Re: New N900 firmware 3.2010.02-8 released today (16 Feb)

for those wondering about performance improvements, as I mentioned in the thread for the 1.1 update, as often as not I find everything feels faster everytime I reboot. regardless of update. It just seems that after 4/5 days of heavy usage, things slow a little. and a full reboot makes things snappy again.
I doubt 1.1.1 has done any significant performance work.
(though would love to be found wrong)

here in the UK..still waiting ;-)

Disconnect and restart the device. It worked for me... It wasn't bricked! If it doesn't start, flash with flasher 3.5

I beg to differ. I reboot fairly often (say around once per day) and this is something else. Everything feels snappier, me likes

The rootfs is on a separate (and i think) faster chip then the rest. This enables the N900 to be quick :) (Again i think).

Most applications are optified, meaning very little goes in there, and most of it gets stored on the rest of the device.

If you use testing/dev apps, you may have un optified apps. thats just life unfortunatley :(

I've disabeled those to free some rootfs but still can't come up to 43. I just think that this is a huge letdown by Maemo for not controlling this better.

No, not an easy way, but it is possible, and software could certainly be written to sort this out with the existing infrastructure. Long story short: For Maemo, go to the Packages file for the repository of interest. For example, the "/extras-devel Fremantle free" Packages file for the n900 can be found at:

WARNING: These files can be large. Using wget might be better that viewing them in your browser.
