This line shows that the image file is not in the folder /home/user/MyDocs. Further above you wrote "myDocs". Unless that was a mere typo, you may have put your image in the wrong folder.

lyanyola, I have to agree with rebhana, your file is in the wrong place. I don't know where it is, but it isn't in one of the two acceptable places for the file.

<keybind key="C-comma">

then you can use CTRL-<comma> to toggle every app back and to fullscreen.

It worked, thanks.
It allowed me to get to the virtual keyboard and press the esc key.

Thanks

Hi. Open up an X terminal. Go to the directory that you think the debian file is currently in.

To make sure it is there type

ls deb*

you should see the file

debian-m5-v3e.img.ext2

If it is there then type

cp debian-m5-v3e.img.ext2 /home/user/MyDocs

That will put the debian image in the MyDocs directory.

Hope that helps!

how to instell deb file in lxd ubuntu??

deegore 2011-03-09 19:31

Help me get puddletag workin?

I've installed all the dependencies with apt-get. I first insalled puddletag with the deb file. It would not start so I uninstalled and reinstalled from source. It shows up under the sounds menu but nothing happens when selected.
Code:

sh-4.1$ puddletag
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/puddletag", line 124, in <module>
    from puddlestuff.puddleobjects import get_languages, PuddleConfig
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/puddlestuff/puddleobjects.py", line 71, in <module>
    for keys in set(itertools.permutations(mod_keys, i)):
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'permutations'
sh-4.1$

Nevermind, I upgraded to python2.6 and its working.

i'm not sure the debian.ext2 is bootable, it has enough to run in a chroot environment only. i could be wrong, but i suspect this is the case.

is there anyway to change the lxde menu items? , i.e. add custom menus and entries? i've spent 2 days going through lots of 'this works for me' type posts on various forums, but no luck. i'm looking for a GUI method. even the lxde wiki advice doesn't work (download 'alacarte') , and i can't see how it ever could as it produces gnome* menu files instead of lxde* menu files. has anyone got a working method involving ,even in part, a gui to add custom menus to easy debian ?

I had issues when trying to update (apt-get update , apt-get upgrade) ... the phone reboots in the middle of the process then everything gets screwed up.
Someone pointed me it could be due to ext2. I am right now creating an ext3 image of it. Just wondering why it is not ext3 ?

run easy debian from MyDocs
from maemo: sudo umount /media/mmc1

theres a bug in dkpg that reboots your phone if the external mmc card is visible/mounted

Ok right now I did this time and ext3 filesystem.
I am only trying to update openoffice, and it always reboot while installing openoffice core. Then when I go back to the chroot, it always tell me about a STALE NFS FILE. This is really annoying. aptitude stays there telling it cant do nothing and suggest a bump of useless common commands.
Do someone know how to get rid of those Stale NFS File "false messages" ?
This time at least I was able to fsck.ext3 the file and it did not found any errors. However I cant delete those fake nfs things.
I dont know if all this is useful, I am really disappointed by the update process and the lame messages after the reboots. I would say this kinda sucks. Hope someone can help...

Those stale NFS files are very stubborn to remove. At least I have not been clever enough to do it. My only solution for this problem is to delete the debian image and start over. Then, when you start downloading programs, always do apt-get clean so that the file system does not get clogged up. To see for yourself how much memory is being used up, do a df while in debian chroot after a download. Then do an apt-get clean. df again and there should be a noticeable increase in memory. Finally, when you have downloaded enough stuff, back up the image so you don't have to start from the beginning again. Can't claim this will fix things for you but I have not had a problem with reboots or stale NFS files since I have followed this protocol.

How can all this be so unreliable ? the reboots ? the fs corruption ? the need to restart from 0 each time. Downloading lot fo data from the internet, etc...

Yesterday I only wanted to update openoffice, even that fails. Everything fails. Isn't there an elegant solution or diagnostic for wtf is going on there ?

Sorry for the words, but I really think this is sh#t ...

kpoman: what makes it even more frustrating is that we weren't hearing about these problems before PR 1.3... Sure, it was slow, but that was OK... Nokia changed something and made things much, much worse.

There's some hope over in this thread. I'm watching closely to see if someone finds a solution... freemangordon is quite the 1337 hacker so he'll probably figure it out.

After the comment you made above,i dicided to download the image file again using the Debian image installer, but still after downloading i got this message from the terminal:

ERROR! DECOMPRESSION FAILED!
Unable to install Debian 5/6 image with working audio
Unknown lzma error

Will debian software ever work on my N900?

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

Arrgh, i can find nowhere a "Debian Image Installer". i did xfer to m SD card an image: http://qole.org/files//debian-m5-v3d.img.ext2.lzma
but
ls -l /media/mmc1/
gives an empty line... perhaps this is some kind of permissions problem??

i can find nowhere a "easy-deb-chroot package" on the N900 though i have (i think) installed "easy-chroot" with the app manager... i get no new icons instlled on the N900's desktop...

Not sure what to try now, perhaps i will just bury myself deeper:-(

qole 2011-03-12 04:27

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

gheil: If you are using apt-get, you need to install the easy-deb-chroot package, and if you are using the App Manager you must install Easy Debian in order to get the Installer and other icons. The easy-chroot package consists only of scripts, no icons.

Qole

OK do i do this
apt-get install /media/mmc1/debian/debian-m5-v3d.img.ext2.lzma
if the file is in the debian folder in the root directory of my SD card?

qole 2011-03-12 04:53

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

No do this:
Code:

apt-get install easy-deb-chroot
Then run the installer in the menu. Choose your SD card and it will extract the image for you.

This is sudo problem, as qole explained. Similar may happen, when You try to sudo apt-get, but meanwhile the Nokia App Manager is still open.

When You connect Your mobile via USB to a computer, You are asked about Suite mode or Mass Storage mode or none of them.
If You select Mass Storage, then the "full access" of the first fat partitions on eMMC and SD card are handed over to PC and unmounted from N900. Of course You can not see any files anymore.

Quote:

That means, the package is already installed. Just go to the menu (system or others) and click Deb Img Install

what do i do next?

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

@lyanyola:

Perhaps someone has probably said this already, but please be sure that your n900 is NOT connected to your PC in "mass storage" or "PC suite mode" when trying to use Easy Debian. Those modes render the MyDocs and memory card directories inaccessible to Maemo. This would result in the error you describe. If you've already been through that, I apologize, and encourage you to keep going until you get it to work. It's a great program.

Yes, I uninstalled openoffice and installed libreoffice. Had to activate the unstable and experimental debian repos for that, and hashed them out after.
