I know this doesn't make sense but...

Installed update and then found Contacts added to desktop wouldn't show up (existing ones or adding new ones from list). Restarted and they all appeared...:)

After checking I have the same issue. But I saw a previous post that said if you switch off your N900, and remove/reinstall the battery before switching it back on, the A-GPS functionality returns to normal using both supl.nokia.com and supl.google.com.

I'm planning to try this a bit later and will report back. Let us know if it works for you.

Exactly, you are not the only one. That's why i suggest to look for the posts that were made in regard to this issue in the last days and WEEKS.

Have you tried, as the post about 5 above this suggested, powering off and removing the battery for a short while? Have you tried changing the location server to supl.google.com (as was also mentioned within the last page or two)?

Hey ctl,

Here's a few things to try:

1. Most of the problems seem to concern the A-GPS (using cell towers) rather than the normal GPS (satellites). Have you tried to open Maps in the open and let the phone get a fix on the GPS satellites? Currently, I have no problem getting GPS to work outside, but once indoors, the A-GPS can't get a location.

2. If it's the A-GPS that can't lock-on, first try changing your Location server to supl.google.com from supl.nokia.com. The setting is in 'Settings>Location>Network positioning'. Some users have reported that this resurrects A-GPS functionality.

3. If (2) doesn't work, you can try what I suggested a couple of posts ago: Switch off your N900, and remove/reinstall the battery before switching it back on. One user has reported that the A-GPS functionality will then return to normal using both supl.nokia.com and supl.google.com.

Let me know how you get on and good luck!

I thought it was a hardware issue before I gave it to Nokia care two weeks ago! :P There were few issues with the keyboard though.

I too had the same problem of AGPS not working after PR1.3.1, with the setting set to supl.nokia.com (it was working in PR1.3). I found that if I unticked both Enable boxes in the Location Settings, Save, then went back in and ticked both boxes again, it started working, still using supl.nokia.com and without having to shutdown and remove the battery. Worth a try.

Re: Announcement - PR1.3.1 official security update

After installing the update over the air, i noticed a few improvements, slightly less lag.. improved audio.

I then tried the CSSU for a few days, although portrait mode is great, i'm so used to using the N900 as it is that i couldn't get used to it, so i did a backup on Ovi suite and then reflashed my phone to PR 1.2 using Maemo flasher.

After this before i restored anything, i updated the firmware to PR 1.3.1 using Ovi suite.

Even after re-installing all my applications, photos, music, videos etc, the performance from the phone has been fantastic. I now get over a day from the battery which has never happened before and there's no lag at all when switching between desktops or menu's :)

Your signature says you have installed CSSU. If so, don't flash with this image, an update from CSSU team is on the way.

@mr.Rizov,

Have you tried changing the location server to supl.google.com?

It may be that the A-GPS problem is unrelated to the firmware update.. apparently for some people supl.nokia.com has stopped working, but it's not clear if this is related to the updated.

Are you sure it doesn't work? have you tried to get a lock in the open (waiting at least 5 minutes, without trees or buildings around)?
Most GPS device take a one half to two minutes to get a fix in good conditions when not using assisted fix or ephemerides (which are network provided).

Tested this.
supl.nokia.com is not usable when I try A-GPS.

supl.google.com takes quite some time too but it works.

Reading some threads like
http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...supl.nokia.com
one point came to my mind:
what if Nokia forgot to update its certificates for supl.nokia.com ?

Otoh I read postings that supl.nokia.com was slow before 1.3.1 .

reinob 2011-11-10 15:39

Re: Announcement - PR1.3.1 official security update

AFAIK supl.nokia.com doesn't use SSL, so nothing to do with certificates.

Before 1.3.1 I had never tried supl.google.com, always had supl.nokia.com and got a fix pretty quickly, although I have to say that now that I've switched to supl.google.com the fix comes a bit faster.

Still no idea if there is a cause-effect relationship between 1.3.1 and supl.nokia.com not working.

...

I only read the posting at
http://www.developer.nokia.com/Commu...supl.nokia.com
which says:
"Make sure that your SUPL server is accessible over the internet and then set your server's address in the positioning server's settings. Now the only thing to fix is to make sure that you add your SSL certificate to the phone so that a secure connection can be extablished between the two end-points. That should be all you need."

and there is some handshake logging between "nokia supl server" (I assume that this is supl.nokia.com) and N95 which seems to be about SSL/TLS .

"Nokia Developer Moderator" writes "Nokia has a SUPL server and a PSY that communicates with it over a SSL connection." .

This is information dated 2009 so maybe it is all outdated?

Perfect GPS? You're kidding me. Use a BT receiver like f.e. Realtek. Quick fix, nearly perfect reliability even in urban / downtown & wooded areas.

You'll never get enough precision with those toy chipsets included today in cellphones.

Hmm.. I had no idea. I always assumed that no security was needed for such a thing. Once I even telnet'd supl.nokia.com to see what it would spit, and the connection was at least accepted, but I had no idea about the protocol.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find some information on this.
