Hi, I joined this forum not long ago. But been using maemo.org when my N900 was operative 2010-2013. I've been a Linux user since 1999 and here are my humble collection of handhelds
http://www.phrenk.com/bilder/handhelds.jpg
N900(a former phone, now tablet), 4x Jolla phone, Jolla tablet, BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition (tablet), BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition(phone), Geeksphone Peak (firefoxOS)
The Apple and Google products in that picture are not mine...

Re: New members say hello !

Just bought a supposedly new N900 to replace the Nokia dumb
phone I’ve been using for the last seven years but lost on a
bike trip last week. Nice piece of hardware and probably the only
smart phone I could imagine to buy.

I’ll take my time to configure it. Outdated repos are a pain but
it would appear that one gets there eventually. Glad to have
mutt and vim working. Next task is to get a working Ocaml setup,
hopefully with Opam. Downloading Easy Debian right now …

Greetings to you all!
It was about time for me to register here! I've been following this forum for years and it has really helped me. I've got two N9 (16 % 32 gb) and I've been using Jolla1 since the begining (not being one of the very first ones however).
Thanks to all members of the community, contributors & coders. You helped me so much!

Re: New members say hello !

Heya! Like phg, I just got an N900 (today!) as my first smart phone after using (and losing) flip phones for the past 10 years. Unlike phg, I got a "for parts" unit off of ebay for cheap and I'm hoping to repair it.

From what I can tell, the only things wrong with it are the continuous-booting-while-"charging" and shutting-off-after-the-Nokia-splash-screen problems. There's also a slight blemish on the lcd but I'll get to that when I can. I poked around with rescueOS and noticed that the battery is being read as "full" and charged at "0%" (I thought ahead an got an external charger too), so I'm going to open it up tomorrow and have hunt for loose connections.

If worse comes to worst I'll wait to get a slightly better unit and already have a husk to harvest parts from if I need to.

Edit: just to say I got it up and running from the "cold flashing" method!

Hello!

Seems that I've posted a problem and gotten it resolved before I said Hi to everyone. So hello! :)

I've been using the n900 for less than a week now. I got to say it's almost everything I've dreamed of in a phone. I'm not a linux developer but I have been running it since 1997 or 1998. I've been a Nokia junkie for as long as I can remember. Its the only brand of phone I've ever owned. I've decided to boycott iPhone, Android phones, and Windows phones for privacy reasons a long time ago.

Part of the reason I've gotten my hands on an n900 is because of the neo900 project. I've preordered and hope the project comes to fruition but if it doesn't I wouldn't be too surprised. Anyways... hello everyone and I hope to contribute in one manner or another to the ongoing life of Maemo.

:D

Cheers,
Mike

hi,
I'm reading in this forum for quite a while. Now I subscribed, because I needed to buy a Jolla 1 from another forum-user.
Since I have my first PC I use SuSE. My first Smartphone was a N900, when it broke, the Jolla 1 was new on the market so I bought this. Now I have my second Jolla 1 (the first one died).

Hello.
I'd like to discuss and learn about SailfishOS.

I live in Russia and I have Inoi R7 and Intex AquaFish. My gf has Jolla Phone (which was my former smartphone), JollaC and Inoi.
We really like SailfishOS! :)

Yes, it was a inside coup of some sort since leadership favor jolla over other oses. Freedom is slightly limited here. So we have to fight for maemo and others. I think maemo leadership are doing great job, always did. They just need to be a bit smoother and more relaiable. Mods should communicate openly. Not via PMs.

Stalefish was a new.

Thats why I favor off topics. There you speak to others and yourself pretty freely. That's awesome.

Re: New members say hello !

Think globally, act locally, Dave. Stop bringing up your favourite Jolla-related topic*) in every thread and we will all see the proportion of Maemo posts increase.

*) I am not going to say it but you know what I am talking about

Hey everyone,

Brand new here and got my N900 on its way to me. Made the switch to Linux last year when I started a new job in IT. I plan on moving towards network security so couldn't pass up the N900 :)

Hopefully once I get a bit more knowledge behind me I can help contribute as well.

Hey everyone,

Brand new here and my N900 should be arriving tomorrow.

I've been looking through "The perfect setup" and one I have the phone I'll start working my way through. I'll apologise now for all the questions I'll end up asking.

Hello

I have been visiting this forum on and off quite often over the years. I bought an N900 in 2012 purely for the hardware qwerty and came across this site. Until then I hadn't realised it was such a techie device.

I never registered before because all the answers to my questions had already been answered... until now. Also I do not have any coding skills and would not be able to contribute anything meaningful. However I always found the discussions very interesting and enlightening.

Hi, first post here.

I've been lurking on this forum since 2009, and never needed to register or ask a question as every time I've had a problem the info I've needed has already been here.

Great forum with some great people. So thanks for all the help over the years.

Hello,

I just bought a Nokia N900 and will receive it in the next days. I am very looking forward to discover this mini Linux smartphone and hope as absolute Newbie for your help...

I read the last days in the forum and I am really impressed, what you, the Maemo community, have built. I hope I can be a part of this Movement.

To my person: I love Linux and Perl, but everything only as a hobby.

Best wishes,
Max

Re: New members say hello !

Hi everyone!

My name is Finn and I come from a land down under (Australia). It's so good to meet everyone here! :p

A little about myself... I've been a long time collector of PDAs such as Palm OS devices and Windows Mobile devices. I recently learned about these fantastic little Nokia internet tablets late last year and immediately purchased both the N800 and the N810 (non-WiMax edition) off eBay. I hope to also get an N900 soon.

Since then, I've been lurking this site nearly every day, noticing more and more just how much of a real "community" it is. Everyone here is so friendly and kind, and always willing to help one another out. I decided to register and say hello, which was a rather big step for me (because of my anxiety I don't really feel comfortable interacting anywhere else online).

So a huge thanks to everyone here for being so warm and welcoming, because it's hard to find places like this where everyone is respectful and easy-going. I hope to also be able to contribute to this website and help other users here as much as possible, just as they've done for others. If there's anything PDA-related I can help you out with, or you just want to have a discussion about anything in general, feel free to drop me a private message any time, and I'll endeavor to do my best to help you out :)
