Not a fan of the black and white, makes reading some text quite hard, the white text on lighter backgrounds doesnt work too well. Wallpaper is nice though, but still prefer the nseries blue theme

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

Can someone please post the Application Manager catalogue info so I don't have to get a Nokia Account to download apps?

Or does the catalogue hide / obfuscate the apps so you have to go to the Ovi store?

EDIT: Bundyo nudged me in the right direction and after hunting a bit I've found this post:

Doing an "apt-get update" and "apt-cache search offscr" gives me a list of all of the new apps offered through Ovi.

you need to go on the site.. coz after you click the "download" on ovi store.. i\the application manger will automatically open and it will download then install the app..

Works in Cyprus by going directly to http://store.ovi.mobi . The Ovi Store icon still says Coming Soon

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

Qole - its the same one posted before in the previous Ovi thread.

Catalogue name: Ovi
Web Address: https://downloads.maemo.nokia.com/fremantle/ovi
Distribution: ./

I'm not sure you'll see them in App manager, use apt-cache to search for birds and offscr.

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

just type on ur browser http://store.ovi.com (its Ovi beta). Dont use link thats on ur mobile its still give u "coming soon". And when u click to download any application its automatically going to open ur App.Manager and will create link in ur Application catalogs folder to Ovi just like any other out there (nokia system, maemo, extra,..etc) and then proceed to download app.

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

Some nice little fun apps in there by offscr mostly. Couple of themes too (Harmony BlkWhite, Alpine).

I like the way you can browse the store on the web and have it send an sms to your phone with a direct link to an app you want. Then on the phone you can to click on it, login (leave a browser open so the cookie remains for the next one), then download, then wait for app manager to install it.

Frankly I realized this would take a while to check out all the 10+ apps I wanted to, so I ended up doing the following (in case anyone is interested)

1) using Modify Headers extension in Firefox on desktop changed my User-Agent to the N900 one (found easily on various sites)
2) Use that to make ovi store think my desktop is a N900, so it gave me the Download link
3) Downloaded all the .install files for all the apps still on the desktop, then opened them up in a text editor to get the package names
4) Finally pasted all of those in an root ssh session to the phone, in apt-get install <package1> <package2> <package3> etc
5) Took 2 minutes or so to download and install 10 apps including big themes.

I wonder if there's an easier way to select many apps for installation that I missed rather than go through all this.

Sidenote, rootfs is full again :(

I have your solution. Open many windows and get ready to press all the download buttons once each is done :D Doesn't work too bad for me in the mean time while they develop something :D:D

Not every 3rd party theme have a switch to unlock. Is it a bug?

the World City theme had yellow colour scheme when i installed it as in hilighted text, loading bars, fonts, lock screen etc. but just in front of my very eyes i watched it all change to blue by itself. is this a design or a bug?

You should be aware that apt-get stores the downloaded debs at (note, the application manager doesn't):
/var/cache/apt/archives/

It's safe to clean them after installation either by
rm /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb
or (simply)
apt-get clean

This should free some space if you haven't done it already.

How do you access the store? I updated and have the new pretty store interface, but see none of the games or the snow ball :(

I tried going straight to the store via the web, but still says "coming soon".

Hmm, methinks some of these apps aren't optified. At least my rootfs usage went up (even after a reboot).

As for themes.. could someone post a screenshot of them actually using it? When I try them they look a bit.. ugly.

If we buy something from the OVI store, should we assume it has been optified or not? Is Nokia checking to see that stuff it is selling is safe?

Re the themes, Wordcity theme resets back to the default theme everytime you restart.

The Badlands theme, on the other hand, keeps the badlands girls even after restarting :D

It appears that the games are optified, but not the libraries they depend on (according to another thread). Basically QT 4.5 is optified but some apps use QT 4.6 but that's not optified yet.

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

Just did the update first and then got the ovi store too.
Thanks Nokia ... at least we are started on the path ...

Loving Angry Birds - this is as good or better than many iPhone games ...
the Airport game is like the Flight Control game on the iPod or Iphones - but is not as easy and good as the iPhone version though.

Got to try out a few more games.
How about some apps which are new and not in the repos as yet - or all apps on Ovi store are already on the repos ?

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

Works here in western Canada. I love the easy download/install process. I've never used an iPhone, Droid, etc. so I can't compare, but I think Nokia has done a bang up job.

I'm a practical sort of guy, so I downloaded Level and Anglemeter first. I think these are useful little app-lets, but I'm not convinced of the accuracy.

Solitaire next, then Elements, then ....

Laughing Man 2010-01-12 04:59

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

I can't imagine the level would be 100% accurate. The camera protrudes a little bit so the N900 doesn't lie perfectly straight.

unkno 2010-01-12 05:04

Re: OVI STORE is open for business

Will the newly added OVI repository in the application manager feature the downloads in the OVI store? Or do we have to install directly from the web OVI store?

I think the idea is to place the bottom edge of the phone against the object to be measured. It actually does work but the angle meter in particular doesn't settle well. I'll need to play around with it some more.

could it be you're on page 1 and need to click "next" (or whatever it says in your language)? the button is right below the last application, on the right side.

also, when you enter the store, they give you a list of recommendations. this list could be short in theory. (it's long for me.) click on one of the categories in the grey toolbar on top of the page (applications, games,...) to see the full selection.
