so the orientation of the nokia logo at the top of the device would suggest that it is primarily used in portrait mode?

Now if only they hired you back, gave you a payraise, and put you in charge of someone to make sure Nokia doesn't screw up the N9. =P

I could live with that.

Can someone start a campaign? I promise to also stamp out chiclet keyboards.

:D

Bleh. I hope Nokia is planning to make the N9 hinge adjustable. While the option to tilt can be a great benefit, a forced tilt is simply a waste of engineering time, money, and, most importantly, interior space.

I'm glad they went with the N97 type sliding mechanism. I always said my perfect phone have been the N900 with the N97's sliding keyboard hinge.

I'm curious, why do you or other people like a forced tilt screen? I understand a tilted screen is great for table-top use, but a device this size is going to be held in the hands far more and with the forced tilt, either the screen will be at a terrible angle or your wrists will be.

I'm pretty sure it will be in different colors...remember the N8 first showed up in Green lol

exactly.
and the N9 logo when the keyboard is slided out is to remind you to use it then primarily in landscape mode.

;)

The mechanism used on N97, N97 mini is super sturdy and proven to work for long time. I like the idea of just flipping the keyboard out and not to have anymore of moving parts.

I liked it alot on the N97 mini i was using for a month. Hard to say yet how will it do on a heavier and bigger device. For now it's positive thing to me but we will see.

I've typed on my wife's N97 and the keypad feels absolutely amazing but about the tilt, it eliminates the need for a stand. Typing at that angle is great. There's also this great 'snap' sound when you open it up. You wouldn't know the feeling unless you've played with an N97. An adjustable hinge would make the phone far too thick as well.

Okay, thats everything nice... this color discussion is great. Now please back to the important topics.
Could someone please figure out where we could put in our micro-sd cards?

if it's got enough mass storage and working usb host I wouldn't mind if it's missing a microsd card slot ...

PS : oops looks like it's got one microsd slot from zehjotkah post below ;) ...

Plus it literally just feels good to open and close it. Never bought N97, but I still stop and play with the damn hinge mechanism like a child, when I see N97 on display in electronics stores.

That kind of oldskool mechanical engineering is so rare these days.

exactly at this photo, under the sticker "HW0724" from outside.
the back cover is closed by screws so no under the cover.

Visually disecting the internals of a cellphone is hard to do based on pictures...Also along that line of thinking where does the SIM card go? SIM card & MicroSD slots are usually in close proximity on Nokia phones.

Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak

Too bad it looks as thick as the brick N900. I was hoping Nokia can come up with something slimmer and lighter premium design. But this is looking way too thick. If they can slim this down by just 2mm would be awesome! Oh also applications!!

Does the SIM card go to the left of that?

SIM card goes under the left metallic thing (with the six bigger holes) directly left of the microSD.
both are changeable without having to open the cover (which is fixed by screws as I said already).

Ah, okay. And the SIM card, too, it seems.

Hmm... perhaps a source for a jaring and squeaking device. :(
My N95 had this on the left side where the cover for the micro-SD card was. The sound was ugly. :(

Did someone change the bug report? I swear i saw some model names starting with RM....

Didn't notice any connectors for it on the inside, but there is something there on the outside at least. Look at this picture:
http://www.engadget.com/photos/nokia...china/#3277343

There is definitely a hatch there :)

EDIT: no, sorry that is the sim card hatch I think. At least it it opens right where the sim card goes it seems. There is something under the persons finger on the right/bottom end. Dunno what that is though.

Re: Pictures: Nokia N9 Real leak

The fact that it took soo long for a legit N9 leak I was totally freaking out on Nokia. Without leaks it seemed as if they had just been twiddling thier thumbs this whole year waiting till NokiaWorld to have some lame excuse as to why they won't be releasing a MeeGo handset in 2010. I'm so glad to see that an amazing effort has been made to bring us a product truly worthy top of the line device to compete with the iPhone4's, Galaxy S's, & Droid's of the smartphone world.

Any of three very slim possibilities that would lead to a insta-purchase for me in order of preference:
* A Z6** CPU
*1024*600 res
*Optical trackpad

simon: I’m comparing the board with the layout of an N900
simon: To the left, I imagine RAM and flash storage.
Then the SIM slot
and possibly the GPU that has the Nokia sticker on it
CPU is below the camera module
Mike: did the n900 have the bt mouse feature like N8?
simon: and I suppose the GSM/GPS/WiFi module has the HW0724 sticker on it
Not directly available, but HID support for BT mice and keyboards works
The conversation fell apart at this point as it was encroaching on lunch time (I don’t miss meals, even for the N9) but that’s what the comment section below is for. Continue the conversation below or follow us on Twitter @maemofanatics, @EverythingBlaxx, @SimonLR and @mikemacias

It's a slide in MicroSD slot and SIM. If you look closely at the bottom there is a slot for each one of those area.
