Now, when I run "kernel-config limits 1000 1000" what voltage is 1000 using? 56? 72?

My guess is it's ignoring what you have there because you haven't specified anything for 1000. So it's whatever the default is if you don't have a FREQS line.

Thanks, but what's the default? I haven't specified anything for 1000.

the default voltage above 600mhz and below 1100mhz is 60 (unless otherwise specified or you are using settings other than stock)

if you did not put 1000mhz on your active freqs your n900 will not scale on that frequency even if you set 1000 to kernel limits IMHO because it is classified as avoid frequency.

so if you have this:

Min: 900
Max: 1000

active freqs: 0:20,90 900:56,500

your scaling max freq is 900

I have this:

Min: 900
Max: 900
active freqs: 0:20,90 900:56,500

Conky reports 900MHz and I know 900MHz is using the voltage setting "56"

Then I run "kernel-config limits 1000 1000" and Conky reports that the phone is running @ 1000MHz but I don't know which voltage setting 1000MHz is using since I haven't specified one.

So I guess it is 60? How can I verify that?

hmmm......

okay....we can verify that by (on x-terminal):

Code:

root
kernel-config show

you will be given results and now look for 1000:XX,500 and the XX is your voltage dor 1ghz. make sure you are running on the settings you have above

Can't find 1000:XX :(

Re: Overclock the N900?

There are documents on overclocking and links to threads that discuss voltage usage too, all in the Wiki. I prefer that you look up that information since you are the one who wants to know.

kudos to geneven.....more info on the wiki...

you will really not see the 1000:xx coz on active frequencies, you only have 0:20,90 900:56,500. on the wiki....the voltage at 1ghz values on all settings is 60....so pretty much, 1ghz is running on votage value 60 (unless otherwise you customized it).

Re: Overclock the N900?

Duh, this is weird.

A few weeks ago I was whining here about my brand new N900, which featured unexpected reboots when overclocked above 600 MHz (yes, a couple reboots even at 700 MHz, and yes, reboots even in "ideal" settings... reboots almost always happening when accessing the 32Mb eMMC).

I now found that these commands did not yet show any unexpected reboot (at least in the last 4 days):

kernel-config load lv
kernel-config limits 250 850

Today I was able to backup 3+Gb movies via rsync on wifi at 1.3-1.4 megabytes/sec sustained speed (three times faster than USB networking) without experiencing reboots.

Well the most extreme undervolting by most users is with ideal or starving settings (check the wiki to make sure I'm right) so it's not surprising thay lv works better for you.
