Oh I'd love a game using bears! Please don't let me start thinking up a bears game!

What with the sheep, extras-game, and I'm about to suggest something else... I'll be seen as a demanding little madam.

Wrong sort of ears, though.

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Hello,

this is my little bump, asking for graphics. I think that we are slowly moving to the actual game being created, it would be really great if someone could take care of those graphics:
-animated sheep (nothing special, few frames with tail, head movement)
-juicy grass dots, seen from above, round of about 40 px radius (I like this style
-simple icons, such as: close button (cross), sound on/off, pause/play (rather small, up to ~30 px radius)

There is the issue with the dog, if someone could handle it, would be great. If not, we will have to live with a 'blob' being moved. Also if someone could think about icon for the game, it would be great.

I know it is a lot, but I believe in this community :) Together we can make a real game from it.

hopebeat

sheep
just lop the heads and tails off and have their position vary a bit
should animate enough initially?

as for close button mmm cant you just use the window buttons or will each app need its own?

i can see the need for the other glyphs because they arent there.

/me ponders how to convert kathys dog photos into cartoons

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

There's a photoshop filter/technique (i don't know photoshop, but i've seen it done) which converts a photo into a drawing
YMMV, but it may be worth a shot

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

@lcuk, if no-one will work on this, I will do it myself. But I'm a lazy and graphically-challenged person, so I'm asking for a full packet :) Plus I have played angry birds, so I'm in a 'damn, those are some cute graphics' stage :)

RevdKathy 2010-01-12 09:05

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Hey, our sheep are a damned sight cuter than any bloomin' birds! Do birds have wool? And Qt faces? And our sheep aren't angry - which is bound to be cuter.

Seriously, the look of our game is good. :)

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Found this in my inbox today. It made me think of Hopbeat...

(Yeah, I know this is spam)

A flock of sheep are romping in a field, happily going "baa baa" to each other and discussing life as usual when suddenly they hear a "moo mooooooooooooooooooo!"

They look around and see only sheep. They carry on playing as before.

"Moooooo mooooooooooo mmmoo!"

One sheep can hear it all too clearly next to him. He shuffles away a little from his friend, a worried look on his face, and then asks, "Georgie, why are you mooing? You're a sheep. Sheep go 'baa'!"

His friend replies gladly, "I know. I thought I would learn a foreign language!"

I made some simple icons. I can change colours, size etc.
I'm thinking about something more funny, but maybe after weekend.

They already look nice enough for the first version (my opinion). Great work!

This is my second try with the icons (play, pause, exit, sound-on, sound-off). These are more original and I hope you like them, RevdKathy. :)

Haha, great work.

That's really, really creative! Thank you. I hope Hopbeat can use them. I especially love the 'exit' button! :D

it is and it does. :)

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

@mivoligo, now those are cute ones!
I'm polishing some rough corners and adding extra features, hopefully in the weekend I should have something to show (off) :)

RevdKathy 2010-01-27 08:25

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

That's great news Hopbeat. I was about to tweet you the new sheep-cons in case you'd missed them. I really really like that exit button - it makes me giggle.

hopbeat 2010-01-27 10:35

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Ok, the icons are in the game and they look great.

@mivoligo, any chance you could give a game icon a shoot? I like this style :)

mivoligo 2010-01-27 11:04

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

@hopbeat, I'll try to make something maybe tonight. I can't promise though .

RevdKathy 2010-01-27 12:09

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

As 'exit' is the sheep walking away, perhaps 'start' should be the sheep walking towards you?

What do you think about this as an application icon?

lcuk 2010-01-28 11:21

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

mivoligo
thats great

but you just upped the bar (or is that baaaa) by adding bells!

new ambient sounds perhaps?

does anyone live on a real farm and can get some real sounds from a flock of sheep?

RevdKathy 2010-01-28 13:10

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

I think our baas are probably sufficient. If anyone has access to an old sheep or cowbell (souvenir of a trip to Switzerland?) and would like to record a few bongs to go with the baas...

Then of course the sheepdog should have some woofs... and we could get into real cacophony. :D

(My experience of cow/sheep bells suggests more 'doink' than bong' actually)

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Ok, guys and girls, I will need your help once more:
What is the name of our game? Anything more original then just 'Sheep'?

mivoligo 2010-01-29 12:07

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Maybe: "Maesheep" or "Sheep hunting" or "Ovis aries" or "Wobbly sheep" or "baaAEMOoo". :P

RevdKathy 2010-01-29 12:21

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

It was originally either 'sheep' or 'sheepdog'. But if there's something more creative...

Let's all think for a few hours. :)

Lacedaemon 2010-01-29 13:01

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Shepherd? :p

RevdKathy 2010-01-29 18:18

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

I believe that is taken. ;)

Merino? Kind of pretty but doesn't tell you much.

(I just wasted a chunk of time here.. this project is getting to me!)

Lassie, of course was the sheepdog par excellence. (We could move on to an underwater version called 'flipper' and a jumpy version called 'skippy'. ;) )

I would also suggest "That'll do" which is a bona fide sheepdog command for when the task is complete. (As in "That'll do, Hopbeat" meaning "Well done, have a nice tasty dog biscuit" :p)

DaSilva 2010-01-30 03:25

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Haha, I like "Maesheep". You can see a part of the "Maemo" and you can hear the maaaeeee from the sheeps :D

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Maybe MaeSheep? I think it is nice. @RevdKathy?

RevdKathy 2010-01-30 10:02

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Fine with me. MaeSheep it is. I just tweeted you that, actually. ;)

How's it going?

DaSilva 2010-01-31 05:49

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

The new sheep version (why still the old name?) is much better but not perfect. The three buttons at the top are movable and can become inaccessible because of this.

hopbeat 2010-01-31 07:35

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

@DaSilva, the name change will be in the next bigger release (this sounds sooo big :) ).
Can you give an example how the icons can become inaccessible? If you stack them, you can always rearrange them?

DaSilva 2010-01-31 08:08

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Ah okay. Yeah, I mean if they are stacked it is a little strange. Maybe the user should only be able to move them up/down but not right/left?

hopbeat 2010-02-05 21:44

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Hi,

anyone (@mivoligo ?) could come up with a whistle icon? :)
It can be a bit larger than the previous icons (60-70 pix should be all right) and can actually be round (standard transparency).

Baaah!

RevdKathy 2010-02-05 21:46

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

Admit it: you've been practising your dog whistles! ;)

hopbeat 2010-02-05 21:47

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

@RevdKathy, yes, my mouth hurts after the whole day.
No promises at this point, I still have some performance issues. But fighting with it :)

RevdKathy 2010-02-05 21:50

Re: Artists and designers - I need help: sheep!

What with stobbsc and the baaing and now you whistling, this project team is going to end up in straight-jackets!

The woman who thinks she's a teddy bear just might be the sanest among us. Just.

I can do that on Sunday.
