Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Some tests with Final Fantasy 7

All are overclocked at 900 MHZ

psx4m seems to run slower than the previous version. This is with frameskip 8 and multicycle 2 (same settings as previous version). As far as I know it plays all parts of the game, intro, other cinematics and the screen blur before a battle starts, even though its slow at doing it. Sound isnt really useable as the speed is too slow.

psx4m-gles (HWA Gpu turned on) wont run Final Fantasy 7 at all. It gets to the copyright screen then the screen goes black and freezes, have to use the power button to close the program. Tried alsorts of settings but results are the same.

PCSX-ReArmed runs Final Fantasy 7 alot better than psx4m, still isnt full speed but its close. I used PAL settings for the frameskip and seems to run mostly fine, some slow downs and speed ups with the game. Sound is abit choppy even if the threaded sound option is ticked but is useable. One thing this one doesnt do though is the cinematic intro or the screen blur before a battle begins. Also where the glove hand cursor is ment to be in a battle is a gfx glitch.

psx4m-gles - http://paste.org.ru/?a4dgz6

PCSX-ReArmed - http://paste.org.ru/?x17yyy

I will add the config file later on as I need sleep and need to install winzip or something, damn upload restrictions.

Keep up the good work :)

Edit 1 - Dont know if its been mentioned but cpu remains at 100% even though the emulator has been closed. Conky says its psx4m-gles.

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Bigmac_hk: no need in config files, psx4m-gles have this bug with cpu load (when you close it using ctrl+backspace, X; not quit key)
very strange, according to log psx4m-gles should work as psx4m; pcsx-rearmed log doesn't contain errors (all movies in pcsx shouldn't work (they use incompatible 24bpp mode) so it's "normal" bug)

i have to download ff7 to test it with gles version, i'll post results latter ;-)

I have problems running Metal Gear Solid
http://paste.org.ru/?w724uu
it doesn't run at all on psx4m, and on psx4m-rearmed (provided log) it only loads a blank screen. There's really no rom loading screen, just a blank maemo screen, i am force to ctrl-backspace to quit it. Also, I do not seem to have psx4m-gles installed...and not sure how.

I'm having same problem running metal gear to i'm getting past the title and menu screen as soon i start the game a black screen,i'm thinking is bug related with the cores or it just cant run but i didnt try it with psx4m core yet

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

@Bigmac_Hk

FF7 runs full speed without sound on pcsx (faster than full, actually).

Not so great with sound.

Go to xterm:

killall psx4-gles

after using the gles version if it crashes before the game starts.

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Tried Gran Turismo 2, works great on both psx4m and pcsx. But in psx4m-gles, it halts at "Started". The GL init never comes, and gl window never opens. But runs great otherwise :)

bona FEAR EFFECT 2 plays the movie just fine it's working well on pcsx :)

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

JSTAR: some games use 16bpp mode for movies, but psx allow 24bpp mode and 24bpp mode is used *ONLY* for movies as far i know ... pcsx doesn't show 24bpp mode

Thank you, it's appreciated. It used to be a favorite game many years ago, would bring back memories to replay it on my n900 :)

Why does it feel like im playing crash bandicoot in slowmotion while fps is 30+ ? Anyway great work, keep it up. Maybe someday full speed ?

bonapart 2011-01-28 20:48

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

shnigi: pal mode - 50 fps, ntsc - 60fps ... you have 30 ;-)

I know what pal and ntsc means but the rest i didnt understand ? Is there a fix to get games work faster or what settings should i use ? or did u mean full speed is 50/60fps

And second question. Is this only a question of optimization or is the phone hardware limited to run games 100% speed ?

ps1 emulator working100%+gamegripper would be epic.

bonapart 2011-01-28 21:05

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

1)i mean full speed is 50/60fps. all settings have different effect to different games, in most cases you should try pcsx, pcsx with enabled bios,psx4m(with hwa gpu if it work) with different cyclemult (2\3\4 is optimal in most cases)

2)question of optimization

Will there be a support for changing a cd? needed for multi ISOs games...

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

This emu is getting better and better :)
Now with pcsx bundled in I can finally play other Tekkens than just the first one. Bad thing is that Tekken 3 (I only have 1 and 3) works unstable. Randomly it stucks in the window which is shown before fight should start and there's no way to make it continue from there. Emulator responses to the quit-button and returns to the gui.
Sometimes I can play the game for hours with no stucks.
Log shows nothing unusual.

Only config that I have found that I can launch the game:
core: pcsx
no bios
sound disabled

Both psx4m and psx4m-gles segfaults rightaway when launching.

bonapart 2011-01-29 11:06

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

d-iivil: can you create backtrace of segfault? i yes i'll publish dbg enabled verison to do this
i'm not responsible on hangs of pcsx core (i just make maemo adaptation from pandora) so you should contact with Notaz (http://www.gp32x.com/board/index.php?/user/5419-notaz/) or just wait when it will be fixed

Wojtek PL 2011-01-29 12:03

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

bonapart you`re making a good job with this psx emulator. I hope it`ll be stable soon ;) and Will you preparing next update soon or something? because i still testing this program and i like it... But I can start only games with pcsx core with bios disabled, psx4m, psx4m-gles doesn`t start any games.

bonapart 2011-01-29 12:06

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Wojtek PL: i hope too
if something doesn't work create a log and send to me, it's very important to make more stable releases (instructions at first page or on my homepage opened from gui)
create a log for each settings (if they doesn't work):
  • psx4m core,cycle multiplier - 0, hwa gpu -off, frameskip -0
  • psx4m core,cycle multiplier - 0, hwa gpu - on, fsaa - off
  • pcsx core, frameskip - ntsc, bios - off
  • pcsx core, frameskip - ntsc, bios - on
all settings from advanced tab should be off, sound - on, all other settings doesn't matter

What`s mind ari64_reset? after start game

bonapart 2011-01-29 13:22

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Wojtek PL: it's normal, when this message appear emulator prepare dynamic recompiler to work ;-) ari64 is nickname of author of recompiler ( it's used in muphen64 port too )

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

one thing i've noticed, is the gles version of psx4m is very bad at video playback, whereas the non gl version plays video fine. any way of incorporating that video playback method into the gl version?

bonapart 2011-01-29 13:45

Re: [Announce] Sony Playstation 1 Emulators

Tedri Mark: it'll be very difficult to mixup gles and soft rendering, i'll write this to one of way to optimize list

Didn't provide much more info. Here's the gdb output of that binary:

Code:

Will try, but so far I've only found bioses that are 100 percent match in size with the one I'm using. And it works with Tekken 1. Tekken 2 also runs but with massive graphic errors.
