It would be better to share an Ubuntu image. I'm very interested to see Ubuntu 2D on Nokia N9.

So I can try if Easy Debian Harmattan scripts are compatible or not. If not, I can try to create later an Easy Ubuntu Harmattan.

of course, now I managed to try out my image, it has got corrupted - so am rebuilding it again. gives me time to recollect all the steps necessary.

Done! Wow, is fast! I think OpenOffice loads even faster than my laptop. Virtual Keyboard works great, except the Euro symbol €. Thanks rcolistete, Qole and all the people making this possible.

About how fast it is.

See FAQ #7 of 1st post about virtual keyboard issues.

here is my rebuilt image. I have not included unity in this image, and there is a problem with the v kbd from meego - it comes up, but does not work. Seems to be a locale problem that I am working on.

and try xephwm not suxephwm.

here is the image

https://www.dropbox.com/s/87pikaq2r4...berras.tar.bz2

How I built this image:

got linaro image nano version from:
http://snapshots.linaro.org/precise/...829-367.tar.gz

dd an image file of 2gb, and extracted the tar into this file. trimmed it off to remove swap file, and boot dir

added xephwm, suxephwm, -id.sh scripts to usr/bin
added xkb dir to /etc/share/X11/ from debian image
cp -L var/lock var/run (this are symlinks, and the qchroot scripts do not seem to like these)

addgroup user --gid 29999
adduser --uid 29999 --gid 29999 user
adduser user adm
adduser user dialout

apt-get install nano wget xterm xinit xserver-xephyr lxde xvkbd onboard wmctrl synaptic

(althoug onboard still not working properly)

adduser user pulse

GOOD THINGS
- bluetooth mouse works nicely (worked even with debian)
- terminal works even in lxde, as seen before

TO DO
- need to sort out locale problem - each apt-get complaining of not being able to use a locale. might be the reason why meego keyboard is still not working in my image

- added unity-2d unity-2d-launcher, but using xephwm unity-2d-shell starts, but goes into a black screen
---- I suspect that it is using a wrong DISPLAY, how can I adjust this?

EDIT:
tried the following script to start unity-2d, but no luck
#!/bin/bash
unity-2d-panel &
unity-2d-shell &
unity-2d-spread &
metacity &

See the Quim Gil's topic "Leaving Nokia & thank you very much for everything". The Nokia N9 I've received from Nokia in midi August is due to Quim Gil initiative (Summer'12 Device Program) and made Easy Debian Harmattan open mode kernel possible. We all are in debt with Quim Gil, so let's thank him.

a relatively nub question from myself, but followed the instructions, to the tee. Uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, including installing xmimd_1.2_armel.deb. The keyboard however is not translucent, it is still plain black.

I have turned off error correction, swype, etc. Only English UK installed. Ideas?

Please, tell us :
- N9 or N950 ?
- PR version, 1.2 or 1.3 ?
- Debian locale language is the same as MeeGo locale language ? See FAQ #7.
And the MeeGo vkb is translucent only inside LXDE by tapping the "Debian LXDE" icon. Icon "LXDE opVKB" shows opaque VKB.

Ah those sugggestions fixed it. Turns out that when setting the locale, there were so many options and by accident I chose the wrong one. Thanks!

Something else that I couldn't find in this thread, not sure if it's possible yet. If you're working in a text area (such as Open Office writer), and swipe down the keyboard, is there a way to bring the keyboard back up? The joys of a vkb hey...

Tap twice the OpenOffice in the LXDE bottom bar. Or tap in another text field.

Hi! i've got a problem after i try to run apt-get install easy-deb-chroot
Code:

easy-deb-chroot: Wymaga: opensh ale nie da się go zainstalować
Wymaga: xmimd (>= 1.2) ale nie zostanie zainstalowany
E: Pakiety są uszkodzone

MeeCatalog wasn't able to install that package (it wasn't even showing this package) so i tried to do this by console. But dependencies aren't satisfied. There's no Opensh package and xmimd

Be sure to select "Community Share Repository" repository and update, update in MeeCatalog.

Today I've checked in Terminal with "apt-cache show easy-deb-chroot", "apt-cache show easy-chroot" and "apt-cache show xmimd" : they give the current versions. So the "Community Share Repository" seems to be ok.

I've added as in tutorial Community shared repo (in meeCatalog from Well-known catalogs)
Even I added all well known repos in meecatalog and clicked update button(?).
Even used apt-get update (as root)
To make situation more complicated. Now after trying apt-get update. downloading stuck. I've removed MeeCatalog.
Removed a apt lock. updated repos. Still saying that Opensh has no candidate for install. Instaled MeeCatalog again added only comunity repos and still the same. I've tried to do manual install
But while instaling easy-deb-chroot (not easy-chroot) says that opensh package has no candidate for install . :C

Edit:Open kernel is nessesary for Easy Debian?;-)

Easy Debian Harmattan needs Inception or Open Mode Kernel. For both cases, "opensh" package is needed to be installed. See 1st post, item B1 for using Inception, or post #154 for using Open Mode Kernel.

I have the same (Russian) locale in Debian as I do in Meego, but when I try to type in OOWriter, nothing comes out, I try English and Russian keyboards (no bluetooth)

PR1.3

Follow the 1st tip of FAQ #7 :
* Disable the MeeGo option "Settings->Time and language->Text input->Error correction" so all softwares inside LXDE will show text as its typed with the virtual keyboard.

Another thing to try : choose English as language on MeeGo & Debian to see if the vkb work.

Does the vkb work for other Debian softwares (Leafpad, gedit, etc) ?

Re: [Announce] Easy Debian for MeeGo Harmattan : now with translucent VKB on PR1.3 !

I did FAQ#7, no go.

When I choose English, vkb works, only for English language

It does not work on anything in Debian.

I was thinking its because of individual program localisation, downloaded my language for icedove iceweasel and openoffice

But I don't know how to install, or what to do with .gz to test it out.

If Leafpad, gedit, etc, don't have vkb working, then I think it is a system related issue.

Also,

Icedove seems to conect to gmail for me, but I can't send messages or save to draft.

I get this error when I open it

Im guessing I didn't do this
"Easy Debian needs a Debian image (ext2 or ext3 type) in "/home/user/MyDocs" and named "debian*.img*". You need 3GB (or more) available on "MyDocs" partition."
How do I do this?

Your last screenshot is ok, it clearly shows the image "debian-m5-v3e-Sci-2GB.img.ext2" is mounted and chrooted. So, it is nonsense to ask "How do I do this", you've already done it.

icedove shows a problem with your locale (language).

Hi,

i have a problem installing aegisctl. It says that it needs kernel 2.6.32.20115101+0m7 but I have only 2.6.32-20112910+0m6. How can I install a newer kernel version without upgrading to PR1.3?

Re: [Announce] Easy Debian for MeeGo Harmattan : now with translucent VKB on PR1.3 !

I do not understand why "aegistctl" is needed at all. I suppose all it does is to
Code:

echo 0 > /sys/kernel/security/validator/enforce
or similar.

I've uploaded "Inception-0.1.1" (which includes "aegisctl_1.2") which is compatible with PR1.2. Try it.

Sorry, but it doesn't work, as aegistcl 1.2 also needs a kernel from 2012 but I only have the original one from 2011 which was installed when I purchased the phone. Is there any possiblity to update the kernel to a 2012 version without updating the complete phone to PR 1.3?

It seems you have a non-standard kernel with your PR1.2.

I suggest you to post this issue (Inception not working) in a Inception topic. Inception is only a dependency for Easy Debian Harmattan, not the main subject here.

Re: [Announce] Easy Debian for MeeGo Harmattan : now with translucent VKB on PR1.3 !

Hi all, it's possible that Easy Debian for Open Mode user can corrupt my MyDocs partition? Seems that almost all gone away from MyDocs, and the only thing that remained is Documents, but this one became a file, no longer a folder!!

As another user wrote into N9QTWeak thread, also for me the messages, contacts, photos, videos, Unrestricted System UI and LPS (logo) gone away.
Now I explain what I did (nothing unusual):

Yesterday I installed Easychroot, Easydebian (in a first moment with Inception, then I purge this one in order to install the package for Open Mode users), in order to compile my C and C++ files/project, from rcolistete thread, and all works very well.
Just now I sent one message (one message composed of two messages) but in the meanwhile that the phone was sending it I clicked (pressed in order to open its menu) on it and then I clicked on delete, but this one didn't deleted because it had not yet been sent.
I swiped down messages window to close them and then I open again it.
In the preview screen there is still showed the (eliminated) message, but after pressing on that conversation, inside this one the message is removed (correctly for the above).
Now, in order to unlock the situation I opened the terminal and from user I do killall messaging-ui (this command is also present in many N9QTweak Tweaks), but after that, as I described at the top of this message, all messages, contacts, Unrestricted System UI and LPS (logo) gone away, also if rebooted N9, wait minutes or clicking repeatedly in the blank space of messages or contacts windows (as you suggested to user with the same problem).
Clicking on Account icon I saw that there still were all my profiles.

Little clarification: Also the homescreen image image gone away, but, like LPS (in this one only the logo gone away), not the color and font settings.
In addition to this when I wrote Unrestricted System UI gone away I mean that if I click on statusbar there weren't widget, tools, etc.., but there were original System UI.. in fact the alarm, after reboot, didn't had delay, tipically for who have CODeRUS Unrestricted System UI installed.

In addition to this I opened with a File Manager my MyDocs folder (I suspected something) and seems that all gone away.. in the folder there are some older and newer folders, created for example yesterday or today before the problem, like .apk, Apkenv, Backdeb, .N9QTweakBackup (but this one inside have only usr folder tree and refhashlist.pl file), N9QTweakedBackup (this one seems ok), but have more strange (and I think serious) problem:
There is this path folder opt/N9QTWeak/Tweaks (and nothing more inside) and a file called Documents (I think it is (was :(:() my folder Documents, but if I click on it, it shows me PDF file (with links inside) of N9QTweak (if I open this one, it warn me that there isn't PDF file, etc.., obviously because there isn't Documents folder anymore.

Easy Debian image is a very large file placed in MyDocs. This image can be corrupted if not umounted before moving/modifying it, turning off N9, etc. But only the image content is corrupted, not the partition where it is.

The use of a chrooted image (for Easy Debian, Harmattan SDK, etc), AFAIK, can't corrupt a partition.

You've used a lot of softwares and tweaks, it is difficult or impossible to know the reason of your MyDocs corruption.

I think so, but I haven't tried it yet. It is in my todo-list. I think it is the same way of printing from a desktop Debian.

Yeah, you can see in this description of Debian images for Harmattan that Chromium has problems in all images AFAIK.
