Is it possible to get rid of the Science category? It seems like you hardly store anything there. It'll be better to create a category called "CONVERSATION" and you put contact, email, pidgin, conversation all in there rather than "NETWORK."

The file is /opt/catorise/menu, it is not exposed via mass storage mode. You can edit it as any user, but /opt/catorise/catorise needs to be run as root to enact the changes.

I know this isn't a step-by-step newbie-friendly tutorial.

Can you please raise a bug with the list of apps you've opened and take a screenshot of the result. It is almost certainly a bug in hildon-desktop.

I don't "store" anything anywhere. The categories correspond to the ones which which are available to packagers which were based on the freedesktop.org categories. The section is used within the Application Manager and maemo.org Downloads.

The names of the categories are taken from Application Manager's localised text for those categories and the applications within a category are decided by the packagers.

The only thing I've categorised are the built-in applications (which don't have valid information), if you think anything else is miscategorised it is a bug in that package.

If you get flasher-3.5 from tablets-dev.nokia.com, you can --enable-rd-mode --set-rd-flags=disable-lifeguard-reset and then repeatedly press Ctrl-Shift-X during booting to resolve whatever error situation you are in (and the output of df -h would be useful).

Alternatively, you can reflash.

SubSix 2010-02-16 16:02

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

hmmm i was trying to flash it, but it didnt worked.

first:
i installed maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2 (for xp),
downloaded bin: RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM (Latest Maemo 5 Middle East and North Africa release for Nokia N900)

second:
i put the bin file in flash3.5 folder
then i connect the usb to phone using U to flash

in cmd command i type:
flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin -f -R

then i had msg back:
flasher v2.5.2 <Sep 24 2009>

RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin: %m

and thats all, nothing happened

about your first option, i didnt understand where i type those commands

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

I'd stay away from R&D mode if you're not fully comfortable with what you're doing, SubSix...

Stick to the flashing - in your other thread about this, someone has posted a response that should get you flashing okay. You have to put the .bin file in the same directory as the flasher - that's why you got your error message.

Maybe you could delete the other thread as this is all being repeated now :)

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

ah true, i was in shortcut folder :P heh
now when i hold 'u' and connect device via usb it find it but when i type:
flasher-3.5.exe -F RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM.bin -f -R

it saying Suitable usb device not found, waiting...

kinda funny when i go to my computer its there

EDIT:
i didnt knew i need to start phone so it start the flash thing..

At the moment it uses the translations from the Application Manager. We could use our own set of translations (based off the community translations), but I'd rather #8955 was fixed in hildon-desktop.

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

A new release of Catorise, 0.8.2 is now in Extras-testing:

http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...atorise/0.8.2/

Compared with 0.8.0 in Extras, this includes some improvements in recognising Ovi applications - especially on PR1.2 (according to users using the leaked image). However, some Ovi applications will end up in Other due to the approach Nokia took in the last attempt to get the Ovi Store working on Maemo.

We will wait and see if they come up with a better solution anytime soon.

after the installation of pr1.2 some icons changed place after their applications were reinstalled from the lsst backup. For example Angry Birds is now on Other (it used to be in OVI folder).
I would like that someone could teach me to move the icons from the wrong place to the right folder).

I´m having problems with the order of the top level icons. They are in a strange order. using the new (PR1.2) ordering function does not help.
Using ver 0.8.2.

Anyone know how to fix this?
Maybe I'll try the version from devel?

In my case, catorise (v.0.8.2) (and even mymenu) are doing nothing after installation on maemo version 10.2010.19-1.

Even not by invoking catorise manually from xTerm "/opt/catorise/catorise".

Thanks for your help!

Uninstalling the catorize and most of my icons are gone, such as file management, backups and all the programs I have installed.

Even thought about reinstalling to see if catorize hand didst but know how, since creating a shortcut on the desktop manager, it does not open. Creates the shortcut but does nothing, and all the icons that are gone.

I have pr 1.2 installed

Please help

Where's the "Mobile Hotspot" package, so that I can inspect its .desktop file? I suspect it's specifying an incorrect freedesktop.org category.

"Strange"? Please be more specific.
  • What applications do you have installed?
  • Can you post your /opt/catorise/menu file, please?
  • Can you post your /etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu file, please?
  • Can you run, as root, /opt/catorise/catorise and paste the output?

Thanks in advance.

The package can be found in extras-testing/devel.

Hi,

I have fixed the issue whereby running catorise does nothing. Simply:

Code:

cp /etc/xdg/menus/hildon.menu /home/user/.config/menus/
Then, as root, run catorise again!

Re: [Maemo 5] Catorise: auto-sort applications menu

Quick question, I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find version 0.8.0 or 0.8.1?

I can't seem to find the old .deb and the package overview states that the old versions were cleaned from the repositories. About a week ago I updated to the current 0.8.2 and it seems to conflict with something else I have installed causing hildon-desktop to hover at 5-6% of cpu usage or hildon-thumbnail to hover at 30-35% usage with only Conky running. After uninstalling 0.8.2, Conky showed hildon-desktop dropping back to at most 1-2% and hildon-thumbnail to nothing. I miss the clean menus of Catorise and currently it would be easier for me to revert to an older version rather than finding the other conflicting program(s). Thanks in advance.

It seems unlikely that it's anything to do with Catorise. The menu generation code hasn't changed for ages (just performance improvements for reading package lists and heuristics for picking up Ovi apps).

So I'm not sure downgrading Catorise would help. Does it persist even after a reboot?

When you say "Catorise does nothing"; can you explain - exactly - the symptoms you'd seen; whether they were reproducible; whether you'd customised your menu any other way (say using the PR1.2 feature or MyMenu or similar and so on?

Thanks in advance.

Well, disabling catorise (by renaming hildon.catorise to hildon.menu) and using the default menu sees the hildon-desktop cpu % remain low after using the menu multiple times.

With the catorise menu it results in elevated cpu use by hildon-desktop after accessing the menu as described by folk above. Restarting the desktop returns matters to normal until the catorise menu is accessed.

Nice app though, thanks

It sounds like a bug in hildon-desktop; can you attach your Catorise hildon.menu somewhere? Possibly even a bug report? :-)

Sounds pretty conclusive. Your /opt/catorise/menu file and the /home/user/.config/menus directory would also be extremely useful in trying to diagnose the cause of the problem.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

I rebooted a couple of times and shortly after going to the Catorise menu the problem would reappear each time. I then uninstalled Catorise and went without it for 2 days and was fine. Reinstalling Catorise from Extras thereafter reintroduced the problem again so I just finally decided to go without it and I've been fine ever since.

I also don't think the problem is Catorise (could be hildon-desktop like you mention later for all I know) but it would be easier to revert that single program. At least that's my lazy work around to test if Catorise was the catalyst for the problem like I believe. I'll also try to get you my copy of those files you requested of handaxe so you have at least 2 samples to work with. Thank you kindly for your time.

There's an app called "Catorise GUI" with which you can re-arrange items.
