I don't think adding a gap is the solution The gap might be dependent on the font size and script (Arabic, English, ...) being used.

The problem should be found and corrected :)

Have you tried resetting the font using theme customizer ?

yup i did :S
let me reboot .
and yeah i have reinstalled , but still it is the same .
let me reboot the device .

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

the overlapping is still here :(
i think i have to wait for the mockup to get alive .
as then there will be separate blocks for translation and arabic ..

MSameer 2011-08-26 17:17

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

I highly doubt that the separate blocks will solve it but let's see.

I guess I'll start working on the theme stuff now.

@TransTech don't make a globe icon. We can use the T one for that.

@eefo Both arabic and english work fine here. there aare multiple urdu translations. which one is it? And what's the font size you use ?

My Arabic is slightly Rusty so I have that at the maximum font size so as to reduce as many mistakes as possible.

But down side to this is the English translation is huge as well which personally makes it all look very cluttered,

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@Jigzy You have a valid point but maybe it's a good chance to practice Arabic ? :D
Anyway, I'll do it when I start reworking the settings page. Probably after the theme support.

@ayazpak Thanks for your words. Thanks gors to everybody who provided tips, criticism, ideas, graphics, suggestions, ... :)

@TransTech
Brilliant as usual but let's keep the icon work for now.
It's next to impossible to convert that icon to SVG. I need to generate multiple resolutions from the main logo so that's needed. Let's work on it after the theme support. Is that fine for you ?

The icons for back and forward are not square. Could you please provide me with square icons ?

I am unable to figure out which icon is which. Could you please help with that ?

BTW: I love the new icons :) Great job!

Ok we'll do the icon change after the theme is added, in the mean time i will ask cloud596 to make one in 256px so that i can create it in svg format (inshallah). btw can you tell me the other sizes of the main logo, as i can try..(I have a 512x512 icon which is square in shape)

About the Next and forward icons in square i'll check and tell you.

I will also attach a file containing icon names and purpose in an hour..

:)

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

A square one will do.

The logo in the about page is: 160x160
The Harmattan installer needs: 64x64
The harmattan lancher needs: 80x80 (Not entirely sure).
Fremantle installer needs: 48x48 (Not sure) ?
Fremantle launcher needs: Not sure

I'd also appreciate an icon for "delete or remove".
An icon to show that a translation has been downloaded "like the one in the translations page"
An icon similar to favorites but with a filled background or something to indicate that the verse is in the favorites already.

I'll ask for more later if you don't mind ;)

@MSameer: oops... the dockbar problem was my fault.. i have corrected it in the attached new icons..

Link:
http://www.4shared.com/file/T_PL-Bz0/HolyQuran_2.html

Change Log:
1. All Icons Renamed to their respective functions (easily understandable.)
2. All New requested icons created and added with svgs.
3. New Navigation Icons (Square)
4. New Mockups showing new navigation icons (new dockbar not implemented.)
5. Added Application icons (curved) square in requested sizes. (Please use the Harmattan icon (posted before for launcher icon)
6. Dockbar and Buttons Backgrounds changed now super clear with curve endings.
7. Contain New Harmattan Icons for launcher formed by Cloud596

@MSameer: can you rearrange the dockbar icons as in the mockups.. and please refer the settings mockup for the font changing icons placement.

Thanks for renaming them. Really helped :)

If you guys can generate multiple resolutions from the app icon, why can't you provide me with the original ? It can be any format. I can deal with it.

There's a problem with the icons: The next icon is used for the back button in pages. It's a blue icon on top of the blue bar which makes it hardly noticeable.

At the same time, we cannot make it bright because it's used for the "floating" navigation bar.

I'm attaching 2 screenshots :)

I'm yet to work on the settings page and buttons but that will take a while.

I see 2 problems with arranging the icons as the mockups:
1) Which one is used more ? The full screen icon or the menu icon ? Which one should be on the right hand side ?
2) When we add the recitation icon, the page number label will not be in the middle anymore :(

I have sent you the original 512x522 app icon in png format that one is only the original...

i forgot to make an icon for the back button, i'll post here in an hour or so, [see next post]

about the settings page buttons, i just wanted to tell you that I change that (button backgrounds) one according to the new clear dockbar.

now about the rearranging thing, both menu and full screen is used more, so i have 3 options i.e.[4th option in next post]

1. the fullscreen icon on right and menu icon on left because the fulscreen button will be pressed always when the app is opened. whereas the menu button is pressed at the time of closing the app and also the menu buttons options are left aligned and its hard to press the menu button on right and and tap on the options on left.

2. alternately the fullscreen button on right and menu beside it, and when the fullscreen button is pressed it goes to the left, pushing the menu icon on right.

3. i have one more idea to make the fullscreen icon floating , and rearrange the icons (like in mockup), this will give a space for the recitation button (i.e. in place of favorite button and favorite button on right)..

[further more... see next post]

BTW Are you adding multiple recitation with a button to cycle between them, if yes can we be able to add audio of translation, tafsir, different type of reciters, and can we be able to put the files manually(outside of the app)? thanks..

ok i have made the back and recitation buttons you can download them from the below link, I have also made option3 mockup and new option 4 mockup (in which the favorite button is moved into the menu, hence creating space for recitation button)

The number of icons is not constant.

We have 4:
Favorites, menu, full screen and page number.
Enabling translations adds an extra 1. Recitations will add an extra 1.

You can have 4, 5 or 6. How would you center the page number when you have 4 or 6 icons ?

You also don't have to go to normal view to exit. You can select quit from the menu.

I believe that the place for the icons should be fixed. We shouldn't change it depending on whether full screen mode is enabled or not. It becomes confusing to the user.

I tried the new icon and it's having the same problems :(

Recitations will be put in /home/user/MyDocs/.n900-quran/recitations hopefully with 1 file per aya. If you can generate such files then nothing will prevent you from adding it :)
But initially, I'll use a list of hardcoded recitations just to ease the implementation (Same as the translations)

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

I fixed the icon. It was a problem with me exporting it.

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

i have the translation files (urdu translation), 1 ayat per file, its about 600mb :), all of them are in .wav format. but i'll try to find the recitation per ayat per file.

i think all 6 icons must appear but when its function is disabled it should show an error message to enable it from the settings. by this way we can centerize the page number.

i'll also show you a mock-up containing all the six icons later..

I also found that we can exit without exiting from the fullscreen mode after i posted that one..:)

what was the problems with the icons ? anyway its solved now....

i created a complete dockbar with six icons and page number, and in order to centerize the page numbers i think we need to add a index icon, i also created index icon and placed it.. see below...

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Finding the verse by verse recitation of the Quran is not an issue. Get more from here: http://www.versebyversequran.com/site/

The problem is finding a translation that is also split as we need but that's another issue.

I was exporting the whole page instead of the drawing which made the icon way small. I exported the drawing only and it worked.

All disabled icons can be there. We can then open the settings page for translations instead of the translation selector if no translations have been installed. The same can be done for recitations.

I don't personally like it but it will make discovering booth features easier.

There is no need for an index button. We are adding it just because we need to center the page number. I really don't like that.

I don't see the big problem with it being on the left hand side as well.

TransTech 2011-08-27 16:05

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@MSameer: I saw that website before but there are some files missing, so i dont think it would be reliable..

As for the translation that is split one ayat per file i have it but its only in urdu language.

About the disabled icons, that one is better,

I wanted to centerize the page number (and dont like it on left corner) because the corner space is important and ideal for an important icon (example> menu, because its menu options that appear are on left hand side and can easily be tapped on left side itself.) anyway do it as you like, it was just my opinion. :)

MSameer 2011-08-27 16:36

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

But you can tap anywhere in the menu. Even on the rightmost part! You don't need to tap the left part of it :)

I don't want to jam a lot of icons down there because the touch screen isn't that good. You can easily tap another icon by mistake. That's also the reason why I'm using the precious space wasted by the page number to invoke the index thus avoiding the need for an extra icon.

The icon you created will be used in the index page itself so it's not a wasted effort :)

We can farther discuss it until we reach a solution. I'm not going to enforce my opinion as well :)

TransTech 2011-08-27 16:46

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

well, i agree that we need the least buttons on the dockbar as we can, so it avoids accidental taps, i just used it to centerize the page no., btw what to you think about the option4, in the mock-up, (favorites moved to menu) or option 3 (a floating fullscreen button.)

I asked @Cloud596 to make a bigger icon of Quran App in Harmattan icon shape and here it is...

I also resized it to different sizes, you can find it in the zip file

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Eid mubarak all.

I've been busy rewriting the main component used for rendering text in order to theme it.

I also made changes for the transitions between pages and tried to do some improvements here and there :)

I thought about the icons and I guess I'll hide icons for disabled functionality. Why'd the user see some disabled icons ? We are only trying to centralize the page number which is not an issue. I'll simply leave it where it is on the left hand side for now.

Would it be possible to get a "search icon" ? I can use it for a new page that allows choosing a verse to jump to.

If you are sure that http://www.everyayah.com has better recitations then I can use that.

Have you tried the font on your PC ? Does it look fine with the Quran text ? A friend of mine fixed some of the problems with the current font and I'm yet to try that and see the result.

The app icon is pretty but could we get rid of the "bars" on the right ? I'd also love to get a "close" button as well to use it with some dialogs!

@laithaltaie Do you have a copy available somewhere ?

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

0.3.2-1 came out of the auto builder:
* Initial theme theme support
* Each translation language has its own page now instead of jamming them all in one page.

It should hit extras-devel soon.

I'll try to implement that but it will take a while. I already have a lot of items on my TODO list but will add that also :)

What do you mean by publishing it ? It's already in extras-devel.

Do you want it in Maemo extras ? I can promote it to testing but some people will have to vote it into extras.

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

hello this is really a great app!! :)
just wanted to suggest few features which might be added....
1) Is it possible to integrate "filter by para" ?
filtering by surahs is there but its sometime difficult to search because everyone doesnt keep a account of surahs

2) Will it be possible to integrate an optional theme with white text and black background?
would be great if so....

3) Can you add features like bookmarking the page no and the surah and the parah and the ayah?
if feature like that would be added then it would be easy for us to remember where we have read for the .ast time on N900...

thanks in advance

MSameer 2011-08-30 20:09

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@Minhaz Thanks for your words. Just pray for us all :)

1) Do you mean pick a part number and go to its first page ? Yes I'll add the ability to jump to a specific part or a specific sura (chapter) and aya (verse). That's the next thing I'm planning to do.

It will be accessible from the index page by tapping on an icon in the toolbar (Once I get that icon from TransTech ;))

2) Yes, that will be night mode. I'll start working on it too after I finish number 1 above.

3) You can already add any aya to a list of favorites (Just long press on an aya). If you need to bookmark a part, a sura or a page then add the first aya of it to your favorites. I don't see a need for a separate favorites list.

Eid Mubarak friends.. one and all :) ..

I was thinking of the buttons problem at the dockbar, and got one last option, to introduce a function button (F), when pressed shows translation(T), recitation(R) buttons as a floating icons above the present dockbar, which can be used to cycle between different translations, recitations etc. and repressing on the function button (F) closes the floating buttons (menu bar). See Mockup in next post

I will make a search and close icon as you requested, and it will be here in few hours or by tomorrow (as today is Eid in our place). See next post

I checked all the websites for verse by verse recitations and found almost all of them link back to everyayah.com and think its reliable (p.s. i also downloaded verse by verse ayah and they are of good quality. about 1.59gb)

yep i tried that font on my pc, and it works good. btw did you check it, because it may look different on mobile screen, (p.s. I prefer you to use the bold font version)

The bars on the right in app icon make it look like an icon for Book, so i kept it as it is, i will try to remove it, lets see how it would look.. :)

this method features easy interface, less buttons, hidden/faded out disabled functions, centerized page numbers(as prefered :)).

I haven't checked the font but I need to know where did you downloaded from ? Is that the QuranComplex font ? I prefer sticking to the current one and fixing it (The font license allows me to fix it) while the Quran complex one forbids me from modifying it in order to fix it.

I love CloseBlue.svg :)

The problem with the icon is I won't be showing all icons. Only icons corresponding to enabled functionality will be shown. This means that there's really no way to center the page number.

I still don't believe it looks bad on the left. I think it's still fine.

I'm also wondering what will the user think about an icon with R and an icon with T. Will the meaning be obvious ?

The magnify icon doesn't fit the theme at all :(

I thought of something similar to this one here: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...up1search.png/

yep that one is kfqurancomplex font... :( btw did you know something about the me-quran font ... its very similar to quran complex font and also free.. i dont know much about its licence but its free... :)

I prefered the center pg.no. look as it looked good i.e equal icons on both sides and numbering on center... btw i dont have any problem with it.. :)

i thoughed every user thinks like t for translation and r for recitation so i made those icons, btw before i wondered what would an icon for translation and recitation look like, in symbols...

i also thought same with the magnify icon, and i'm remaking it... :)

i noticed some bugs with the latest version...
1. full screen button toggles opposite.. i.e its downward while in window and upward in fullscreen...
2. while translations are enabled.. they disappears when moved to next surah or navigated to other surah through index..
3. translation font must be smaller than the arabic text.. and should relatively increase or decrease. the present one looks bigger than the arabic text.. (like english translations).

is there english tafsir available in the present version?.. if not will you implement in future?

(like english translations).

is there english tafsir available in the present version?.. if not will you implement in future?

me_quran has worse restrictions. You are not allowed to distribute it with an application without getting permission from the author.

I have that permission and I was using me_quran but it was rendering some words incorrectly (Remember ? :)).

Since you don't have a problem, I'll keep the icon in its place but will try to find a way to center it. I hope that's fine.

There's aare multiple English translations. Check them out :)

Now for bugs:
1) It seems fine here. I'll install the package from the repository and check.
2) Sorry for that bug. I'm trying to upload a fixed version but the auto builder is barfing on it for no obvious reasons. I'll keep trying.
3) I'll make the font size for translations configurable. You want it to be smaller while I have other requests to make it bigger :D

EDIT: The autobuilder worked finally. The latest should hit extras devel soon.
