Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

I have the same problem, i can't download maps of geocaches.
I tried an other geocaching software: gpxview and have the same problem ever.

I'm soory, I can't help you. I'm searching for solving this disfunction too.

Nobody can help us or has an idea?

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

The geocaching website has changed. I'm already working on fixing the problem.

webhamster 2010-11-12 08:36

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

Please get the update through the build-in update feature (see main menu). However, there may be issues:
- Caches seem to be offset by a random value each time you download the map. I suspect this is a deliberately introduced error by geocaching.com. If you download the cache details, the coordinate should be fine again.
- It currently doesn't show whether you've found a geocache or not.

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

thought i have to flash because reinstalling agtl, python components, cleanup temp data...nothing helped.

thank you very much for the fast response/fix webhamster :)
i prefer AGTL for geocaching. The new offset display problem is very strange...hopefully groundspeak will step back.

i had a similar problem (downloading cachedata) with gpxview/geotoad on N900. i fixed the problem by replacing N900 original geotoad folders (v 3.12.1-1, ruby scripts) with the folders from latest geotoad source (v 3.13.0).

regards, zement

Great Job! It works again after installing the update.
Thank you very much.

Hey webhamster.

Just want to express my thanks and respect for Your work. I started few weeks ago with geocaching and GPXview (which is also quite nice, especially working offline with OC), but then came across AGTL and really really liked it.
So, I was concerned about this strange behaviour, but after reinstalling and cleaning up tmp, expected such a kind of web site change.

Thank You very much for fast reaction and easy solution.
Keep on

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

There is a second update online now (again, use the build-in update function in the AGTL main menu) which fixes the two outstanding issues.

Thanks for the update and a very nice piece of software! Seems that when downloading details for a cache I do get hints but no logs at all.

I concur with both statements. Running 0.7.0.2 I get no log entries anymore.

Hi, my AGTL cant also download logs and sometimes even details.
Daniel made the best geocaching tool I've seen, please do'nt let it die.

Thanks for all you do.

Do you have plans on letting it die? I don't :-) Those fixes take time and I don't have much at the moment.

There's another update, check the build-in update function.
This update should fix the logs issue.

If you can't download a geocache, please report it here - with the geocache ID (GCxxxx), the coordinates and a detailed description of the problem or the behaviour of agtl. And be sure to have the latest update installed (if it shows "Website parser version 7" in the about window, you're okay).

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

thank you very much for the fast support of AGTL!
download of logs works again. I noticed a bug when downloading all details of own cache (error: list index out of range). initial download of own cache worked like a charm but updating does not.
i can live with that behaviour. anyway, great application for my hobby :)

My apologies for my wrong words. You guess, how happy am I for AGTL and your work. Thank you very much.
Works great again !!

Please tell me if you have a working gps fix in a different application at the same time. Only accurate gps fixes count (i.e. not cell tower based approximate location).

Okay, then please follow the debugging instructions I gave earlier in this thread (starting agtl from the command line) so I can get a debugging output.

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

Hey,

just a quick update, I'm very busy at the moment, but will update AGTL in the next weeks. After that update, I'm planning to integrate the new http://www.opencaching.com. I really like this new site, so I would be glad to meet you geocachers there!

webhamster 2011-01-09 14:38

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

There's another quick update online now, which fixes a small bug with downloading the logs. However, I'm preparing a larger update right now, which includes a faster map drawing and a completely rewritten calculation handling. This enables adding calc strings manually, among other features.

webhamster 2011-01-09 15:19

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

And here it is, Version 0.8.0.0.

Changes (as mentioned above):
- Fix downloading bug after November 2010 website change (This was already fixed by an in-application update)
- Rewritten coordinate handling
- Support editing and adding of coordinate calculation strings
- Faster map display

webhamster 2011-01-09 20:07

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

Oh, and please vote here if the application works for you, so that the application can benefit the extras users, too.

Edit: Updated Link to Version 0.8.0.1

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

Is it possible to mute the espeak voice?
I cant find it anywhere within AGTL.
An option to disable the voice guidance would be nice.

Besides that I'm happy with the app.
Thanks for keeping it going :)

webhamster 2011-01-10 08:51

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

Thanks for this bug report, datjomp, there was a bug in the settings saving routine. Therefore, here comes version 0.8.0.1:

- Fix settings saving
- Fix crash when trying to start a 2nd download
- Fix error message when trying online update without updates available

However, the extras-assistant seems to be down. I'll upload the new version ASAP.

Edit: Updated version is in the repository. Please vote if it works for you.

Re: [Announce] Advanced Geocaching Tool

hello - i updated from last v0.7 to v0.8.0.1 and am very proud of continued development of my favourite gc application :)

i noticed that the history of the last version which says:
Quote:

- Fix settings saving
- Fix crash when trying to start a 2nd download
- Fix error message when trying online update without updates available
i can´t confirm the bugfix
Quote:

- Fix settings saving
cause if i want to change for instance the parameter "map_follow_position": true; via settings menu this does not work. if i change settings with vi manually then the changed settings become active but thats not the preferred way.

things i tried to make it work had no success:
- chmod 666 ~/.agtl/config
- rm ~/.agtl/config, start agtl with default configfile and tried to save
- run agtl as root

i know -support of agtl is temporary stopped, i just wanted to report my experience with v0.8
can anyone confirm the reported behaviour?

greets - zement

This seems to be a different bug. However, I'm sure I'll find the time to fix this bug in the next week. In the meantime, we'll wait for more users to report their bugs :-)

Please check out the latest version, 0.8.0.3! It should fix a couple of bugs and introduces a new feature: A default text for fieldnotes.

Hi,

finally got a chance to deeply test AGTL for the first time during today's geocaching trip and haven't seen any bugs. It's really great application! I've placed my vote, since this definitely should be in extras.
Thanks for your work.

Thank you for further support of the great application! i noticed better parsing for own cachelistings v0.8.0.4 (index out of bounds error)

Dankeschön

Yes, I had to publish version 0.8.0.4 because geocaching.com changed the website again. Users of extras (not extras devel) who are still at 0.8.0.3 can use the online update feature (in the about menu).

i have to report parsing problems again. when dowloading details of a multicache only the startcoordinates are visible - not the stages (v0.8.0.4). can anyone confirm this?

offtopic: i also wanted to vote but i could not (perhaps missing garage account?)
