They just announced when it would be and hit the date, no problems at all.

still: what is wrong with press release words: "in november" == "30.11.2009 or earlier"

so 30.11.2009 it is, you can only be surprised positively unless something unexpected happens (equally possible to date HTC gave)

Apparently the other manufacturers can narrow it down to a day rather than a month (and even at that Nokia still got it wrong). I'm not prepared to treat Nokia like the "special child" of phone manufacturers.

If you do not know already, the N900 has been pushed back again. The latest information from Nokia, is that the handsets have started shipping from Finland and should be on the market (in our possession) for the last week of November.

Now, if MPD sent that out to all their customers, days ago, they wouldn't be so inundated with requests.

I agree with others on here that it's the frustration of no knowledge, rather than the phone being delayed, that is the source of so much agro on forums like this. Nokia have been terrible with logistics and MPD have been just as bad with customer communication.

I personaly think that person responsible for all this delay is member of several of this forums and is having great fun watching us cry our hearts for our n900, and waiting for us to just get over it and ONLY than release it to us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Oh- and, I'm sorry, but "week commencing 30th" is the first week in December- NOT the last week of November... 'I know- let's see how far we dare push it...'

i really dont see a difference giving a strict date vs giving a deadline.

deadline means that you can get your device before the date if all goes well, stright date means either shipping at day given or delay.

reasonable person can look "oh, it is 30.11.2009 or earlier. so i must wait to monday 30.11.2009". if device ships earlier, customer will have happy surprise.

stright date means that you either get the device when announced or be very pissed off.

Everybody else does and Nokia wants every body else's money. They already have your money (I guess) so great. For everyone else to be happy though they want a proper date and good information or else they'll go spend their money elsewhere.

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

the difference is most other manufacturers don't announce the existence of products until its 100% ready to ship giving them a month to get it to market.
nokia always announce things way earlier than others when phone is in development still ,
so its a choice between openness or not knowing existence until it's ready to hit shops.
the n97 was announced like 7 or 8 months before released, where as the iphone 3GS was announced like 2 weeks before it was in shops.
would you rather not know at all or be part of the ride ?

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Well, I asked nokia.uk over e-mail about my order a little over a week ago, and on the 12th they said 'tentative date' the 19th. I should probably have assumed that if the date is still tentative with 1 week to go, then clearly they aren't going to make it.

This morning I received an e-mail from Nokia, first thing...I opened it with excitement to find...it was a request to feed back on their service having contacted them previously. ;-(
No other word from them yet. I've e-mail again to see if we can do better than 'tentative'
It does seem strange that they can't be more fixed in their predictions. And it really is poor that they haven't kept pre-order customers in the loop without us having to chase for details. What could possibly be going on with their logistics if they are unable to specify a date with confidence, when we are supposedly so close to it?

You know what, I have this horrible, horrible suspicion that Nokia UK & all companies/retailers tasked with sending out N900s to UK customers, will not ship the device until the Hutchinson 3G SIM card software fix is up and running.

I believe from what Peter@Maemo said (in another thread), they were hoping for a software update by December time. Hell, we're getting to December after next week...

amazon.com preorders

Just FYI

It is possible that we may all of us who preordered on amazon.com may have to pay $610 instead of the $560 most of us are expecting.

Quote:

Pre-Order Price Guarantee

Amazon.com's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, video game, or software item, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you place your order and the release date. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.

Please note that our Pre-Order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site.

If your order enters the shipping process before the release date and the price is lowered on the release date, we will automatically refund your credit card for the difference between the price you were charged and the release-date price. If you did not use a credit card to pay for your order, please contact customer service through the Contact Us box on the right side of any Help page.

If you read the text of the "Pre-Order Price Guarantee" it specifies that the product must be a "book, CD, video, DVD, video game, or software item". I believe we should get the lowest price. Hopefully amazon.com does too. I should be hearing back from them regarding this soon. I'll let you all know what they say in the morning if I have the email. Night all! The problem is, Nokia is still half way inbetween. They HAVE to let the cat out of the bag early, because they want community help, they want to get feedback on those 300 etc. So obviously, they cannot wait for the last device to leave the factory. But they have not moved to a true open model, they have only revealed what they have to, and been tight lipped about the rest.

If they would say 'we are working on this right now, hopefully it will be done x, and we can get them out y, for retail by z' if something changes, provide updates. They still want to restrict the flow of data though.

Did anyone else read the article about how the stock price improved since the announcement of USA retail availability yesterday? They want benefits from being open and being closed, and they will find out the flaws of playing middle field like this.

Re: amazon.com preorders

"Please note that our Pre-Order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site."

To be optimistic, the item IS "Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC" as it states on my pre-order. So I am expecting Amazon to stand by their Pre-Order Price Guarantee.

I was early enough in the pre-order line that I had a higher price showing on my invoice when the price dropped. I contacted Amazon at that time who said:
The discounts we offer vary from time to time. I see we currently offer a greater discount on "Nokia N900 Unlocked Cell Phone/Mobile Computer with 3.5-Inch Touchscreen, QWERTY, 5 MP Camera, Maemo Browser, 32 GB--U.S. Version with Full Warranty" than we did at the time you placed order #_.

Since this item hasn't shipped yet, I adjusted the price to reflect the current discounted price, $559.99 . This is the price you'll be charged for this item when the order ships.
SO I am expecting that to be my price (with rebate form in hand... waiting)

So if someone pre-order a device for $500.00 and then went on a vacation only to find out that they been charged $1,000.00 dollar because of a sudden jump in price in which he had no knowledge of...and this is all acceptable?? No way! A lot of time people buy products because of discount...ect. And if the price jump, it's the retailer's fault. They're held accountable and can be charged for misleading information.

Is Italy traditionally a big market for Nokia?

Nope. But Italy's mobile phone carriers dont have issues with Hutchinson 3G SIM cards - it's just these countries seemingly...

"Update: Nokia's official blog says to expect the Maemo 5 device to land in "Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America" shortly. However, it won't be compatible with the new 3G SIM cards from 3 in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Austria until a software update hits sometime later this year"
