Just tell how they make money on the OS if fully open :O Not even Google do that and they main bussiness is not OS. In Jolla case mainbussiness IS the OS.

If you can deliver a solution for making money on fully open sourced OS you should send it too Jolla I am sure they are intrested in that.

Too many people has no bussiness perspective in this forum and thinks like childs of fanatic Rickard Stallman.

Ofcourse as much as possible shall be open but fully open is just a just as a wet teenage dream.

This is what the non-profit Foundation is for - to support as open an OS as possible without the motivation of making money. Jolla can be a big help just by delivering a modern device that is relatively open that the open source community can build upon. HW is one thing that would be especially hard for the Foundation to do.

No, they really are ******s. I bet Jolla started with their work before Blackberry on BB10. And I see absolutely NOWAY to relate this to Windows Phone, live tiles? No. That's totally different. Maybe the font, but this font is not owned by WP. So those people can never say anything about Windows Phone. And about Android, they only have their apps layer. But I don't believe that Android created a blue line to be placed in the UI. So Jolla has nothing to do with any of the software, Jolla is independent. So these guys are really ****tards.

Again, It's never about what you say. It's how you say it.

True, they did not use the HW keyboard even once. But in the latest video of their Hands-on demo, they showed the on-screen keyboard (which looked fantastic). And they did not have any back button or anything, so am pretty sure it will come WITHOUT a hardware keyboard. But I am sure that you can get one and use it for the device (By bluetooth or such stuff..)

For their first phone I think they should play it safe. There is much bigger casual market for touch-screen only phones.
IF their first phone is success I see no reason why couldn't they release a phone with physical keyboard

Thing is that hwkb works in nemo almost flawlessly (contrasting to harmattan where the hwkb is buggy to the point of uselessness)

Perhaps if Jolla doesn't come out with their keyboard phone some other OEM would do it.

Even though I agree I have to disagree strongly here. Jolla had few times stated/acknowledged the fact they know their hardcore userbase is already made up of tinkerers/programmers/FOSS enthusiasts. Is it openMOKO, N900, webOS, pandora... These guys will explode when no HWK is around. Implement BT before anything else for running Ubuntu/Arch/Debian on it, or else you have no control. This kills the multi-boot possibilities (maybe they would actually like it? once again I acknowledge the argument, but feel these guys are not stupid and will cater to their greatest fans out there, then again N950ish like device with hwk when standard jolla device has only software and charging for that piece extra 250$... every marketing guy will tell you it is a great idea, hope they feel dev enough to not allow it)

edit: It wouldn't make sense anyway... Sailfish is touch oriented. fully.
: (

And besides Sailfish being optimized as one-hand touch oriented, so far they have shown it working in portrait mode only. One further step away from h/w use case.
But I tend to agree with marius that perhaps Jolla could work on a hwkb device after they have completed their first 'showcase' device.

Look at BB and learn from it. They will fail on previous hwkb-typed msgs.
