Re: New members say hello !
Hi everyone, not really new but it seems my inactive account was erased or something? Anyway I had an N770 some eight or so years ago, and after buying a PocketC.H.I.P. I started getting an itch for another N-Series.
I got a non-working N800 for a buck plus $10 shipping after many months of lurking on eBay (last I saw they were going for about $30 maybe three years ago, now they're mostly $100--200???). If all goes well here I am very much hoping a refurb N900 can be my daily driver for a phone. Thanks for reading. |
Re: New members say hello !
N800 rocks baby!
you may get and use a n900 for your daily driver ...man.. But you will have more fun with the n800.... hahahaha....love your name... |

Just saw this thread, it was in the sidebar and since I just registered after lurking since about 2008, 2009 when I got my N900 as soon as it was released, I'm happy to say hello!

Re: New members say hello !
AHA!
A fellow super-lurker! hahaha I lurked since 2007-2008 before I joined in 2013... Figured I had to..I was starting to feel like a disembodied ghost...(erm..yeah...well I guess to be a ghost ....one has to be disembodied...so....whatever...) Anyway... 'bout frickin' time you showed up... Fly username...BTW... Bet you spent at least 3 years thinking it up ... :D :D :D Well it beats the hell of "Supreme Admiral Fluffy Underpants" (It took me 4 years to come up with that one...and another two years of sober non-hallucinatory focus to come up with "endsormeans") |

Hi, I bought N900.
Immediately after that, I started to look for what you can do with it and I came here. Now I am struggling with various problems, I hope that I will find many answers here. Regards |

Hello, poho! Welcome aboard!

Re: New members say hello !
Hello, great forum, got lots of N9 info from here!
Q: Opened a new thread regarding N9 ovi maps data, but it does not show up. Is this waiting for approval or did I make some mistake? |

There are some specific posting limitations (like no links or private messages allowed) on new users to prevent one time spammers and bots to do harm. I don't know how this works exactly for new threads, but that may be the reason for this. After a few useful posts, these limitations will lift automatically. |
Re: New members say hello !
Wow, flyte, 1 post, 5 thanks. Is that the highest ratio?
As far as know, new threads from new users must go through moderation to reduce the danger of flooding the forum with spam generated by bots. The moderation is very efficient (I doubt it is done by humans) because we do the occasional spam. But I believe it does impose a delay between a new thread being created by a new user and that thread becoming visible. |
Re: New members say hello !
Thanks for the replies. Well, I'm not totally sure the forum did store my new thread, as it does not appear on my account either. If a moderator is reading along, would be great if you could unlock the thread somehow. I have a question but I also have info on how to resurrect the defunct N9 Ovi maps downloading, using a local HTTP server.

2. Why are you private messaging me? Why me? 3. Why are you asking these questions in a thread for introducing new users? 4. Why are you not using the search facility? |

Re: New members say hello !
don't mind pichlo...
see... you are like the young tiny excited newmo swimming about in the great big ocean of maemo for the 1st time... pichlo and I and some others here have been around so long... we are more akin to the crusty barnacle covered Hermit crabs that are the older grumpy ...(yet with a huge wealth of years and knowledge...) in compare to you ... He is right... and I would probably have said the same thing ... or more or less curt...or more or less funnier...or something... We are happy to help... just aim the queries at the related subforums ... and as has been mentioned.. look to see if there is already a thread concerning your general or specifically related problem....before posting a new thread... It saves a lot of duplication and dissemination ... and your problem may have an answer already in an existing thread.., We are... On the whole... happy to help.. Just ... Think of us as the maemo equivalent of .. grandpa's with the shotguns ... yelling .. "Hey you kids! Get off my lawn!..." :D |

Grandpas, endso, grandpas. Not grandpa's.

Re: New members say hello !
New guy here!
Long-time Nokiafan, and have been trough some great devices over the years! The one that actually can't leave my mind is the Nokia N8/N9 era. Started of with the N95/N96, and after 5 pieces of the N95, i moved on to the glorius N8. When the N9 hit the shelfs in 2011, i did grab one for the fair amount of 5000 SEK (like 500 euro) After that it went on... Lumia 920, 1020, 1520, 930. As I said, the one leaving a footprint in my mind was the symbian-meego time. This site have helped me many times, with many problems, and now I felt like the time is here, to join the club! |
Re: New members say hello !
Noticed I haven't made my presence here known through official channel. So high to everyone! My name is Maemish and I'm quite newbie here. And with maemo. And know nothing about coding or compiling or such. A linux user and have tried all kinds or different distros on all kinds of different laptops, mainly older ones. Have inside my head some broken packages which can be seen as writing something on threads off the topic. Trying to stay tuned though to the right subject. I reeeeaally would like Nokia to find a right path again with devices and that led to purchase a N900 -and then some more of them. Have send tablet and phone plans to Nokia but they rejected them - and Nokia went down a couple of months later. So sad. Now trying with the new guys in charge. I haved already got some friends-ish from the members here and thank you for many good infos and conversations. This has been a great place to learn and communicate.
|
Re: New members say hello !
Definitely got some friends-ish here Maem-ish... :)
we'll keep you on the straight and narrow... And don't fret about nokia not paying any attention to your plans... I'm still waiting to hear back on my submitted blueprints to Tony Stark. Hear that?! I'm still sitting by the phone Tony, do I have to become an arch villain to get your attention? |
Re: New members say hello !
I just remembered I did not yet introduce myself yet in this wonderful thread. Here is my story:
I found out about the Neo900 in some discussion thread on heise.de, after joingin Neo900 IRC channel I discovered the wonderful world of the N900 and similiar phones. In the mean time I watched the Neo900 project quite closely and learned a lot from it. At the moment I am following the Fx HW Keyboard Phone and also watch the progress of Maemo Leste. I try to look at the active topics on tmo daily. |
Re: New members say hello !
Hello!
I would love to have an alternative (to Android etc.) & up-to-date mobile device. My main focus is on internet usage, not phone usage. Recently I got hold of a Nokia N9. Browsing the wiki & forums, it now looks like this is even possible with the N9 with either Maemo Leste or Devuan for the N9! Currently I'm taking baby steps; I already worked my way through Resurrect your N9, and am now tackling Ubiboot (which appears to be a necessary prerequisite for installing one of the 2 above mentioned OSs?) - and I'm stuck at the first step: getting the device into Open-Mode. OK, this is just a quick hello, I'll go back to work on this, but happy for any pointers to the general idea of making the N9 up-to-date and usable! |

Re: New members say hello !
Found this and realized I've never said hello. I had an account since long time (and an n900, great phone :) but I'm only talking here since recently Pro1 brought me here. Hello all :).

Re: New members say hello !
Wow. It's been soooooo long and just stumbled upon this thread. Hello all, nice to talk after a long. I was reading about the Pundi X's f(x) and then pureOS which led me to a topic about Meamo Leste. And thus, I came back to TMO to just see how it is these days. Anyone actively using n900 these days? Would love to connect with to rejuvenate my beast. Just realised, n900 is still in use in the third decade of this millennium. Mine in perfectly working condition, cheers 🙂🙂
Happy New Year everyone. |
