THAT is their OUT: No, we said "19th" not the "9th" :)

Wait a second, I thought you all were joking and not actually believing the 9th would be the ship date. You all were serious....

I have always suspected that the USA will get it first :) like Bob Marley said only time will tell :D

I wouldn't be that harsh - I'm sure people are more forgiving! :D

Just got off the phone with them. 19th is the case, it seems. I'm rather disappointed that they gave a date and then changed it.

Best confirmation of receipt prior to Christmas so far! LOL

I'm guessing they purposely postpone the date. The later the date, the 'newer' the device it seems for Christmas.

HD2 would seem as an older device than N900.

Personally, I more think it has to do with the bad press they might be getting from the charger recall.

Either way, it's a ****ing stupid tactic. Personally, I'm not all that bothered, but I can well imagine some of the other people who were told this date being ticked off enough to go buy one of the other *available* models on the market.

It doesn't matter how good a product is - if it's not available, people won't keep drinking the koolaid forever.

I don't know but tired of waiting since i pre order in September..

Look on the bright side. A number of people have learned an invaluable lesson on how much faith to put in the answers given to them by support staff.

Maybe now they could stop harassing them every single day and wait for the official announcement.

this is the last time i wait or preorder a phone from ANY cell phone company except for apple

I think Apple is playing their cards correct.

You can't pre-order phones from apple (or in the case of iphone 3GS I think it was only max 1 week before ANNOUNCED release date).

Well, see, normally, I'd not have paid it any attention. Having worked in a number of support departments in the past, I know what it's like. But having a consistent date being used makes me think there's more to this than just blind invention.

My other theory as to where the 9th came from is that it was a case hf chinese whispers, i.e. it was supposed to be the 19th, but someone somewhere typo'd or misheard the internal communication, and this is the resulting mess that came out of it.

What will Nokia tell us on the 19th of November? "We're sorry, but try again the 29th of November"?

NvyUs 2009-11-09 14:14

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I'm not bothered about the waiting, I'm bothered about intentionally being mislead by them
nobody can tell me that Nokia did not know it would not ship today when they was telling us up until Friday "yes sir we will ship on the 9th".
shipping does not get cancelled on the day or working day before this decision was made before yet it never stopped them misleading us since they ****ed up there system and cancelled our orders before making us order again. they intentionally mislead us so we would authorise the reorder after they messed up our original order.

w00t 2009-11-09 14:17

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I don't think it was intentional misleading, I think that either someone screwed up and got the date wrong, or the delay has been done to try mitigate any possible bad press over the charger recalls stuff.

Perhaps I'm not being jaded enough, but I think that deliberately doing this would be much worse for them in the longer run.

Uh oh,

I am seeing an algorithm here:

9, 19, 29....

End of the month shipping and early December arrival it is!

I guarantee it! :D

Did you all REALLY believe a sales rep? They are about as distanced from logistics as you can get. We need a Nokia logisitics
person or product marketing person. All others are probably going to be bunk with information.

Re: N900 shipping delayed

That's why I am sticking with D3LL. Nov 9th or Nov 19th or Dec 9th... does not matter because nokia is keeping tight lips on the release date.

NvyUs 2009-11-09 14:21

Re: N900 shipping delayed

if n900 was released nobody would be talking about the chargers.
releasing good news to cover up bad is well used stunt by corporations and government's, so delay is nothing to do with bad press from chargers imo.

If the N900 is a good product then a few weeks delay won't impact it. If the N900 is a bad product (cough N97) then being on time wouldn't have helped it.

I think it'll be a good product and I'll be happy to get one in my hands. If that happens before Christmas I'll be happy.

Depends how they can spin it. The charger news having gone out at 9AM didn't help.

I'm not saying, comprehensively, that this *is* it, this is just my personal interpretation of what might have happened.

ewan 2009-11-09 14:23

Re: N900 shipping delayed

It's hard to see how this could have happened by accident; Nokia UK clearly had a consistent line of the 9th from somewhere and it was clearly posted here; if it wasn't true one of the several Nokia folks here could have just corrected the mistake.

A little honesty really shouldn't be too much to expect.

Yep the sales support drones can only say the date that's on the screen in front of them.

It might be wise to remember that ALL the current published dates online (including MPD) are all guess work, we will know when the N900 gets released and that when Nokia tells us - not before.

Chill people it's only a phone... ahem... sorry "Mobile Computer". ;)

It's quite easy to see how it happens, actually.

"So chaps, I just got off the phone with HQ. we finally have a launch date for the N900, part number GONEOQGNEQOGNEQIOG. The 9th of November."

All it needs is one person to mishear or typo from the chain of the person making the decision all the way down to UK retail, and you've got the 9th instead of the 19th.
