If this is so then it should be marked as requirement. At the moment it seems my phone screems that it does not want NitDroid on it. Markus |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
rootsh was available for update now so I should be on 1.8
Application Manager now shows the NITDroid as an update but tells me: To update your device to this version of the operating system you must use Nokia PC Suite on your PC. Connect the device to your PC via USB cable and launch the applicatoin. (Create Backup button) Is this how it should be? Markus |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression

Got a message that installation was ok and that I can reboot with keyboard open to boot into NITdroid.
Is this how it will be. Open keyboard NITdroid, closed keyboard maemo? Markus |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
I am really looking forward to use Droid on my N900 and today i saw a 4gb class 4 microSD hc hanging around in the store. I thought thats the sign to finally install NITDroid.
Well, what i did so far: Inserted the microSD and followed this instructions. It hung up while formating the sd with ext3. So i checked out the "Solution to the installer problem with formatting ext3" found here. I removed the first autoinstaller and then installed the ext3 fixed one. Starting it with "nitdroid-installer" again. it started downlading the NITDroid-N900-the-flying-world.tbz2 file but it never finished and moved on to the next file. I have good wireless connection. Conky showed download of data. But it didnt start to download the other files. So i restarted the device and tried the whole process again. This time it went through formatting fine. Then it downloaded the other files and installed NITDroid. I was told to reboot and did so, but no bootmenu showed up. When i power the device it just boots maemo automatically, like if i had never installed nitdroid. Does anyone have had a similar experience and maybe an idea how to solve it? Should i format my sd card manually and retry the installation process? How to check in maemo if NITDroid has been installed correctly? Thanks guys. I really hope i will get NITDroid running! |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
Ever since I installed the kernel-power option and choose the power kernel on the multiboot screen, my batterygraph states it is constantly running around 50%...
So the juice in my battery is draining rapidly... When I choose the normal maemo boot (option 1) the drainage stops but then i can't overclock... Am I the only one or did I do something wrong? |

download the advanced task killer if you want to "close" apps. otherwise the OS just puts them into sleep mode which some say is fine |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
Yeah.....
i have found how to do it! The slide button wich you use to open screen and close screen does that ..(the one between to riht speaker and headset jack plugin |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
I see alot of questions here that I'm not going to take time to answer like how to open menu, etc. Just going to say if you take the time to read the nitdroid wiki/faq all your questions will be answered.

Your pessimism is wrong. I didn't find it slightly dangerous. It didn't work for me at first, but it didn't hurt anything. I had to go read a book for awhile. I personally had to reflash first to get it to work. To me, that's no big deal. Before I reflashed, I tried without reflashing about five times, each time waiting a long time, till my device said "bailing out". After it bailed out I stopped waiting, of course. |

The battery usage is flaky at this point. I usually have charge my battery with an external charger. With this, I had to charge with the N900 itself until it went green. Then when I booted Nitdroid all was well. So I could MOSTLY till charge with the external charger -- it only seemed to care if it was topped up with the N900 itself. Edit: Oh, you must be saying that Nitdroid shows half your battery is used up. That is not saying that Nitdroid is consuming half your power, as you seemed to be stating. As I said, it's flaky. |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
I installed, took ages to boot from a Class 6 card and was slow when finally loaded so I uninstalled.
Awesome job but I'm too impatient it seems? ;o) |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
Well, I just had to install it (because I can :D ). I have a 2GB, three year old Sandisk sd card, and had to format it with 1MB for FAT to get the installer going.
It works like a charm. Surprisingly smooth and fast. Some hickups every now and then and drains battery like a 1kW oven, but all in all, this is great. I guess the hard parts, telephony and power management is going to take some time?? One has to wonder. If Android was available from Nokia on the N900 (downloadable in addition to Maemo and soon to come MeeGo), what would the sales number of this device be? |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
ok got it up and running now. dualboot works nicely and there is no need to start the phone with keyboard open, even though the installer says so.
The overall speed is good, main menu is superfast, but if i open an application and therefore data is read from the memory card, its slows down extremely:mad:. There are also error messages popping up which say that application xyz doesnt react. If i click em away a couple of times, the application will run. So i assume its due to slow memory card speed. I am using a class 4 card. Could responsiveness and app loading as well as booting speed be (significantly) inceased by using a class 6 or even class 10 card? What sd cards do you use and how is your speed experience? We could also compare boot up time for example and find out which memory card would be best to use with NITDroid. |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
To help preserve battery, dont use Live Wallpapers. I have been using NITDroid for a while and when I chose the default wallpaper, I was able to play Asphalt 5 for over an hour without charging the N900 and the battery went down to half. It was amazing!

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
Do the partitioning and formatting step from the nitdroid manual install instructions, then run the installer again. That is how I got it going after getting stuck on ext3 step.

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
I made a disparraging comment about Nitdroid earlier in this thread, but as of now I am finding it pretty seductive. I bought a cheap mind-mapping program ($2) and found other goodies. I like a lot of Maemo stuff but am starting to consider switching almost permanently. My battery life seems ok. When I can make phone calls I will really be tempted.

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
After setup, login back to Maemo, cant be overclocking
it said to reinstall kernel power flasher, i tried, but non-help.. |
