Has this been disabled and if so how do I enable it?
Thanks in advance! :)

Mass storage mode doesnt work on gingerbread yet but e-yes mentioned that he fixed it and we ll have it in the next release.

excuse me but i am too lazy so i cant read per posts . can some one tell me which files should i remove from previous installed nitdroid before installing Gingerbread.

You d better remove all the files from old installation. Enter to /and directory, after you mounted the nitdroid partition in it, and run "rm rf *" without ". Then extract the gingerbread rootfs and install again the kernel. Be careful to cd in the right directory otherwise you will delete your data.

Re: [RELEASE] Android Gingerbread 2.3.1 (Experimental)

rm -rf /and/*
to delete all contents of and directory after mounting required drive in and directory.
To mount drive
mount /dev/mmcblk0p5 /and
change mmcblk0p5 to the drive of your choice.

Re: [RELEASE] Android Gingerbread 2.3.1 (Experimental)

Here is a quick fix for the Android Market after following the instructions on the front page of this thread and you get the error when running the market app after rebooting after the fix and so you don't have to constantly reboot and hope for best.
Go to settings and then click on accounts&sync settings and now un tick background data and now go back to the home screen and run the Android Market application again and it will tell you that it needs this and enable it via the button to the left.
Now you may get a couple of server errors but keep trying and it will work ;)

LMAO me too - don't mount to /home else you are fubar. Managed to flash rootfs and get everything backed up before running a reflash with both fiasco and eMMC. slap me thrice, paint me purple and call me a noob!

yes its definately faster. It may be only me but I feel the battery drain to be lesser in Gingerbread. and if you install it in 3gb emmc partition (partitioning tutorial of nitdroid wiki) then it won't mount MyDocs in gingerbread, although there is a solution at nitdroid forum, I still couldn't manage to mount it. I got something like sdcard needs to be formatted message. and many app(about 3 apps such as ucweb, homescreen 3D, advanced task killer among 10 I have installed) doesn't load in full screen

Why no phone calls...
1: It ain't simple. The N900's chipset is closed source.
There are many ideas around. The main reason its not working right now is (ofono) voice. There is a problem getting voice moving.

You can make calls and receive. There is no voice.
You can receive text messages, but not send.

Re: [RELEASE] Android Gingerbread 2.3.1 (Experimental)

thanks, good work --- keep going
from my opinion N900 is one of the most powerful and open platform, so I don't know why there is no more support from nokia for the highest bugs till now for example the incoming call activate the touch screen and unlocked even while the mobile still in its case or pocket (so you will answer or reject) by mistake and android OS solve that kind of problem by sweeping a button on the screen.
I hope that some one can fix that problem

Re: [RELEASE] Android Gingerbread 2.3.1 (Experimental)

I have successfully downloaded gingerbread and all the updates, but I am still having a problem with wifi. It says "obtaining IP address" then fails. I have a wep connection in "B" ao the kids can use their nintendo DS with the network. Even when I use an outside Wifi performance is "spotty" (loses connection). I've searched maemo.org all day. People wirh similar problems say the solution was to reinstall, but everything works as per the instructions I just cant connect to wifi.

Any help is appreciated...Thanks for all the hard work!

Thanks for the reply...Sorry for the newbie questions...

I though of the static IP address, but I couldn't figure out where to access the settings... and since we are on the where/how question how do I access root "in android" to do updates 4 and 5?

Thanks for responding!

I' getting no such file or directory. Updates 4 and 5 are in the MyDocs directory. My guess is the destination folder may be on my memory card, i am not too familiar with linux/maemo (but i'm willing to learn).

I used the 1st post of "can you smell it...Gingerbread" (EMMC version) and followed the directions exactly. I am very pleased with what i am able to do so far. You knowledgeable Maemo/linux guys make the n900 the best phone on the market.

I followed this procedure from the thread i talked about earlier.

Applying Updates:
Be sure that your update.tar.bz2 is in MyDocs, then do the following:

Code:
root
cd /home/user/MyDocs
bzip2 -d nameofpackage.tar.bz2
cd /
mount /home /and
cd /and
tar xvf /home/user/MyDocs/nameofpackage.tar

update 1,2, and superuser seems to have worked fine ( there is a superuser icon in android apps on my phone). updates 4 and 5 are in the same directory I had 1, 2, and superuser.

EDIT: If the sound is working, are voicecalls feasible? This is my primary phone and have limited time to play with android unless I can use it on a permanent basis. Great work OP, thanks!
================================================

Looks like the phone is almost functional with android except for making phone calls. Looking forward to that ....

Re: [RELEASE] Android Gingerbread 2.3.1 (Experimental)

Thanks for the help (everybody), fixed my Keyboard and what ever else update 5 did, with this:

Files were already downloaded to MyDocs
Then opened up X-Term

* Please note I DO NOT know how to code in Linux/Maemo!! *
* I just pieced this together from searching through Gingerbread threads *

1. sudo gainroot (I noticed some people just use ROOT, I'm embarrased to say I don't know which is better to use)
2. mount /home /and
3. cd /home/user/MyDocs
4. mv /home/user/MyDocs/LatinIME.apk /and/system/app
5. mv /home/user/MyDocs/gps.nokia.so /and/system/lib/hw/

then shut down x term.

My keyboard was fixed (bigger/usable) and since I don't have a network connection I'm not sure if the GPS thing works or not, so I'm guessing I did something right!

Hopefully this helps others like me!!:D
