Could the next version get 'headphone daemon' working with it as well.. i hate it when my headphones unplug in quiter public areas and you get started at :D ..

part that i love the shuffling algos..

I find new songs I dont know of :D.. but kinda sputters and gets a lil slow on my 14 gig library of music.. but then so does the built in media player.

In that case I don't know why it wouldn't find them. You could try running /usr/local/instinctiv/bin/instinctiv.launch from X Terminal and see whether there's any relevant error message posted. A reinstall is also an option, but I suspect you'd also need to delete the existing config/database and I don't know where that's kept (I couldn't find it when I had a quick look). There's some stuff in /home/user/Instinctiv but the database doesn't appear to be in there.

Hello all,

I am Mihail, from Instinctiv. Thank you very much for your help with fixing the remaining issues with the player.

We uploaded the 0.3.14 version to the Ovi Store. You can download it from there. We are continuing improving the player, so we will send you an update in a couple of days.

About the music files: the player automatically scans the memory cards, so there is no matter where you put your songs.

Thanks to all of you again for your help.

Best Regards,
Mihail

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

I installed Instinctiv last night and opened it once to play with it for a minute or two. About 2 hours later, right before I went to bed, I noticed that my battery level had dropped significantly since the install. I opened up Conky and saw that the hildon-thumbnail process was using a constant 15-20% CPU. I figured it was doing background processing of thumbnails for Instinctiv (for 2 hrs?) so I let it go while I charged overnight. This morning I woke up to a fully charged phone, but Conky was still showing the hildon-thumbnail process using 15-20% CPU. I rebooted, and it was still doing it. I un-installed Instinctiv and hildon-thumbnail stopped showing up as a top process in Conky. Any ideas?

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Hi,
I have installed 0.3.14, seems promising. I'm mostly using my N900 in the car with a custom made holder, connected to the car stereo, so maybe my opinions also help:
- An effective landscape mode is important. I tried Ctrl+Shift+R; returns to portrait when "... come back later" error appears.
- Finds and downloads Albumart with success mostly, but it is not using downloaded image for the rest of the album, only for that song. I have around 5000 songs in memory, which are ripped from my cds, so I have very well organized archive based on full albums. It's unlogical if it downloads the same image for every song.
- The UI font size (song name, artist, album...) is ideal for normal use, but it would be nice to have bigger fonts option to use in car.
- I mainly use default mediaplayer and love it. Good search, touchscreen friendly. I can choose library and internet radio very easily in same software. So maybe not video but internet radio implementation would be nice. I prefer to use just one software, not different for every need.

I still couldn't get instinctive shuffle or play songs similar to... working, but the idea is promising; thanks.

@bobalyafeai09

This worked for me:
Close application
sudo gainroot
apt-get remove libavcodec52.
Try opening it again.

This is at your own risk, it worked for me but could possibly blow your car up or something.

Is it possible to configure which folders it looks in? I might want to stop Instinctiv from displaying podcasts, for example. Does it use tracker?

Or edit /usr/local/instinctiv/bin/instinctiv.launch and add the following line:
Code:

export LD_PRELOAD=libavcodec.so.52.68.2:libavdevice.so.52.2.0:libavformat.so.52.63.0:libavutil.so.50.15.3:libtag.so.1.8.0:libtag_c.so.0.0.0
That's all one line, and it needs to go between the LD_LIBRARY_PATH line and the "/opt/instinctiv/instinctiv" line.

I'm generally loving this app... but wondered how long other's are waiting for the "Analysing... please come back later" message to stop...?

Hi Peter!

Very impressive app. Thanks a lot to the develop team.

I just found sth strange, if the name of artist is in chinese, then you can't find any songs in artist catalogy, although the songs exists in "all songs"

hope it will be fixed soon!

Thanks again!

Hi Rob1n,

Thank you for the help about the issue with the codecs. We will update the script in the next version to use LD_PRELOAD.

I'd suggest building it with the correct rpath instead (currently your build system is using "-rpath /usr/lib"). Using LD_PRELOAD is a hack that shouldn't be necessary.

Good app but too buggy how did this even end up in Ovi store?

Thanks developer but this app really is too raw, I suggest you to remove it from Ovi store put it in extras-devel and polish it unitl it becomes stable and then submit to Nokia again. You can even do two things at a time, release a free version then add new features and release non free version

No no resume for last position...that is annoying. Unless you're watching a video or something. Why resume when you can touch and forward where ever you want? I don't want to press and play a song only to realize i have to press again for every song in order to restart from the beginning...do you realize how annoying that is?

Enna was actually the reason why Instinctive was crashing back to desktop when I selected a track. Having both installed maus cause conflicts with Pulseaudio or something.

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Great Application!

Here are the two things I wish far..

1. Play songs when the phone is in silent mode - very important if you listen to Music in Office... :)

2. I am selecting a song and it starts playing. Now I go back to, let's say, list of Albums. That menu is always shown from top alphabetically, it doesn't remember the last position of browsing. If I select an album named 'Iruvar', play a song, go back to browsing other albums, I am starting from Album names starting with 'A'. Would be great to get this fixed as I have close to 200 albums.

A possible bug?

Instinctiv is currently portrait mode only. When I touch the top left corner, I can see other apps running and then may be go to desktop. But the status bar, which shows the time, cell phone signal strength etc, doesn't respond at all. If I want to put the phone in silent mode, I can't do it straightaway.

We've spent a lot of time making sure unicode was thoroughly supported. We probably have an issue between our c layer and maemo's QT layer. Stay tuned for a fix :)

Yuck :( Typically, when the initial scan and download processes settle down playback consumes significantly less power than the default player. Can you give us some details on the type of internet connection your phone has?

Yea but it'll be nice to have the option to select your own art. I remember there is a program that does that. It lets you search for the cover art and display multiple arts and you can select the one you like and apply.

Some of my songs does not have info in the properties...so i had to type it in for the program to recognize it and begin fetching the art.

Firstly, many thanks for a great application for the N900. It is very usable (even at this early development point) and it is gorgeous.

Before you get to adding any features, I really hope you can sort the scrolling. I myself no nothing about coding but I am looking forward to the jerky scrolling issue disappearing. I have about 1200 songs on my N900 and scrolling for artists and songs is jerky and is unusable for albums.

Another idea I have that hasn't been mentioned here is to change the now-playing link at the bottom from an arrow to the album art of the current song perhaps?

Again, many thanks!
