I get the sense that the folks at Jolla have been really, really frustrated with the hardware side of their business. Frustrated enough that they want to kick it completely out of the company... :) But still, they seem to be doing what they need to do to complete their current commitments. |

Fishy? Not in the least. I take it you've never delivered a product of any kind that required more than a few parts from different vendors and/or working with an ODM that might source different parts from different vendors. It's not like when Steve Jobs responded to "antennaegate" with "You're holding it wrong" - now that was fishy. This is something altogether different. Allow me to share this much: that's a lot of fault points and some issues might rear their head at any given time despite the best research and intent. Stuff happens. Glad they found any difficulties before they shipped it. Mind you, I've worked on some complex projects in my lifetime. But even then I cannot say that I've launched something a complex as a handset or tablet. And in most cases, despite best practices, something went wrong outside of my control. |

HeHe...step down from high horse, talking like you are the only one who have worked in the Real world. Mind you, you know nothing about me(and most others)
But sure, let's have it your way. Let's make it simple. We put our heads in the sand and say everything is soo/too complex and wait for delivery, what ever comes up. Yeah its just so complex so its was expected. http://www.yourselfassessment.com/up...16854_orig.jpg |
Re: Jolla tablet countup to delivery[Now With Poll]
Well, products like tablets and smartphones are complex. Another thing is that components are not necessarily available like going to Wal-mart and picking whatever you like. Usually big vendors buy majority or almost all of the production of certain components and smaller players get what's left. Judging from Mr. Saarnio's interview, possible delay with delivery is related to availability of certain components. So it's really about dealing with realities how the industry works, nothing fishy there. At least on Jolla's part. Besides, they have not yet confirmed the delay as they don't know for sure yet.

Airplanes(engines), cars(engines) are complex too and sometimes huge fees if you delay stuff...still noone bitching about complexity. wonder why that is...
1. screen issue solved then? good news if so :) 2. components missing for the 7.200 tablets...I have missed that, where is the link to that? please provide. or maybe it's the screen that is missing/lacking? |

Also today the company reiterated its intention to deliver the Jolla Tablet it crowdfunded last year (but has yet to ship). It said it is “working hard” to get the first tablets shipped. “The software (Sailfish OS) part of the work is in good shape but we have been slowed down by supply issues of certain hardware components. We expect to solve this issue very soon,” noted Saarnio, in a statement. |
Re: Jolla tablet countup to delivery[Now With Poll]
After reading this thread for a while i guess the reason for the delay are multipe ones.
First there was the screen change, then the above mentioned "supply issues", the Sailfish 2.0 and finally the AquaFish Phone where some time ad programming went too. Probably in a timeline of 2 - 4 months the sailor had to row quite a bit to rock the boat and it still wasnt enough. Jolla is still a startup after all. Anyway just my 2cents and i am still eagerly waiting my tablet. Personally the delay was just inconvenient for me as i did a lot of travelling and holiday where i really could have used it perfectly. |

My guess is the Jolla HW will only focus on HW adaption to make it easy for other HW companys to adapt sailfishos on they'r phone. That's all. But I still think it will be hard for them to convince phone companys to use SailfishOS instead of Google's Android. Just take a look around the world there are many "smaller" phone companys but everyone is using Android. Yeah also history company like commodore is making a Android phone now. It's to damn easy adapt Android so why lay resources on some small OS such as SailfishOS? And then we have Fair Phone. Not even that company is willing to run sailfishOS as mainOS. Now THAT is a company that SHOULD choose SFOS. But they are to affraid. Summary is personally I think 2016 is the last year we hear about Jolla. But atleast they tried. |
