Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

Yeah for that popup, if during playback if the orientation changes to portrait then back to landscape the "pop up" will be stuck there every time, at least until you click back then return to now playing, I changed the settings on mine to lock orientation during playback so that it can't reoccur.
I can't say I've delt with a crash yet but that hang issue I've noticed, but for me it's only when I close OVP that on the odd occasion it hangs in the background, for which a quick "killall openvideoplayer" in the terminal will remedy instead of rebooting.

Finally, sometimes playback is okay and OVP seems to work okay, but after closing it keeps running or at least hanging in the background blocking e.g. USB access to MyDocs.

Note that any "sometimes" can mean here a few days or few hours. I was using the player for a few days without any issue and then it hanged up on me 3 times in a row on another day, so its random.

I'm experiencing the same problems as you. It will also not open a video at the last position played. (Not sure if this is a feature before). OVP also seems to chew up battery much faster than the stock video player. It looks like 0.0.4 doesn't work well with PR1.2 and I had to reluctantly uninstall it.

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

i am PR1.2 , i have never install v0.0.2, just install v0.0.4
so video could be played, but when i play the 854x480 mp4 video the OVP close itself, but the same file could be played on the original player. is it really the OVP using the same decoding with the original player?, because i expect that the video not smooth playing on the orignial player could be played smoothly in the OVP

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

There's definitely something different in the way it's been implemented, like how it's displayed for example.
It's really hard to give any solid answers though as the default video player isn't open source, we simply don't have the source code available to study and compare.
Generally you'll find the default player looks better and is smoother for playback, when I watch a movie with the expectation of the best display quality available I tend to use the default player, when I want to be able to do stuff in the background or lock my phone and keep listening, for documentaries etc, I use OVP.
I personally consider OVP as a companion to the default player as opposed to a full replacement.
It's unreasonable to expect anything from software that's built in a developers spare time and released for free, essentially as a gesture of goodwill.

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

there is a problem with my OVP. sometype of video.
everything about the coding is the same but
one is 740x480
and the other is 854x480,
the 740x480 can play but the 854x480 not.
the OVP will close automatically. i dont know what different
(even 853x479)
so actually, what type of codec is the best for N9?
size must be 854x480,
how about bit/s?frame rate?and audio is 48kHz or something? and ACC or MP3?, there is too many questions.
i get a 64GB N9 for watching video, so that is my main concern problem.

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

Safe to say 720p files, esp mkv cannot play on N9.
Xvid and 480p mkv can be played.
Some of my youtube videos could play on OVP before 1.2 but now cannot be played. It can play on the stock player

Bitrate must not pass 2000 mbs or N9 wont play it..

Hi,

First of all, a big thanks for this video player including nice features.

I don't know if this is the right place for features request, but here is my wish-list :
-Video bookmark (resuming video where you stopped playing)
-DLNA (aka UPnP)
-RTSP / RTP / UDP support
-Apple HLS*
-Microsoft SmoothStreaming*

*I'm going to start working on this part, as I get informations and tools to test it. If someone interessed, please contact me

is there any way to change encoding for subtitles ?

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

currently, using OVP shows no videos found although stock video app shows all of them...

Marxian, kindly fix this one issue as since cutetube cant play videos while minimized, this is the best solution atm...

Thanks!

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

Sorry, but I'm no longer maintaining this project due to no PR1.3 release for the N950. The last version I released had no problems with tracker on PR1.2, but beyond that I cannot say, since I'm unable to test against current firmware.

thedead1440 2012-10-28 02:26

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

but aren't there many links for the leaked pr1.3 for n950?

Just curious...

or could you help me with the log i posted above which i get when i open a video using OVP in terminal? The log doesn't seem to be a tracker issue...

myname24 2012-10-28 07:54

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

I reset the tracker and videos showed up again .

subtitles encoding issue ? Any help ?

thedead1440 2012-10-30 15:57

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

while suffering from the OVP crisis :p, I suggest using kmplayer + mplayer...
It allows you to carry on playing videos in the background too with one caveat; the video won't be seen when its minimized...so you get a blank screen but the audio of the said video keeps playing on...I got a quick reply from the Project admin, Koss, stating that this is an unfixable bug...

Edit: If you require there is a slightly updated mplayer available too in the interwebs but it isn't really much of an improvement...in kmplayer I just select gstreamer+mplayer as my backend as choosing mplayer solely gives a out-of-sync audio/video...

I won't risk installing a leaked firmware on my only Harmattan device that has no warranty (not that any warranty would be valid if it caused problems).

The problem is certainly a tracker issue (though perhaps not caused by tracker itself), as it's tracker that is used (via QtGallery abstraction) to list the videos. The log shows errors communicating with the tracker DBus interface. Ultimately, I have several other projects that I can work on more productively, so I'm not willing to spend (waste) any more time on this one. I don't even have it installed on my device.

Slightly off-topic: I've added support for KMPlayer to the next cuteTube update, so at least you won't have to put up with the suckfest that is the stock player. :)

I implemented the subtitle support using JavaScript. The implementation sucks, and would have been improved (scrapped and replaced) if I were still working on this project.

Fair compromise :D

So playback in background will be available right? Are you able to have the video still displayed when the player is minimized?

An alternative to the Crap stock player would be great. I can't wait. Will this resolve the choppiness of the play back ?

Yes. Already tested and I can confirm that it works nicely. :) The only problem I've noticed is that there is no sound when the device is in silent profile.

That's more than manageable and acceptable given the current issues with stock player IMO

Cheers

Are you talking about mplayer2? I think it is more outdated than version of mplayer in garage :)

Marxian, could you also add support for KMPlayer to Open Video Player?

Freddo 2012-11-09 23:22

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

Thanks for Open Video Player, quite nice video player :)

One feature I would love to see is that you can select the path where it should look for videos, like the /home/user/MyDocs/Movies folder. Right now I have a bunch of video files elsewhere that belong to games (thanks to ScummVM) and I don't really want to see them in the video player. Not to mention that the video player can't play those AVI files anyway cause they use the "Microsoft Video 1" codec.

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

Freddo,

Tracker is responsible for it so instead of fixing defined patch why not just those videos of yours into tracker's ignored list; the easiest way would be to use N9QTweak to do so but you can manually do so too...

Alternatively, you can add a dot in front of those directory's names to prevent tracker from indexing it...

kai_en 2012-11-10 05:35

Re: [Announce] Open Video Player

I found that the video played using Open Video Player is generally not as smooth as Native player and KMplayer. The lines are not as smooth, it seemed jagged.

Use cuteTube instead; you can play all your videos using its archive function so its an all-in-one player already ;)
