Mine seems fine. Maybe you guys are getting yours shipped. Or the more mundane and probable answer is that it is some random server error.

I am using Droid as I type and can see the point. Fast 3G everywhere, sexy screen, nice build, 3430, a lot of practical apps and phone centric design with one hand operation. Smartphoners would perhaps be better off with Droid.

Humans are spiteful by nature, so I can see people being seduced to Droid due to it being available now and N900 is not.

Still want my N900.

I have had all the above problems with shop.nokia.co.uk in the last week or two. I think they are just artifacts of its being overloaded with requests.

Hi guys, ive been around my local phone shops in the UK. The guy in carphone warehouse said he was excited about the phone and would check the computer for info about it. Couldn't find anything. Then I went to O2 and the guy said "No, definitely not" to me asking if they would be stocking it. Vodafone said that they had not heard anything. T-Mobile didn't have a clue what the phone was. Phones 4 U didn't know anything about it. The guy in the Virgin shop who was a "huge nokia fan" had not even heard of the phone! I never bothered going into 3 cause they have some 3G problems or something. And Orange said they were not stocking it. Not looking good in the UK, will MPD be the only place I can get the N900?

When i went into Carphone warehouse i asked the guy at counter "Are you going to be stocking the n900" and he replies saying "What is that, a phone?".

If a new iphone was coming out, everybody would have heard about it, there would be posters and advertisements everywhere in the shop. Why has nobody heard of the n900?

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Just had a chat with MPD:

"dan says:
if you receive the shipment on monday, would you be sending the phone out monday
dan says:
or the next day
Webshop Customer Help says:
we will not be getting them this monday
dan says:
oh
dan says:
well thats the last week
dan says:
of november
Webshop Customer Help says:
30th is the last week, sorry not made it clear
dan says:
then that goes into december
dan says:
so i might receive my phone in december?
Webshop Customer Help says:
yes"
dan says:
first time im hearing about this
dan says:
the nokia site says "exclusivity by end of november"
Webshop Customer Help says:
we will have them by the end, which is the 30th, we have hundreds and hundreds of preorders which will be shipped from when we get them"

Basically, if you have ordered from MPD, you are getting your phone at the start of December.

Nokia is not pushing the n900 like the iphone, the iphone is really dumbed down for ignorant people (as well as uber geeks I guess), whereas the n900 is really geared toward users who want a root shell. I dont think we will ever see the n900 marketed like the iPhones. It's just not the same type of device.

regardless of if it's for idiots, people know what the iphone is. Only 2 people out of 50 people I asked in my circle of friends knew what the N900 was. That's kind of sad, and many are generally tech savvy.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Ok, just called Nokia UK.

I gave the guy an earful saying I was originally told the 9th Nov, then I was told it had moved to the 19th Nov and I am still waiting with no money having come out of my bank account.

I asked what the story was and he said the ship date had now moved to the 23rd Nov and that was a 'tentative' date. I expressed my absolute disbelief that there has been no communication from Nokia and that I had never come across an online retailer with such poor customer service and suggested he feed this back to management. He said he had received a lot of similar feedback and will feed mine back also.

I then asked if the 23rd Nov would be the arrival date, date of departure from their warehouse or from their factory and he had no information.

Before you think i'm just another whinger, think about other companies that allow you to buy products online. For most of these companies, the customer is king and communication is key. Nokia totally fail to get this and are doing themselves a massive disservice in terms PR and reputation. We are the earlier adopters and should be singing Nokia's praises not seething with frustration.

Having such a massive gap between their press release and the actual arrival of the hardware just make them look like amateurs.

People are angry/frustrated by Nokia's behaviour. You're angry/frustrated because people aren't prepared to sit quietly and say "Thank you Sir, may I have another?" everytime Nokia issues a misleading and confusing press release.

We’re sorry to again advise you that the N900 has been delayed. There is however good news - Nokia have advised that we will receive stock into our Nokia Retail stores to allow us to dispatch your N900 on the 3rd December. Please accept our sincere apologies for this further delay which is out of our control, and be assured that you are on a priority list for dispatch of a Nokia N900 as soon as it becomes available.

Nokia Retail stores and Nokia online are the only place that the N900 is currently available on a pay monthly contract. For more details of the Nokia N900 please visit our new Nokia Retail website www.nokiaretail.co.uk

If you would like to discuss your pending order please email us at webshop@nokiaretail.co.uk.

Compare Nokia's sorry mess with the clarity, precision and reliability of the "Pricing and Availability" section of the Motorola Droid Press Release:

The HTC announcement was similar. I bet you won't find thousands of posts on forums related to those products with people saying "Oh I just rang up Newegg and they said [X] but Amazon said [Y]" and "Damn my order date got moved back again".

They just announced when it would be and hit the date, no problems at all.

No, it's because nokia have totally F**KED it when it come to promoting the device (so far)... maybe they are just waiting for the device to actually become available before they run any large scale marketing campaigns who knows. But when I worked at the CPW we had LG, BB, Samsung etc reps who used to come round all the time with promotional material and to fill us in on all the latest happening at their company. Obviously Nokia has failed to do this. You can’t really blame the guys in the phone shop because unless they sit at home on forums like this they wouldn’t have a clue.

probably should go into one of the existing threads this ...but yes, I had a similar online conversation with them as well. They were definitely suggesting that we could be into December before the handset ships...what a shambles and a PR disaster this has been for Nokia and MPD. I certainly won't use them again after all this nonsense.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

I received this reply from MPD when i emailed them asking, WHERE'S MY N900!

"Dear Customer,

If you do not know already, the N900 has been pushed back again. The latest information from Nokia, is that the handsets have started shipping from Finland and should be on the market (in our possession) for the last week of November.

There have been no dates given. As soon as there is concrete and definite ETA’s then the website will be updated as soon as we know – please refrain from emailing us – the website will have this information on it before our emailing and customer services representatives know.

The large number of orders has also lead to a large number of phone calls and emails – this flux is difficult to deal with especially when we need to give you, the customer, the best service possible. This is one of our efforts just to let you know the status of your order and also to try and make things a little easier for us.

Those of you who have applied for the N900 and have not heard from us need to:

· Use our online tracker to find the status of your order.
· If your status is ‘pending stock’, this literally means we are waiting for the stock, however your application for contract or PAYG has been approved and your order will be filled when the stock is here and ready to be despatched.

Should you need to contact us, please try out our new online chat system where you can ask immediate questions – all the information on the N900 is above.

Many thanks for those who have been patient with us – it is much appreciated – we are looking forward to despatching your order as soon as possible.

Kindest Regards, and for what it is worth an apology if you have found it difficult to get through to us, trust us, we are as anxious as you to send out these phones.

The Web Dept."

UK users, should we spam BBC Watchdog about this issue? How customers are badly treated by Nokia?

If they get involved, things would be so much different.

They started to get involved with the N97 issues (GPS + scratched camera glass) and now Nokia is given free backplate replacement for all N97s

Well I just sent mine. Get in! http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/gotastory
