Is is possible to sync contacs from google?

I am currently using a HTC Desire HD my contacts are in my google account. I need a way to get them the N9.

You can use the Mail for Exchange account with your Google account. Just enter your mail address and password and as servername m.google.com and you're good to go. Sync works with Contacts, Calender and Mail then.

Also maybe worth noting that this syncs only your own personal Google calendar. Any additional calendars that you have subscribed to won't get synced, for those you should use CalDav, as explained here http://wiki.meego.com/Migrating_from...ogle_Calendars

I synced my additional calendars with
https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/username/

(Using the other person's Google username worked for me, didn't have to do the uuid@group.calendar.google.com bit).

You might need to flash an unbranded firmware image in order to get rid of it (I hope this is possible on simlocked or branded devices).

Yeah being done by some of the carriers in Australia too...
Although AFAIK there's no such thing as being sim-locked here, if/where it occurs, you can have it removed by going to the carrier's website.
I could be wrong about some of the carriers though....

In europe the carriers are obliged to remove the sim-lock, but only after 1 year.
The n9 is fully sim-lock capable, and MIGHT NOT BE FLASHABLE if sim-locked (see Aegis stuff. read "might", meaning we don't know yet and it can change both ways). Buy with caution ;)

Instead of answering tons of question about the N9, I wrote a review here:

I hope that at least some of the questions are answered there.

Cheers :)

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

browser needs some work. battery seems ok, good standby ofc, but lasts me about a day of regular use. im enjoying the ui, but not sure if its because its different or because its good. with a better browser id be pretty pleased as thats a big one in my daily use. i like the chatsystem, not liking the fb app. as sms and calls go its pretty good. loads apps slowly, so i tend to leave some programs in the background, like contacts, phone, messages, etc for quicker access.

all in all im mostly waiting for a flasher, overclocking, and such.

all in all it has drawbacks, but all oses have those.

I think the N9 drawbacks, in an objective manner, should be put in one of the main thread.
The N9 has very good and very bad points, and people shouldn't be surprised by the bad aspects once they've made their purchase.
The list could contain, at least:
- Aegis
- browser missing features
- Aegis
- UI not customizable (not just closed source)
- Aegis
- No flash
- Aegis
- Crappy front and back cam firmware/software
- and probably Aegis + sim-locked by carrier

Reviews are highly positive, and that's good, but the phone is pricey and these could be some deal breaker for some. Good thing is everything is software updatable. Bad thing is nothing of this can be solved without nokia

Yes. The Norwegian Telenor branded handset has a brief logo video after the Nokia startup video, and two usless web shortcuts that won't uninstall, that's all.
Not nearly as annyoyng as that lock screen logo but once we have a flasher, so i can restore the phone if I screw up, I'll make an attempt at removing those.

edit:
They remembered to put those in, but forgot to sim-lock the device. Nothing happened when I followed their unlocking procedure so I just popped in my operators sim and it worked.

second edit:
From "dpkg -l" mwelcome-logo-320 described as "Variant package template for startup animation" sounds like one likely candidate for unistallation. Can anyone with an unbranded handset check if you have a similar package installed?

Yeah the telenor device i have too, no "w" inputtable in the lock code thing and after an hour at the store trying to fix the lock, we just smacked a netcom sim in and it worked.

Hi, for some reason I can't change my ringtone to a song that I've uploaded from pc. When I go to chose from my music, it doesn't show any songs ( I've deleted all the ones that were included out of the box). Any help?

Edit: works when disconnected from pc. Thunderstruck is already my ringtone!

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

Playing around with dpgk it seems all the telenor operator specific ackages are named ending with -320

I would assume the same applies to other branded handsets, just with a different number.

Digging further I'm pretty sure I could uninstall mwelcome-logo-320 and operator-bookmarks-320 to get rid of the useless stuff. But I'm not going to try until I have a way to reflash if disaster strikes.

Has anyone tried out the backup and restore process and know what exactly is backed up?

I too hope that a restore and backup might do the trick but i doubt it, how did you get that info about your telenor settings?

Assuming the packages installed by the operator have 'telenor' in the name, you can get the list by opening xterm (requires developer mode to be activated) and entering:

Code:

dpkg --get-selections | grep telenor

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

Not sure if this is a bug or feature, but there are 2 settings of same name (Allow Background Connections) hidden in these 2 settings pane

Internet connection
Mobile network

To allow the IM to stay connected and keep the event page updated, it seems that the setting needs to be enabled (otherwise it will disconnect when there is no much data coming in or out). I am a bit curious whether these 2 settings are linked because when I enable it in one (regardless whether in Internet connection or Mobile network pane), then the same setting in another pane gets enabled too. Same thing happens when disabling it.

It would be nice to get the settings to behave independently with respect to what type of network connection my N9 is on since I am not on a data plan (am constantly surrounded with WIFI signal ). In other words, I would like to enable the settings for Internet connections (WIFI) and have it disabled for Mobile connections.

So.. is this really a bug or it is just a feature of N9 (the linkage of 2 settings... or are they even the same setting that just happens to appear in both panes?)?

Re: N9 owners: answer questions & get help!

hrmm.. thank goodness i bought mine outright, so that im not stuck with the carriers logo on lock screen

*phew*

just a question guys, not sure if this is normal or just my device, but, the multi-tasking screen, my impression is that the apps still 'run' when you have it minimized into the multi-task screen
however, all my apps freeze.. as in, i cant see if webpages are loading or finished loading, or.. the compass, it stops moving when im not in the actual app
(however as seen in many videos, the compass will keep rotating)

also, any update on how to add extra privacy to my sms notifications?
i dont like my messages being read on the 'events' screen and 'at the top' when i just get messages

Web Browser and flash support

I am very disappointed in the Nokia N9 Web Browser. You cant get full versions of youtube and many other sites, you cant play videos from the megavideo sites either. You cant play songs from grooveshark.com as the full site doesn't come up and the there is no application for the Nokia n9. My Nokia N900 can do all of that easily. Even though we have downloadable file managers now. Built in official applications do not use file browsing to save, load and send files. Meaning if you download a file from any where it doesnt ask you where you want to save the file. If you are attatching a file on the email unless the file format is recognised by Meego you cant attatch the file. Basically Nokia has made and sold an Iphone in Nokia Clothing. The only difference is Nokia wont support the N9 but apple still support their I phones. I paid $878 for this product and I want to return it. Anyone give me a reason not to.

that might not work, keep in mind that N9 isn't anymore no limits device such as N900.

one could try one click flasher beta 2 if he/she wants to jump back to earlier OS version.. but there is no guarantee that one can come back from there (until a flasher and images are released...)

don't do that if you don't know exactly what could happend...

it seems that those two are just the same setting. disable it in another place and it shows disabled in another place too etc. (at least with beta 2 fw)

on my N950 you can see the blue progressbar in the multitasking window which tells you if the page is loaded. the page isn't rendered tho.

Yes, I see the progress bar, too , but not the page itself... I think this is the same thing as in video player, where the application itself is coded this, maybe to save resources while minimized. Other apps, like the store stay fully active (while downloading and installing some app) while they are in the background and there I can see everything that's going on also in the multitasking view.

Under settings, the last entry is "reset". Then choose the second button "reset device". It then completely formats /home/user and /home/user/MyDocs (don't know if / is also formatted) and restores the default settings into those.

The first button "Restore settings" did not work out for me, the error was still there then.

But beware! You lose all your pictures, music and also installed apps. It needs some time, don't touch the device during this. After it has finished, when it is booting up it is like you first started is (all settings have to be done again).

Edit: It's two days now since I did this and until now I didn't run into problems anymore... However, didn't activate Developer Mode or such since then, too...
