Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Thanks everyone, glad to help out when I can. I may not know what the hell I'm doing but I can copy and past like no one else! ;)
@bunanson: No typos and I typed the whole damn thing on my n800! @gemniii42: exactly, which is why step 6 is how to exit red pill mode. Oh, and some more basic info, I did this on my N800 with OS2008 so I can't vouch for it's effectiveness on other systems. |

That is how bunanson started with a 770, "I may not know what the hell I'm doing but glad to help out when I can", 10 monthes ago. Keep up the good work, it is very rewarding and fun, and again, thanks for the step to step guide. bun |

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
That's odd, I used that method twice (once to do it, and once after I reflashed the kernel just to make sure I knew how) and never had to use 'chmod' ... which is good because I have no idea what it is.
Any chance other people can duplicate the results with/without chmod so we can figure out the difference? |

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Probably did. kernel_flasher has the right permissions by default and being in a tgz would preserve those permissions.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
cool, glad that's taken care of. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so if I missed something I'd feel the need to update it immediately.
And a wiki of this might not be such a bad idea (including the chmod part should someone else use that method). I'll see if I can figure out how to submit to said wiki unless someone else feels up to it. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
I agree. Can't this be matured into a simple app which one can install and uninstall with ease?

The post said to get out of the 'red pill' mode? How do you get out of the red pill mode?

I skipped step 1 since I already have Easyroot.
So I went ahead and tried step 2 both in blue and red pill mode but I got this error each time. Quote:

On step 'E' I enter apt-get install wget. The response is 'Install these packages without verification (y/N)?

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Sorry for the noob replys but I am NOT a programmer, please try and tolerate me!
On step G I entered the (wget http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/kernel_flasher.tgz) The response is: /bin/sh: wget :not found Am I the only one having these issues? |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
That is what the apt-get is there for.

How about a bunanson level (oldest noob, step by step) answer: wget needed to be installed first. re-do the wget step, xterm sudo gainroot apt-get install wget If the message "you already have the latest wget version....." then you proceed with step G, wget Fanosh's file....etc if wget remains not installed, or not properly installed, go gronmayer.com/it/ and search for wget and install via app manager. I had problem with apt-get install wget too. I went thru app manager and it installed fine. Post back results. @qwerty12: Hey, you suppose to help on big/complicated/mind splitting Diablo things. Easy stuff, let me handle it, let bunanson shine, at least for a short moment :p bun bun |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Once again thanks for the help. I am on step (K) and entered (mv zImage kernel_flasher/).
The response is 'no such such file or directory'? Thanks in advance.. Since I updated the wget the previous steps seem to set up ok? |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Wow, just wow!
I actually got this to work perfectly by following your step by steps! Can you imagine that? I can't even do anything right, just ask Qwerty, he'll agree! :D Thank you nemo and qwerty and bun and everyone else that pitched in to make this possible. |

Problem, 1) typo, check the file name 2) not at the right place, check your pathway or directory 3) do not have the file, did not dl properly Solution, on the command line, ls this will list your file, same as dir in the window world and cd to the right directory. cd means change directory, keep on cd and ls, to find your source file and the destination directory, you will get it. Post back results, we will help you. Its a very rewardable experience, get something to work and at the same time, learn a new language and find out how difficult for you to follow instructions. Just kidding, bun |

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
I gather that there is a way for the N810 to automatically rotate the screen back to landscape mode when the keyboard is slid out. Could someone please write up detailed instructions to do this?
I have managed to rotate the screen but it doesn't automatically return to landscape mode when the keyboard is slid out. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Got rotation working in Diablo.
Note: Between Nemo's steps 4 and 5 I had to directly install rotate-sb-plugin. The automatic install in step 5 failed without this (even though once I got to step 5 (after installing plugin), it complained that I already had the plugin installed!). |

I'd like to update the wiki for Diablo since it's out now...sadly I won't be installing it until we figure out how to boot from the memory card. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Hey nemo,
I *think* I'm remembering this correctly... When I clicked on your link for the automatic install at step 5, app manager told me that the install failed because rotate-sb-plugin could not be found (or something like that). So I went to the sse2.net/rotate and found the link for the dedicated .deb for that plugin. Once that installed, I clicked on the automatic install link again. That installed successfully too, although it insisted on telling me that the rotate-sb-plugin was already installed---even though the automatic install failed without first installing the plugin by itself. EDIT: Amazing. For the first time I add something useful around here, and what do I get: a promotion to Senior Member. Unfortunately, that might be the largest hoax ever perpetrated... |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
@lm2:
Thanks, I'll play around with it a bit later and see if I can figure out what's going on. In the meantime, anyone else that has already installed Diablo and is installing the rotate plugin...any problems? |

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
For those who implement rotation with method described in this thread and then wish to clone their diablo OS to sd using penguinbait's install-tools deb: after using PB's clone tools, you will mostly likely need reinstall (in Red Pill mode) this, this, and this. (These are xomap, xrandr, and auto install debs from here.) Then reboot. Rotation should be restored.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Ok, here is prefered way of installing rotation into diablo.
Why? Because all these packages are from diablo, not from chinook. I recompiled all of these using diablo sources, libs & SDK. And also, you are using a chinook kernel in diablo. Works but if you can have the diablo one (which is better, why not) 1. Unzip this to your memory card: http://qwerty12.maemobox.org/Rotate.zip (thanks andrewfblack again) Edit, mirrored, thanks rm_you! http://www.ageofikon.info/Rotate.zip or http://cs.trinity.edu/~acm/debs/Rotate.zip 2. Set the tablet into red pill mode: http://maemo.org/community/wiki/appl...erredpillmode/ 3. Install the packages in this order:
5. Enjoy. NOTE: Emjayes's sliderotate was updated for Diablo and provides an automatic way to do this: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...&postcount=149 Highly recommended. Here is my rotate-sb-plugin mod (original by jott) to rotate the d-pad too.(Well, I say mine but the original idea is Benson's and pH5 helped me with execing a program in a .c and I just did the rest and packaged it up :)): http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...&postcount=219 The rotate-sb-plugin in Rotate.zip is the original. If packages are missing or/and you get something like: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...&postcount=223 Then try first: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...&postcount=224 |
