Why don't you add it into the "PC game ports" thread here?

Yeah cheers, just posted in that thread :)

Is there any chance someone would be able to port this game? I used to love playing it as a kid.

As far as it's closed source, nobody will be able to port this game.. You should ask EA. (anyway, maybe you can play it with dosbox, dunno; seems to have very low requirements and to run on dos)

For anybody asking every kind of game to be ported, things are quite simple:
a) the source code is available: you have some chance to port it (if it doesn't require too high specs; if there aren't technical difficulties; if somebody wants to work on it)
b) the source code is unavailable:
-- b1) the publisher of the software ports it (and usually sells it -> $)
-- b2) you emulate the platform for which the software was made (dosbox/psx emu/gba emu/other console/...)
-- b3) somebody creates an other version of one or more components of the software, which won't be like the original, but strive to be as similar as possible (ex. stratagus/other reverse-engeneered software/opensource alternative/closed source alternative for your platform)

(I hope I didn't make any mistakes)

Quake 3 Possible, Unreal 1 too????

Hello I have installed Quake 3 Arena on my N900, i see its really possible, my question now,

Can anyone make this with Unreal 1 too???

I love the unreal saga and i want to play it on my N900 :D
its the ultimate game in boring meetings :D

Faq:

What is Unreal 1?

Its one of the nicest games ever!

Re: Quake 3 Possible, Unreal 1 too????

I don't believe the unreal engine was ever open sourced, which is why Quake/Quake3 are available.

Re: Quake 3 Possible, Unreal 1 too????

technically it shouldnt be a problem, but yeah, as wmarone said, the unreal-engine was never made open-source, so skip the idea for now... :D

Recently saw this: http://www.introversion.co.uk/uplink...velopercd.html

Im assuming the fact they are charging a license fee is the deal breaker here? :(

Wouldnt Uplink work great on the phone otherwise? I remember running it on quite the trash setups in the past.

Interesting...

Found this:
Quote:

The fundamentals are simple. If you change uplink and produce a "patch" for a platform that we have sold on, then feel free to distribute it. If you produce a totally new version, contact us and we'll try to work something out.
I guess it depends on the person considering the port if they see paying £30 from their pocket as a deal breaker... Whether Introversion would consider Maemo just "Linux" or a separate platform would determine whether you could just throw it out there or need to work something out with them as they write. I'm thinking it's likely they would think it is a new platform... Maybe they'd even like to sell it or maybe it could be released without datafiles as nonfree in the repos.

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

well i'm hoping Red Alert (Part 1) will be ported to the N900 :D

the game itself seems to be freeware as it is available for download, called MiniRA. I guess it would be a great gaming experience on the N900.

Can someone give any information if it is possible or even in progress?

Hmh, Remedy has published Death rally windows for free. Any chances to get the source code for maemo porting?

I remember there had been talk to release sourcecode of Doom3-engine?

Would prBoom³ be possible?

Well, theoretically, yes. BUT, even if it was somehow magically compiled to work on the N900, it wouldn't look like anything you would want to play. If you say Doom3 running on old Voodoo II cards you know what i mean...

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

Doom 3 engine source has not even been released yet, though unless I've missed it. Last time I heard about was when Carmack was saying it's going to be delayed longer than what was the case with Q3.

Castle of The Winds

Hi Folks,

I was wondering if it would be possible for the OLD Rogue like game, Castle of the Winds to be ported to Maemo? I did find the below link, where it seems like it was ported to Linux at some point

Thanks

Unfortunately, your link says:

Quote:

This game runs with WineX/Cedega
... which means that it wasn't ported, it's just running under emulation. :(

As Wikipedia says it runs in Win 3.x, you could try to get DosBox to run Win 3.x, then try it there, but that sounds like a lot of pain.

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

Merged thread Castle of the Winds with two posts.

Just so the method to my madness is clear:
If a thread is created that requests a game port for a PC game, and no obvious way to achieve that exists (e.g. it's a proprietary PC game), it will be merged here.

In the case where a port is requested and an existing open source version is referenced, or some other distinguishing and noteworthy information, it will probably live on as an independent invitation to would-be maintainers.

So: if you want your request to carry some weight and not be just a "me, too" among many, you can increase your chances greatly with some basic research online.

In this case the OP did do some homework; it just turned out unfortunately that what seemed to be an indication of a linux port was in fact only wine-supported simulation.

I'm going to edit the first post of this thread to include this note.

Civ 1 and Colonization would be good candidates for running with Dosbox I think. At least Civ1 is such a low-requirement game that it should run. There's also FreeCiv (already running) and FreeCol (might be possible to port) as free alternatives.

I have made a small patch, which makes the game playable. I have actually passed several levels.
- it works under EasyDebian in Lxde
- the gamefield is larger than the screen, but the player is always visible
- the Escape key is mapped to ctrl
- also, the problems with the return key are fixed

[Request] SimTower

Simtower is a simple little game where you build a hotel. It's really addictive and I think it'd be great on the N900.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to port it to the N900, and how well you think it would run?

Broken sword 1 and 2 are already on N900. If you have the games, just install scummvm and copy the datafiles.

Vega Strike is an Open Source 3D Action-Space-Sim that lets you trade, fight, and explore in a vast universe.
Vega Strike is built on top of OpenGL and runs on Win/Lin/Mac platforms. Vega Strike (the game) is currently in a playable state, but both game engine and dataset are under continued development. For more details, see About VS or visit the forums and dev blog.
