Instead of "CTRL+ backspace" I use most of the time the Camera focus short press to show Dashboard (thanks to Shortcutd) and after the workaround, it is working again.

I don't know if it is just my perception, but I find my transitions faster. I've been using Plastic Dark Black theme custom transitions for a while and they seem faster/smoother for me.

I also have this problem (ctrl+backspace, cam focusbutton not showing dashboard anymore) but Jaffas solution doesn't helped me;(
Do I have to reboot to get it working again?

I have also noticed that pressing chars or numbers, when on a desktop doesn't let me search for a contact anymore!

Edit: Ok, a reboot is necessary to bring this functionality back again!

Re: [Council] Maemo 5 gets community OS updates

The back-ported Modest package does NOT send attachments properly, nor does it register CTRL+CR as "Send" e-mail. Whether this is can be set outside of the source (a gconf variable) is something else.

I had this same issue with the 3.x tree of Modest over 3 months ago. I think it needs to be pulled until the attachment issue is sorted.

Could you raise a bug please, with some very specific details? What kind of file type? How did you check whether it was sent? What do you mean by "properly"?

I saw something weird with an attachment the other day: sending an HTML file from Conboy didn't show an attachment in Outlook 2010 having gone through an Exchange server. However it did show up in Gmail's copy of the message it kept after sending it through Gmail's SMTP server.

nor does it register CTRL+CR as "Send" e-mail.
Indeed. Nor the button at the bottom of the compose window to send it. I wonder if these changes were made on branches of the mainline which were never folded back?

If you're familiar with the Modest source, perhaps you'd be able to help track down the problems? :-)

Thanks,

Andrew

I seem to have an issue with the browser as since the update when whether I use a shortcut from my desktop I also have the bookmarks open so I have two browers open at the same time. One showing the shortcut page the other the list of bookmarks.

Has anybodyelse had this issue?

a very sensible answer, but just so i can decide whether it may be worth testing and risking reflashes, perhaps you could humour me with a few bullet points? ;)

Installing now.
I will put it thru it's paces! I am a vicious user of N900 - Anything that can ruin this, I will find it! :D

Edit: Why on earth is it asking me to connect to Nokia PC Suite!!?? I don't have, nor do I want to use it. Can this be done without this?

i.e: use apt-get upgrade/update rather than HAM?!

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I don't recall if this is exactly like something I've run across a few times in my N900 use, but I've often noticed that certain errors that apt-get throws are actually resolvable by a simple reboot. Not sure if this is the case here right now, though.

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

I am definitely seeing an improvement in modest email. Freezing and crashing problems from the 1.3 release have gone away. I think that these were affecting the whole system--causing some general sluggishness and freezing things briefly when a new email came in. Responsiveness is back to the right-after-flash levels, even though no flash was involved in this upgrade. So I am guessing some memory leaks or runaway processes may have been cleared up in modest.

I am only about 36 hours into running with this upgrade (with no reboot) and I have not seen any performance or email issues at all. I'll keep looking for problems for the next few days, but kudos to the SSU team!

I just used apt-get upgrade. working fine, not asking for Suite.

Do you need Nokia PC Suite to install this? This is not good.

Sounds like the thing it says when normal SSUs don't have enough rootfs space to unpack themselves.

How much rootfs space do you have?

here's a request though:

MohammadAG or other great developers out there:

Can somehow merge this latest hildon-desktop to incorporate desature instead of blur? Got so used to being able to see the back conversations and the things at the back, now that it's blurred out, kinda irks me a little bit... hehehehehe.. pretty pleaseeeee

1. you don't have enough free space in rootfs

2. you have conflicting packages (quake 3 maybe?)

Not everyone likes only getting desaturation. Please don't just think about your preferences when suggestion features for something that will be system-wide and is attached to packages useful for almost all users. (Whenever I try to suggest a feature request, I also attempt to express how it should be made a user-changeable settings option.)

What would be nice is if someone made Hildon Desktop not disable desaturation even if you disabled blurring. Then you could change what you wanted in the transitions.ini file, or with whatever app edited transitions.ini for you, including completely disabling blur but keeping desaturation. (As is, you could probably lower blur to almost nothing, without completely disabling it, allowing a slightly blurred-but-not-horribly-so effect.)

I have 49.3MB left.
How much do I generally need?
I have heard that if I turn off extra's devel/testing repos that free's up about 10MB.
I can shift my kernels (multiboot) to MyDocs for now :) (just leave omap)

Mentalist Traceur 2011-01-31 06:58

Re: The in-development Maemo 5 Community SSU

Hmmm, no that's probably not it then. I have like... 16-ish MB free? I think. It went under 19 recently. So I have way less than you and it updated fine for me.

So it's probably something else, and I am of little use in that regard.

erm... well, didn't mean to sound selfish or anything but I thought like he could just provide a patch or something for JUST those who are interested right? I mean, if those who don't like it can choose not to download the patch? Also probably maybe provide it as an option like in the 'display' category in settings?

that's all. I like how you suggested a way to toggle blur to almost nothing meaning that I can adjust it to how i like it... whether it be saturation or blur

is there a changelog for these updates?

i will say modest seems to be flying relative to how fast it normally runs!

does this mean we will see proper imap-idle one of these days?

I realised after installing this update from the CSSU, and after fixing a few things i.e. FAM, uninstalling desaturize desktop (SOB SOB SOB), and having needed to reinstall certain things that were automatically removed by autoremover (glad that it could resolve), suddenly, I realised there were many apps that were 'kept back' and not upgraded...

how to work around this or is it not important?

Most of that's the qtmobility stuff - doing an apt-get install on one of those will probably bring all of them in. The new libsdl-mixer1.2 has been floating around for a long time - I've left it uninstalled for now, as I'm not happy that it's actually a working new version.

ok... it has been installed for a while now, needed to just fix a few things i.e. FAM, and the autoremover... no desktop shortcut problems, shortcutkey problems, browser issues that were brought up.

everything is now A-OK
