Very cool game, enjoying it. One possible bug / missing feature I've spotted is that the volume doesn't seem to respect the system volume level, I had to mute the music/sound in the game because no matter how low I set the system volume, it was always very loud.

Other than that, great job SE

Finally a great game that I got because of NOT open-source :)

Gets me thinking back to when i browsed the N900 software the 1th. time, Anarchism is what was available. Well `money talks, ******** walks`. Thanks for understanding that I am willing to pay for quality software.

And lol for the auto ******** (decrypted) (b-u-l-l-s-h-i-t)

Same here with Visa (Germany), credit card was refused, but no problems with Angry Birds level pack 1 a few weeks ago.
I called the Visa hotline, the card is ok, but they said someone tried to charge it with 1 british pound (the amount should be EUR 4.99!), which was refused because of bad experiences with that dealer. A bit vaguely she said "Not necessarily the web shop is untrustworthy".

I hope, OVI will adjust this soon.

How many levels?

Any additions to come?

76 levels included: Tree of Reflection, Tree of Challenge and Tree of Nostalgia.

Zen Bound 2 for iPad includes

* Over 100 levels
* New gameplay modes with paint bombs
* Highly detailed visuals, gorgeous on the iPad screen
* Intuitive and natural multi-touch controls (tilt supported)
* New 'Ghost Monkey' music for a total soundtrack length of 45 minutes
* All levels from the original Zen Bound, all with visual upgrades, some with new gameplay
* Tree of Tribute, featuring guest stars from independently developed iPhone games

Source: http://zenbound.com/

So there are two options. Either we will see Zen Bound 2 on N9/MeeGo only or when new levels come to iPhone we will get update for N900

I bought it yesterday. I got the same failure with rootfs being full, but eventually the application manager popped up and the game installed without a problem.

It's quite addictive and relaxing. Perfect for a daily train commute.

Crap, after payment I get an error around the .deb package, even though I have enough root space. Any ideas anyone?

I have the same problem. I can't play with headphones because the sound is too loud and volume does not react to hardware volume controls. I could also not find a way to change volume on ingame menu.

Otherwise I like the game.

I got the "/var/temp/zenbound*.deb could not be saved" error. So I checked download manager and it was paused at 14%, so I resumed the download and it paused again at 15%, so I resumed again.
That worked up until 30% when it stopped downloading and displayed the message saying that I'ved reached the download limit and should either buy it again or contact customer care :(

Had the same payment problem with a MasterCard that worked fine for AngryBirds Level Pack. Tried it multiple times, and every time there is a 1GBP charge* to the card, and then it fails.

* it's not actually a charge, it's a reserved amount, and the funds will be unlocked by month end, but it's highly annoying to have this limit placed upon your own funds in addition to the game price

The hardware volume buttons are used in Zen Bound to control the game's internal volume (not system volume). There is no graphical pop-over, but the game does respect the buttons on the side of the device and you can use them to adjust the volume on the headphones.

Ghost Reporting :
- Payed, Downloaded, Installed all ViA wireless in about 5 min.
- Everything worked 1st shot.

I do have 80mb free on rootfs, but got loads of crap installed on my phone from all kind of extras-* repos.
The game works great, smooth, fun.
The alligator does look kinda pissed at me though... ):

One thing that I did notice, as discussed in this thread is the fact that the file was downloaded to the rootfs, and deleted after install, this means it fails if not enough room - So I was actually lucky (:
I watched my rootfs get filled in conky while the download was running...
Kinda scarry (:

You are right. The reason I could not get it to work is that the volume button works in the opposite direction than typically (and I being stubborn just kept pushing the volume up, not down :o. No wonder the sound was loud). Which is fine because the game runs in the portrait mode so it makes total sense that pushing down lowers the volume (like in the phone application when it is in portrait mode).

I don't know, but my Zen Bound has no icon.

Is it supposed to have no icon? I can't even find it in OVI store now!

Re: Secret Exit to release games for N900

Regarding Stair Dismount and our future plans:

As mentioned in the original post, the other game that will be available on Ovi Store (as soon as possible) is SPiN, the fast-paced 3D shape-matching arcade puzzle game.

The sales of those two games will determine if further titles will be ported to Ovi Store. The math for that determination is simple: if the sales from Ovi Store are higher than the cost of taking one of our guys off some other project to do the port, then further games make sense.

So, the big picture for us is to get these two games out, see what happens and then figure out what to do next. It has been great to see the response on this forum and I personally tip my hat to everyone who's supported both our studio and the platform itself.

And for those who have uploaded Zen Bound to file sharing sites, I hope you someday understand how much damage you were doing in a critical time for the N900, a device you own and apparently want to play games on. Piracy can kill a platform, and right now is the worst time to steal a game if you ever want to see a new one.

Frand, I truly hope and pray there will be enough demand. Btw (and as I am sure this has been discussed, sorry for not finding the answer although I tried): did you use Qt and if you did 1) will you make more games for Symbian as well 2) do you think Qt actually makes a big difference for developers?

I find it more reasonable that someone would actually be that stupid, then a leak on Secret Exit's servers or Ovi servers...

I can't give a reliable opinion on the usefulness of Qt since I'm not an engineer, but as far as my layman understanding goes, it's a UI toolkit and as such pretty irrelevant for games that tend to have their own UIs - you would just use Qt to set up a canvas for drawing with OpenGL ES. Zen Bound doesn't use Qt.

If Qt provides a layer of abstraction for realtime user input (multi-touch events, tilt sensors etc.), and abstracts the system audio and provides a mixer for streaming buffers, abstracts interrupts events and elegantly handles system graphics overlays then it probably would reduce headaches for cross-platform game development. If it doesn't, then porting games to Symbian will be as painful as always. As said, personally I haven't researched it and my opinion is worth a peanut :)

We currently have no plans regarding Symbian devices. That may change, of course.

Re: Secret Exit to release games for N900

thanks. i would think symbian now with its multitouch support, graphics acceleration etc. would be a much more intresesting a platform than maemo/meego given the much bigger volumes with still few high quality games. so hopefully you will change those plans! :)

Re: Secret Exit to release games for N900

Is there a way to purchase this without giving out my phone number to Nokia? I'll gladly pay via Paypal or Visa to get a few titles in there, including this.

Nokia has annoyed me already with the SMS blunder, I'll hold out best I can to protect my privacy.

ETA: Don't hurry with the answer, apparently my card is the wrong type of Visa or something. Really, people, what exactly is wrong with Paypal?

I wouldn't really go for this sort of game but thought I'd buy it to support the developers in the hope that we'll get more games and apps on the N900.

There are many factors that influence any company's decision to support a platform or not. Cost of porting due to fragmentation is a significant factor in that, and the actual volume of paying customers is another. Often the number of devices is quoted as the market size, which is of course not the way to do it.

You can say Maemo Store doesn't suffer from fragmentation, and porting was quite straightforward as well :)

As far as I know, the answers to these questions are yes.
However, I'm quite new to the world of Qt so you would need an expert's opinion about exactly how.

Well, I don't really know what I'm taking about since I don't have it yet, but I'm sure it's optified, in which care it cries for space in the 2G partition. How much there?

Finally the program installed after I removed almost all apps. The odd thing is that there is plenty of free space on my phone before removing them, far more than Zen Bound's file size of 47mb.

I watched the rootfs space in Conky while the Ovi Store download was in progress, and the first two times that I attempted the install all 81mb of rootfs was filled, then the phone threw a warning that I was out of space.

That is exactly what Qt (with QtMobility) does :) QtMobility is fairly fresh, mind you, but on projects that are not already deep in the implementation phase, I would consider giving it a thorough look :)

EDIT: spelling
