Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

So. I've been playing with my N9@1.375 GHz. SR OFF, voltage 1387500.

Wasn't entirely stable. Everything except apps that use GPS worked. Dunno why, but Maps for example crash after a few seconds. After 20 minutes of playing games, watching videos on youtube with firefox and launching apps just for the fun of it, I managed to crash the built-in web browser at sunspider test.

Tried 1.4 GHz anyway and app-launcher just went dark and I had to reboot it.

The speed boost from +375 MHz was noticeable in every part of the system. I would very much like it to be permanent :-) The phone started to get warmer but I had N900 OC'ed to 1150 MHz for months and N9 at 1375 MHz is still cold compared to that :-D

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

Been using the phone @1.35 Ghz (SR on, 1375000) since the second version of the modules (over a week). No problems with stability.

are you using inception, or open mode kernel?
with open mode kernel, it works with devel-su.
if not using open mode kernel, did you incept opensh?
otherwise, you wont have enough credentials.

I did what it says:.
.n9 full open developer mode
.installed inception, opensh and aegisctl
.open terminal, and did what it says

What i forget here?

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

"installed inception, opensh and aegisctl"
as rcolistete helpfully already pointed out, these are probably not installed correctly.

Could someone please tell how to increase voltage ? I tried to search but I didn't find anything . :(

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

You don't have to search, read the first post.

It seems that you have a better chip. I tried 1.3 GHz with your settings and even though it seemed stable, it rebooted after 5 hours while idle. Damn.

How to change to 1.3 ghz? instead this 1100000000, i shood put this 1300000000?

you should update conky, yours uses the font with too much spacing

Is there any file manager with full access to avoid using terminal cp?

Creamy Goodness 2012-04-13 01:38

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

use filebox and enable 'show root filesystem' in the settings.
i don't think you have to cp the module every time though.
well, i dunno if it would have permission on that folder either. might work.

You can see root with filebox, but you can't copy files there

I suppose it would be faster to just write the damn GUI than answer any more questions... %$#@%$ good thing I have no life.

someone started on it already, thankfully.

cool, u should let us know if it's stable and what voltage etc.

It's been stable for the last maybe 5 hours (that's when I oc'd it, heavy use after that) so lets see and lets hope for the best. I Didn't touch anything about voltage. Just installed the Inception and did as it says in your first post...

handyAndy 2012-04-13 02:33

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

And let's add one thing:

I can feel that the phone runs warmer than before when under heavy use, but as a former owner of SGS2 I must say that as far as I can remember, it still runs cooler than that. SGS2 got very hot under heavy use. (and it wasn't oc'd)

flotron 2012-04-13 02:51

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

I don't see any difference about speed in the general phone UI, and no difference in temp.

I saw a very good difference with angry birds and firefox, it runs very smooth (1.3ghz) in NFS it run nice and the heat is acceptable.

But with 5 games running in background the thing is hot :) and phone dont run smooth

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

I've tried to increase the voltage , but after this command the nominal voltage and the rest of voltages shown by opptimizer it's 1375000 . I've used this command :

echo 1350000000 1387500 > /proc/opptimizer

The feed view seems to be little less jerkier than before, might be a placebo.

In my calculations (visiting several sites multiple times with different clock speeds) the web browser was about 0-25% faster (average being 15-20%) when using 1350 Mhz clock. Basically, heavier the site bigger the difference.

But I have to say, I haven't had any problems with the performance on default clocks either.

of course, web sites calculate cpu speed very good, yeah! :D

does the last line say v1.3 ?
do any of the lines show 1387500 ?

isn't there a way to unlimit the homescreens to use more than 300mhz of the processor?

why would they be limited to 300mhz?

I have no idea but someone from Nokia said so, lemme see if I can find it

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=83357&page=12

if the UI runs at 300mhz, does that mean that's all it requires and lag is from else were? or is that it's limited to 300mhz

Creamy Goodness 2012-04-13 21:21

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

if you change the cpu speed it changes for all apps.
n9 has multitasking.
it is not possible for the ui to slow the cpu to 300mhz if apps can run in the background at full speed at the same time.

Sniper_swe 2012-04-13 21:48

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

Sometimes when starting conky it shows 300mhz for like a sec and then starts showing 1150mhz.

Re: overclocking kernel modules for PR1.2

Just updated to 1.3 and now voltage control works . At 1375 and 1400mhz the device respond very hard , even in putty I had to wait like ~5 seconds to write something . At 1350mhz with no sr works well . I hope it won't reboot .

I'd be more worried about it melting lol

Yeah I don't know what he meant about the 300mhz UI.
It's true that the phone will run at 300 when nothing much is happening, you can
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/stats/time_in_state
and scroll around the UI and check it again to see but this stat doesn't work right when overclocked because I didn't update that table to match the cpu frequency.
