Thanks Kolos for the benchmark...:)

I Installed Vostok on MicoSD with 3 GB ext3 partition on 8 GB card... Speed of the OS is not bad, but the device is rebooting while running out of memory (cannot play 3d games - loading... for long while)... I checked my RAM sized (Settings -> Applications -> Storage use) - only total RAM I have is 180 MB (76MB is used and 105MB is free).. So if I overclock NITdroid will my also RAM increase?

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

sudarsan_avs, I think you have 180 MB available RAM for apps. Install AnTutu benchmark from Market and open Information tab, there you will see right amount of ram. I have right now 65.2 MB available from 236 MB.

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

About rebooting. I didn't have any, but I didn't play games. If you have swap partition on microSD, try to enable it in default.prop. Mount NITdroid partition in Maemo and go in /and where open default.prop with leafpad (or nano, or...). Then change value for persist.swap.swappiness= from 0 to 1. Also check if you have written right swap partition under persist.swap.dev=.

I have a question for one with more knowledge. Can I change persist.swap.dev=mmcblk1p3 value in persist.swap.dev=mmcblk0p3 to use swap on eMMC (which uses Maemo)? If I can, would be system any faster, cause I already have NITdroid on eMMC?

I need help trying to connect to the GPRS internet on N12 UMay, it doesn't connect, just shows a white 3G icon on the status bar, do I need to go into airplane mode and reboot as required in earlier versions?

You should use kernel-power-bootimg instead of multiboot-kernel-power, because it's deprecated.

Google hasnt released Honeycomb source code yet. Even after there is no point to run it on N900 cuz its optimized for big screens and dual core systems. Stick with 2.3 :) Most Android users still have 2.2 btw :p

For those who might be interested, I could run ubuntu as a chroot under nitroid, quite easily. I know it feels like pervert, but it was fun.
I followed the guide in http://blog.coralic.nl/2010/08/17/ub...axy-s-android/ with some minor changes.

This guide helped me to find how I can undervolt CPU. I edited voltage settings in oc-profile-500-750.conf and then renamed the file into power.conf.

This is nice. I have installed this app and also another app ( via this app) to overclock N900 . It is GUI based and so easy to use. I got 1661 score after I overcloked with just one touch which is cool. I will post the screen shots later.

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

The easiest way is to use FileBox. Go to boot/multiboot directory and delete vmlinuz-2.6.28.NIT.06 kernel. Then go to etc/multiboot.d and delete item file for same kernel (2.6.28.NIT.06). Finally go to lib/modules and delete folder 2.6.28.NIT.06.

If he has installed nitdroid-kernel with package manager, thats pretty messy and I wouldn't recommend it.

First you should search which kernels you have installed:
Code:

apt-cache search nitdroid-kernel
And then remove everything else except the one with the largest number like this:
Code:

apt-get remove nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-06

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

If I understand right, this way requires to mount NITdroid partition first? There is also modules folder which must be removed.

EDIT: I checked and I couldn't uninstall old kernel without mounting NITdroid partition first.

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

eagle-eyes,where do you have NITdroid, on microSD or on eMMC? If you are trying apt-get command, you need to mount NITdroid partition before that. Here is example for NITdroid on mmcblk1p2 (2nd partition on microSD):

Code:

sudo gainroot
mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and
apt-get remove nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-06

After that we need to umount partition and close xterminal
Code:

umount /dev/mmcblk1p2
exit
exit

I did tht and the kernel was gone from multiboot ….
But when I did :

First you should search which kernels you have installed:
Code:
apt-cache search nitdroid-kernel
It still shows the kernel and also in app-manager the kernel still exsist

When I did this its shows tht error :

apt-get remove nitdroid-kernel-2.6.28-06

The nitdroid is on the internal memory not on the micro sd
By the way I wish I can install it on the micro sd I have 8gb card but hadn’t found the way to install it there so I did the wiki way
Thx a lot for ur reply  and If u can let me know how to fix that and get it on the micro-sd
Also if I flash the phone with the .bin file will the the phone be fully clean from the nitdroid if I want to make a new clean installation on the microsd??
Best regards

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

WoW you are releasing those pretty fast. Thanks once again. Did anyone try to chroot into maemo from nitdroid and try to execute things like camera-ui ? I am assuming nitdroid's kernel includes all of the drivers, just not all are compatible/are handled by android.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious but what am I doing wrong? I can't send or receive messages. :(

EDIT: making a call says No SIM or SIM error but my menu-thingy shows my network fine. I've probably missed something stupid. please don't shoot

It would help, if you told exactly what you did :)

yeah sorry Im not thinking right
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=72365
I did exactly what was posted in there except I downloaded nitdroid by hand because I dont trust wget :/

if I try to make a call it says "No SIM or SIM error". I know calls are not supposed to work but the thing is it won't even /initiate/ the call.

just ftr, I got the same error with Vostok

edit: i DID read somewhere that it involves "removing" my SIM pin from Maemo. while it doesnt ask for a pin at boot I do have one set. How do I "remove" this SIM? I tried changing it to a blank PIN but it wont accept it.

WHY CAN'T PEOPLE READ THE FIRST POST OF THE THREAD? You cannot make phone calls. It is not working, so why write an entire post telling us the phone is not working. If you could, I am sure E_yes would paste it in great big letters. GET WITH THE PROGRAM!

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

are you talking about me? I said nothing about wanting to be able to make phonecalls except stating the fact that I can't initiate the call, even though it's supposed to work. furthermore, my goal is to send and receive SMSes and not calls.

Perhaps because it was right after my post, or because I had stated something related to phone calls that could easily be misinterpreted?

What does "feeling guilty" have to do with this?

Do the same thing with nano for example, but I doubt that it was text editor's fault you bricked your phone. And you could have reflashed it yourself with flasher-3.5 tool for free.

Well,if you in Malaysia I could have done that you for a price of nice coffee.

There's no auto way to install N12.You have to get your hands dirty by learning to install this the manual way through terminal. It's quite easy actually.

Do you want to use NITDroid in microSD or eMMC?

Re: [Release] N12 "UMay" - Android GingerBread 2.3.4

@ dmardsinra and if you really hate leafpad as I can't always get it to work just hook you phone up to winscp edit the multiboot file from there click save and it will work just fine..
