq_mctool.desktop, which would be fired after the Xwindow system is started...I know it's more overhead, but it's less than switching on developer mode every time on restart :P

That's great, I will try this myself later. I'll link to your post. I think a new Haze thread might be easier for folks to find though perhaps.

There's already an icq icon on my n9 though in the /usr/share/themes/blanco/meegotouch/icons/ folder. Are they missing on your phone? What do you have? I'll list them all on the first post.

Don't worry, we got already picked up by Maemo Weekly News on Twitter :P I just want to wait until somebody other than me tried this before I start a new thread. So please reply, if it's working for you, using the instructions.
I tinkered with ICQ on my N9 several times before and I can't tell for sure that I haven't missed a step.

You sure there's an icon-m-service-icq.png ? There was only a icon-s-service-icq.png in my folder.

I will get the list later, as my openssh-server is always failing to start when enabling Developer Mode for the second time, unless I restart the phone ;)

You got that on contract? Damn, swiss people are getting all the love from Nokia these days. :D Had to buy mine from Austria, as not available here in Germany :)
