Of course it did. If you look at the figures a bit closer you can see that NMP made nothing but loss, and NSN made so much profits that it hauled the company as whole well into green.

As I said, nothing wrong with that.
It'll get even better when the company's rid itself of the rest of the bad stuff :D

Re: Let's talk Nokia stock. Really.

They have already gottten rid off of poor coders, Symbian and Harmattan losers and now they made profit by selling it off to MS. Worked out well.

Smart device ASP down to EUR 143

Those poor coders at Microsoft certainly know how to devalue good hardware.

The only bit of NOKIA that's not now profitable? The Lumias.

Not only a crashing ASP but a Gross Margin of just 16.4%. NOKIA's dying dumb phones continue to return a higher GM than the Lumias.

Those poor-coding losers at Microsoft continue to devalue NOKIA's hardware.

Will the value of the Lumias drop even further once they no longer have NOKIA's name on them?

I think they are very positive news. BB died, couldnt fight the duopoly. MS and NOKIA are steadily gaining ground. Good NOKIA dumped Symbian and Harmattan. The best thing they did, and they should have done it 10 years ago.

That would be the most natural expectation.

But I would not blame Microsoft coders for that. They do not get to choose what to write. They get told by software architects and people with even fancier job titles who use buzzwords like discoverability.

ameba[ uh-mee-buh ]LINK0LINK0

noun plural aˇmeˇbas, aˇmeˇbae

1. any of numerous freshwater, marine, or parasitic one-celled protozoa of the order Amoebida, characterized by a granular nucleus surrounded by a jellylike mass of cytoplasm that forms temporary extensions, or pseudopodia, by which the organism moves, engulfs food particles, and forms food vacuoles.

2. a protozoan of the genus Amoeba, inhabiting bottom vegetation of freshwater ponds and streams: used widely in laboratory studies

hmm... I think I know what country you're originally from. Hadn't seen that spelling in ages.

btw, look at #2 - Amoeba. Both are actually correct, but I tend to try to treat you as an American. Clearly I'm wrong.

I assumed he*) was an American the first time I saw his "could care less". That was before he confessed English was not his first language.

Many non-English languages spell amoeba without the o.

*) I use masculine for simplicity and based on his nick but I am in no way implying his true gender.

Ameba is just easier to type out, but the likely original word is amoeba. And just to add to the mystery: I was born in NYC

Correct scientific spelling in any language would be Amoeba (note the italics). Mostly being a nitpicker spelling nazi, cause I'm a microbiologist and well... doing that stuff stuff correctly comes with the job.

Anyhow, interesting link on-topic http://www.nokita.fi/pitch/ . Counter to MS offer. Possibly a joke.

I don't know about validity of calculations or the company supposedly behind this but I do belive the MS offer for NMP is less than the value of the operations.
Under MS the remaining parts of Mobile Phones will certainly dwindle into oblivion in few years, though. Anything is better than that.

there is no value to the operations, except for MS based LUMIAs. MS is actually paying a premium on what is not worth much. Look what BB is getting for the WHOLE company. Half of what NOKIA gets for one third of its business.

Yeaaa....the phantasy of smelly amebas...we will see how much your Jolla phone stinks with underpowered specs and beta software that will require scripting , tweeking, modding, and god knows what else to work as good as asha phones.

There is a reason Nokia let them go: NOT COMPETITIVE

Microsoft's pre-alpha crapware has reduced NOKIA's market share to one eleventh of what it used to be. Now that's what you call 'NOT COMPETITIVE'. I could eat a C++ book and vomit a better OS than Windows Phone.

Yet another correction:
You seem to think there's a continent called "America." You might be referring to North America and South America--two continents... usually called "the Americas" when referred together. When people refer to "America" by itself, it's usually assumed they're talking about the United States of America, being the only country that calls itself America and that the rest of the name refers to the states of the union called America.

ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continent
Quote:

A continent is one of several very large landmasses on Earth. They are generally identified by convention rather than any strict criteria, with up to seven regions commonly regarded as continents. These are—from largest in size to smallest: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia.

Looks like Fairfax have pulled out of the purchase but given BB a loan the terms of which would put them in control if BB goes bankrupt. If it goes the other way and there's a turnaround their loan can be converted to shares.

I wonder what their plans are for BB once they've got control of it.

Sooo... any regulatory repercussions from the things coming about? So far, I'm not seeing anything about Finland or the US doing anything about Nokia nor Microsoft and the violations leaking out.
