guys...i have a cynical feeling...the delay may not be bcos of a maketing event after all.

I may b wrong but is the rootfs issue delaying the release? as typically an update would need on an avg 40-50MB on /.Now thats a premium on the handsets in the open, with apps installed from repositories such as 'extras-dev' and 'extras-testing'.

Considering the new markets such as Hongkong,this wouldnt be a problem and handsets can be released with PR1.2 straightaway.

hmm...so I feel it might go beyond the HK release

How about forgetting PR1.2 at all and wait for Meego. You could have it even with dual boot :

It's not going to be released, at first, anyway. In about a week from now, it will escape, passed on by a friendly programmer who will have received an advance copy.

This PR1.2 has to come out before the Hong Kong release.. Why? Because developer needing the latest firmware to test out their applications natively on the N900. Otherwise how are they going to support the device? It make totally sense if it release a few days before the release date in Hong Kong.

SDK = none for every users!!
Developer cannot find bugs by just using SDK alone. Otherwise there would be no bug inside maemo5 if SDK is all Nokia needs to debugging it

Not sure that's any substitute for being able to test on a real device. I know that has stopped at least one dev.

Let's hope the Santa Nokia Clause will bringing us the update real soon.

FYI, IRON MAN 2 is coming out on the 29th April 2010!!
If Nokia releasing it on that day then it would be that Nokia is waiting to see the Iron Man 2 first lol.

Yer - it's pretty dangerous having developers modify their apps for a new SDK without allowing them to test it against the actual platform... :eek:

I can't wait for this update. Nokia sent me an Ovi store card for $10 bucks and I would like to use it. Its funny, my phone breaks and they send me a useless card. Now I hear they are botching up the N8 now. Nokia will lose a lot more customers and their image tarred if they release a third high-end flagship phone that has no direction. They will be known as a budget phone manufacturer as opposed to a high-end device maker. WHY NOKIA!? WHY!?

Define developer for this platform, then think about what type of support will be needed and for what reasons.

Your logic is sound except that none of the past educated guesswork has produced anything more than a "no updates available".

While I hope I'm mere hours off from being wrong, I don't want to get my hopes up (again).

LMAO i hear its comming this week for the past 8 weeks now. Give it up guys its just skipped by nokia with the whole nokia and meego thing. else it would allready be there. because its is finished allready.

See it like the 10.1 update of the flashplayer wich nokia also skips because they think its not ready for the n900. PR1.2 will never come

If a Hong Kong buyer gets a N900 and crashes it in the first day... with what SW will flash it? PR 1.1.1?!?
PR 1.2 must be available before they sell the HK edition...

Who can tell that the demonstrated version in Hongkong isn't the SDK version? If so what will this garantee? Exactly! totally nothing! Its the same as we can do right now.

There is no garantee that the hongkong version has PR1.2 on release.

I dont understand why no one havent been porting these hildon desktop, etc etc files to the n900 so that we finnaly can run all the packages again!

This post says Thursday (29th) is the announcement date for the Hong Kong N900 so I'll be checking my repos then.
