Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Got mine yesterday, and already got two stuck pixels - figure they're not dead because bright and not visible on white background.
Tried running the website which does the colors flash, and the video on the main post, still nothing. Is there any hope? Because I bought it in US and currently in Israel, I cannot ship it back to switch (at least not worth it for now..). Also I heard jScreenFix is a good app, is there any chance it would work on maemo? (maybe in future) Thanks. |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
OK, Just an update.
Ive got my second N900 now. The speakerphone seems to work ok. There are "less" stuck pixels now. Ive counted 2 very small ones (evidently small from the screen res ) These are NOT in annoying positions ( both where the main menu button is ) so cant see them unless looking very closely with a black BG on full screen Also now when i tilt the screen , there is "less" night sky effect with only a few shimmering pixels. I can live with this so will consider case closed. |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Just recieved my replacement n900 and I have 2 troubled pixels! One at the center which can only be seen when I tilt the screen so that's no problem but the other is a very bright white at the bottom right which I can always see at the corner of my eye...extremely annoying! I am not very impressed.

Get my N900 from repair after 15 days since I placed N900 to the NOKIA store where I bought it.
___BAD results, because there are still a few shiny dots (4 against 33_on_the_previous), only 2 of them can annoying - but they don't - 1 of these 2 is in edge of the screen. Medium brightness and they are invisible. So night sky have almost gone, BUT there a new one defect of the screen appeared. Now I have N900 with some kind of *something*, because I don't know English well. Attachment 6341 That thing is visible by tilting and not annoying me too mutch, because most of the time I cant see it because seldom look my N900 from big angle. But I'am planning to get repair. P.S.: there was Hard Electric Repair and Microcircuit ASIP 2-ch MIC EMI/ESD FILT 400UM BGA64129309 (or BGA6 4129309) was used as spare rart P.S.№2: in receipt there was URL where commentaries about the repair that was made can be thrown. I did it:D |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Ok sorry to hear your result, yes just continue to bother the repair department, maybe this time they will give you a new one.
Just today I went down to the repair office to complain about the long waiting time, been 15 days now, and they are still waiting for some spare parts, seems that I will get a new screen and new slider mechanism, they said expected to be finished next week, finger crossed that this is trye and everything will be fine when I get it back. |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Just picked mine up today, NO dead or stuck pixels, slider is changed as well, feels much better when slided together. Me so happy have really missed my N900, going back to my N97 was not fun, so slow and laggy, and not fun to use at all.
Only little downside, is some micro dust particles under the screen, no problem, and will live with it (only it when I light on the screen with my flashlight). |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900? - Now with Poll, please wote!
im on my 3rd phone, no stuck pixels on either preproduction, 1st batch or the 3rd retail one :)
So I guess there are a few unlucky one's out there. Same as the rebooting devices, a few flawed ones and the rest top notch. Guess that the "messed up" one's have a pretty big chance to be mentioned on this forum, and that results in people thinking omg there are so many!!! Well, people with a problem/ flawd device tend to look for a solution (I would...) But great news they sorted you out OP :D |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
i have a dead pixel, but it doesn't bother me. It is not really noticeable unless i try hard to look for it.

Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!

Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
I thought that's normal, mine is flexing as well, but you need to push it harder than you'd normaly do so it's a non-issue.
|
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Mine flexes a little bit too but not as bad as in that video.

Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!

hey guys... i think i'm pretty unfortunate with the dead pixel problem with Amazon... and i'm still waiting for the RMA to come thru. in short:
1) i live in Australia, got my friend in USA to order 2 N900's for myself and a friend here in Aus 2) phone 1=ok, phone 2=dead pixels. 3) received RMA for phone 2, both look good, shipped to Aus 4) phone 2 is all good, discovered that phone 1 (my phone) has 4 freaking dead pixels! sent back to US, RMA submitted 5) RMA phone received, has dead pixels(!) 6) awaiting next replacement on the fauty RMA :( has anyone here been as unlucky as me? and does Amazon have a dead pixel history?? because it's really frustrating getting a replacement only to find out that it has dead pixels again... |

Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Ordered mine from Dell and noticed 2 "stuck" pixels. One is a bit more noticeable than the other because it's white and the other is red. It's not too bad even on the brightest setting but I have to really look for it to see them.
I decided to ask Dell for an exchange because I'm really picky, especially since I paid a lot for this phone. Suprisingly I got a new N900 the very next day (talk about service!). Sadly, the new N900 was even worse. It had 5 stuck pixels (1 white and 4 red/green dots). I'll probably keep the first N900 because it's not too big of a deal, but what are the odds of getting 2 N900s with more than 2 "stuck" pixels... I'm worried about Nokia's quality control... but then again I might just be unlucky. However, I've never owned a phone or lcd tv/monitor that had any visible dead/stuck pixels. |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
It is very likely if they both comes from same batch, I think Nokia really needs to get their act together, can remember 5800 also having allot of problems.
And out of the blue yesterday, just noticed light coming from the left corner, between the keyboard and screen, you know where the LED lights when charging and so on, strange I thought did not do that before I send it for repairs. After investigating i seems like that there is a screw missing in the lower left corner, man what a bummer, just got it back, and now this. So now it is in for repairs second time, unfortunately the guy that repaired my N900 the first time was not there, so will probably first be sometime next week. Man what a crappy service guy, forgetting to put a screw in, man that sucks... |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
I think I read somewhere that the date the phone was made was printed on the label on the outside of the box. Both boxes said 51/2009. However, one thing I noticed was that the battery/back cover had different "version" numbers. The first phone said V 9.0 and the second said V 10.0. Not sure if that means anything or if that stands for version.
Anyway, just a little disappointed with the stuck pixels but they aren't too bad and I have to look for them. I still love this phone though. One of the best phones I've ever owned (less problematic for me than the N97). |

I have like 3 ''white'' pixels, and 1 is bigger then other 2. They are noticeable only on black background. I will try to fix it with that video, I hope it will help-

Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Hi,
got about three new pixels stuck (at first only had two ones), it feels like the phone is not only getting stuck pixels at the manufacturing but also later on. I am really afraid that this will continue and I would get more and more stuck pixels. The video thing does not work. Maybe someone tried the method of pressing the point on the screen where the stuck pixel is with something sharp, while playing the video? Some guides say it might help, although this is a touch screen so I'm not sure. I'm in Israel so sending it back would cost a fortune. Really dunno what to do... :( |

No dust, no dead pixels, bought the N900 in mid-December. This is from a batch, which landed in the US.

Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
i have 2 bright see-through cirlces in my screen, the inside of these 2 cirlces are significantly brighter than the rest of the screen, you can really see it when looking at bright colors or an all white background,
does anyone else have the same problem? or know what this might be caused by or a way to fix it>? |
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
mine is also ok...no dead pixel...nothing...
|
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Two bright pixels on mine. Not very happy about. Should have known I would get something crappy about it. Nokia's top of the line phones are always a disappointment quality wise. My Nokia E90 screen was damaged by the faulty keyboard design.

Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
At time of writing, 34.55% of voters in this poll have a dead or stuck pixel! I assume the real numbers aren't that high. Can people who don't have dead/stuck pixels please vote too, to make the numbers less frightening.
|
Re: Is Dead pixels a general problem on N900?, please comment!
Did vote.
While I do have sometimes stuck pixels, leaving the display off for a longer period of time (e.g. 3-4 hours on my desk without turning screen on) or rebooting helps. This happens very rarely. 2-3 times since I have the N900...so I don't have "stuck" pixels, but more of "temporary stuck" pixels. That's close enough to perfect for me ;) |

oops... i forgot about my post on this :) yeah it sucks big time. i used aus post express, and it cost me about aud$59 + aud$20 for insurance. it wasnt cheap, but i had to get it there quick for the RMA to work. my replacement is on its way, and i should get it later this week. touch wood it's all good :) unfortunately i didnt keep a record, but my housemate got the phone as well (i got it for him, and he was the lucky one without any problems) and his box says 50-2009. that means it was manufactured in mid Dec 09 right? does it matter ie is there a certain batch of N900s with problems? |
