Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

Thanks Elleo
Let's hope that Pebble will make it easy for their app store then :)

I have just noticed another thing this morning:
with previous version of rockwatch, when the phone was out of range, the connection was lost but when the phone was again in the range, I could just 'ping the watch' and the connection was coming back (at least this is what I remember)...
But now when the connection is lost, I see no other ways than closing the app and reopening it.
As it can happen few times, do you see a way to do it properly and even automatically?

Elleo, possible to provide feedback on the watch?
that is, that would be an watchface on the watch could request certain information from phone...

This is currently only possible via the HTTPebble interface which allows the watch to make HTTP requests via the phone and to request the phone's GPS position. When I have more time I'll make it possible for other applications to receive and respond to lower level messages from the Pebble making it possible to provide whatever information you want.

Nothing should have changed with the reconnection code since the previous version, however it's always been a bit unreliable. The way it currently works is that when a request to do something with the pebble is made and it finds that there's no connection it tries to reconnect, however it doesn't always detect that its been disconnected at the moment.

would be very cool, because it will develop more advanced program for Pebble (smart watchfaces) :)

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

I tried upgrading the firmware to 2.0 on my watch, and found a few problems --- but I don't think they're related to Rockwatch, per se.

2.0 apps that use GPS were not able to obtain the location from the phone. Otherwise, RW worked fine.

I downgraded the firmware to 1.14 and most things started working again. FairForecast still is not working for some reason.

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

updated and recompiled package Pebbl.
Prior to installation, remove the old version (0.0.1)
new:
*autostart
*works in background (daemon)
*added settings interface (off/on , delay)
*daemon configuration in the system settings
*added features:
- Connect / disconnect the charger
- Notification of 100% charge

Application starts automatically after 1-2 minutes after the start of the smartphone! Application settings (on / off) lasts 5-15 seconds. (or after working the last notification pursuant to the previously set time)

screenshoots/download:
https://openrepos.net/node/7556/

*separately add that experience to write such matter I have very little, so I can not guarantee 100% stable operation)))

Rockwatch doesn't finish the install, the pebble returns to the menu (with a small font and no icons) and the spinner just keeps going in rockwatch until I kill it. I've tried the update a dozen times with various combinations of factory resets and power-offs but I still get the same problem.

I'll try and dig into this further when I have some free time and see if I can reproduce it locally. From the log it would appear that Rockwatch is transferring all of the data correctly, after which the Pebble should take over the process. However the Pebble has a hard coded timeout for firmware updates, so its possible that slow transfer speed on the N9 combined with a larger than normal firmware package is bumping into this limit.

MeeSpot doesn't expose any DBUS interface for external control, I am planning on integrating the Sailfish version with CuteSpotify though.

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

Hi there pebble users!

I have a couple of quick questions.

If I update my pebble to 2.0 firmware using an Android device will it still work with Rockwatch? Are they compatible?

If they do work together, is there any point? Does 2.0 on the Pebble watch add any new features when used with Rockwatch or is there no point without a new version of Rockwatch updated to work with 2.0?

Thanks

N

It will work...up to a point. I've had problems installing apps using Rockwatch after upgrading the phone firmware to 2.0. Also, there seem to be hiccups with any app that requires GPS.

Deleting apps works fine, though.

Just waiting for third week already for my Pebble steel order to be fulfilled, and at the same time not planning to quit using N9 as my primary device in near future. So +1 and big thanks in advance (and donation as soon) from my part also for updates of Pebble-related stuff :)

I'd be really happy if we could have a version of Rockwatch with the set-the-time-from-the-phone bug fixed.

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

Hello All,
I've just got a new pebble and excitedly went through the paring process. All worked flawlessly until I got round to updating the firmware from v1.10.3 to v.1.14.1 . I get the same issue as other users have had.

The update procedure seems to go through on the pebble but the rockwatch icon just keeps spinning. No matter how many times I reboot, factory reset etc I just can't get the update to go through. Plus the text on the device is tiny which is annoying.

Is there anyone who might be able to help me find a solution? I'm a bit of a linux novice but can follow instructions. Thanks so much in advance!

@ Elleo

Are you aware of this? http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...26#post1421026

Maybe it could help your development with Rockwatch for Jolla?

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

It looks like Elleo is nicely trying to say "he won't give any further support" what is a shame considering Rockwatch allows some of the Nokia n9 fans to have a smart watch so my question for him is: could you please pass the development/support of this app to another developer, maybe Boxery or anyone still interested in meego?

I wouldn't rule out doing further work on it, I simply don't have the time to spare at the moment. However the source for Rockwatch is, and always has been, available under the GPL, so if anyone wants to submit patches or fork it and take it in a completely different direction there's nothing stopping them.

Hi! I watch to Nokia N950 (if I have time to buy one of their first on ebay) or Jolla phone to change my Nokia N900.

Also, use pebble smar****ch is exccelent idea! May be, I will you new user.

Please ask:

Will be support Jolla phone in future?
I want write more dbus/simple bash/python scripts, can I see it's out in smar****ch?
Is'nt special problems of Russian/cirilic? Pebble official software not support it, I know.

I know that you have a little time to develop the program.
But still ask,
add support to control the music player "QuasarMX", the more it is not so difficult ...
all necessary tools are already there:

1)The bus name is org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.quasarmx

Example call:

qdbus org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.quasarmx /org/mpris/MediaPlayer2 org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player.Play

qdbus org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.quasarmx /org/mpris/MediaPlayer2 org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player.Metadata

There is also a separate interface that implements additional signals not covered by the MPRIS2 standard. Currently it has two signals "startedUp()" and "quitting()":

Servicename: net.katastrophos.quasarmx
Object path: net/katastrophos/quasarmx

"QuasarMX" is the most popular player for the platform. still not free developer support.
And it would be great if "Eockwatch" and "QuasarMX" to understand each other.

Elleo 2014-10-18 12:53

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

When I next have some free time I might look into adding QuasarMX support, but that's not likely to be soon I'm afraid. You might do better just creating a quick build yourself that replaces the harmattan media player dbus calls with QuasarMX ones for the short-term.

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

I am again using my N9 and absolutely loving it.

However, I have big problems getting my Pebble to work with it. Rockwatch is a no go, but I also have even problems in connecting the watch at all.

Other have similar issues? After the latest pebble update I had not used it with N9, so I am guessing that problems are maybe because of that. The watch is working normally with my Jolla, so there should be no hardware issues with the watch at least. Others are able to use N9, Rockwatch and Pebble normally? Even with the latest pebble software update?

Boxeri 2014-11-15 13:27

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

I tried my other N9 also with Pebble and I can't connect with it either. So I am guessing it is definetly because of latest Pebble software update.

Has anyone got solution for this? I assume I can't be the only one using N9 and Pebble still today.

weird because I can't get it to connect with neither of the two N9 that I have. I have tried removing the connection from both the phone and the watch. It connects and the after few seconds loses the connection and won't connect again.

But the firmware on my watch is 2.6. Have you tried the newest and been able to use that?

Maybe I trie with older watch version, but i think that the activity tracking is not availeble for earlier versions. And I really like the activity tracking.

Try to make hardreset your watch

Alexxxl 2014-11-21 14:06

Re: [Commercial] Rockwatch - Pebble smart watch support for the N9

Another plus side firmware 2.2 - if I leave the whatch away from your phone - communication breaks. but as soon as I get back - communication is restored, and there is no need to restart "rockwatch"!
How this state of affairs on firmware 2.7?
