Re: [Announce] TouchSearch for Fremantle

Ok, I just uploaded a new version to estras-devel (3.2-3). I am confident that this version will work.

To test, download from extras-devel or here: http://www.touchsearch.org/downloads..._3.2-3_all.deb

Thanks for testing!

thanks....working now..

Re: [Announce] TouchSearch for Fremantle

Confirmed, it's back on my desktop.

Also, a suggestion: Could you add a NULL search engine or a similar concept? Or maybe a feeling lucky thing. I'd think being able to just go to a site I want from the desktop would be cool, now I have to go through the Web thing.

Either use a http://%s or simply %s and start the edit box with a http:// default in it. Alternately, a feeling lucky or similar thing, whatever Firefox uses when I type random stuff in the address bar. I think it uses Google as a back end.

Seconded this idea.

Thanks, Brent - latest working fine now, after I remembered to delete previous before downloading the .deb (!)

Before that I tried using FapMan to upgrade and suffered the disappearing widget syndrome.

Will donate on Pay Day - this really is one of the key apps to a good N900 experience :)

I could add a search engine that is just "http://%s" and that way you could just input the website directly.

Adding the http prefix to the search form would need a special code change in TS to enable that -- do you think it is really necessary?

I have no grasp of how difficult stuff is, I only write for Windows. So, no, not necessary, whichever is easier.

Cool. OK, I'll create that search engine and then push it along with the next release of TS.

Never have used an Android device -- how is its search widget designed?

I wanted to design TouchSearch like that when I started, but it is impossible. Desktop widgets cannot have data entered directly into them via the keyboard -- this is a limitation of the device operating software. Unfortunately there is no way to work around this, and that led me to having the separate dialog to actually enter the query.

Re: [Announce] TouchSearch for Fremantle

I want to let everyone know that I have promoted the newest version (3.2-3) of TS to extras-testing.

Here is the official changelog:

* Changed: "Create engine" dialog to stay open after error
* Changed: Favorites button in Setting dialog to expand only to allocation size

I know, not much, just fixing a couple nagging bugs. If it is working well for you, please vote for it on its testing page here so I can push it to Extras.

Thanks.

Erm, sticky-notes uses a workaround for achieving this. It might be harder to use the data, as well as capture distinct keystrokes, such as a carriage return - but it's possible to overlay on the desktop and make it appear as a widget.

Either way, I think TS is just perfect the way it is.

Re: [Announce] TouchSearch for Fremantle

If it were possible to have multiple widgets, that would shorten some things, I could have one for Google, one for Wikipedia, e.g. OTOH, the widget itself could have the buttons, like the top bar in the search dialog. Then one could tap-type, instead of tap, type, tap, enter.

You know, in case you are out of ideas. :)

Yes you can, if you edit file Google.search in home/opt/touchsearch/search_engines/Google.

Just replace
Code:

url = http://www.google.%(lang)s/custom?hl=en&client=pub-2014082016242195&cof=FORID:13%%3BAH:left%%3BCX:TouchSearch%%3BL:http://www.gstatic.com/m/images/logo_large_noshade.gif%%3BLH:53%%3BLP:1%%3BKMBOC:%%23336699%%3B&cx=003942025946635967052:ezj9nrxdp_o&adkw=AELymgVBxh1Gx1MjFcrGcJ_WC8vXM4CfpuUUnNdPh2HRpDeibmqxBLPvAJyoL-Mqvm0t9f1Wi5csTfyn6SJa6H0603e4RpfWkugh2dROb8Hk3fpWzF8lPfw&channel=9109547851&ei=cMEgTdibDMOblgenm6G7Cw&q=%(query)s
with
Code:

url = http://www.google.%(lang)s/search?&sclient=psy&site=&source=hp&q=%(query)s&btnG=Search

Because everybody is not using just Google, here are search engines and icons also for Bing, Yahoo and The Pirate Bay :D.

1. Extract icons from attached file and store them somewhere on N900.

2. Follow these instructions from "Step 2 & 3" and use below posted URLs for filling URL field.

3. Uncheck box for "Create icon automatically" and then press on button "Select custom icon". Browse to the location where are previously stored icons and select the proper one (Bing's URL --> Bing's icon).

Enjoy searching. :D

Bing
Code:

http://www.bing.com/search?q={query}&go=&form=QBLH
Yahoo:
Code:

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p={query}&fr=sfp&fr2=&iscqry=
The Pirate Bay
Code:

http://thepiratebay.org/search/{query}/0/99/0
The Pirate Bay can be sometimes unreachable.
