you should have left the last bit out of your post just to see everyone hammering their app manager updater.

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

...hm - I was pretty sure they would release it today. Having it in the wild two days before the HK release would have made sense for me. Releasing PR1.2 on a Thursday or even Friday (PR1.1.1 came also on a Tuesday) does not make sense for me.

I just went from UK to Global firmware (v1.1.1) in anticpation of the 1.2 release. It must be soon now!

Well could be. I have 57MB free, so if it is more I will need to make some cleanups, too. But I guess many of us end up reflashing...

If the time taken to release it is taken into consideration id probably guess its 3 Terrabytes which is why it is currently delayed :)

If any HK people pick one up today then id be very interested to see what the amount of free ROOTFS is on a clean device!!! :)

Helmuth 2010-04-27 08:26

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

Why not several small 10MB updates spread over a week?
Then we will not have so many problems with full root fs.

And, of course, so we can have several Talk Threads: PR 1.2.0, PR 1.2.1, PR 1.2.2, PR 1.2.3, PR 1.2.4, PR 1.2.5, PR 1.2.6

Well, I suppose http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space might help if you have not gone through that already...

I've got 1.39G for installable apps.. does that sound right?

Deleting OpenArena saved a lot of space.

That sounds right, but it won't help you ;) You need to have space on the root partition in order for the update to succeed - some reading on N900 partitions is in the following brainstorm: http://maemo.org/community/brainstor...n_in_the_n900/

Check your ROOTFS free space, thats what counts.

IF you are unsure how to do this? Download CONKY for a nice informative GUI to display the info.

aah, I see:

Code:

user@n900:~$ df -h
Filesystem                Size      Used Available Use% Mounted on
rootfs                  227.6M    162.3M    61.2M  73% /

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

Something may be going on. When I hit update in the app manager, it gets stuck for minutes in "Checking for updates, please wait" with zero progress. It is either a consequence of the deleted thread "PR 1.2 is out" that made everybody check, or it is a sign it is really coming?? I have not experienced this symptom before and now I get it twice in a row...

Caviar, what did you mean by that picture? Your about screen, is it just a joke (like always...tired of this) or have you actually installed something? It's actually showing the new release.

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

I believe that the week of the release is encoded into the version string somehow. Maybe it is the 16? Well, we have week 17 now...

Frye 2010-04-27 09:34

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

That 16 is the week number when the build was done. After that some testing, and after that who knows.

konttori 2010-04-27 09:45

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

the -8 means that it's the build #8 of that week.

And yes, every day now, we are getting closer to shipping it. It would be sweet to have a day counter, but, alas, we cannot disclose the dates in advance.

Wow 61MB free! lol you either havent installed much or are really good at housekeeping!!

You almost certainly wont have any issues if you are sitting above 50mb free with PR1.2 when it is released.

I on the other hand have abused my device and will be doing a complete reflash when it finally arrives :)

I had a lot of stuff on there and ended up 'bricking' it... So I reflashed it and got rid of most of my apps. Ended up being unreliable battery status causing the problem - was switching itself off even though the icon looked ~25% full (good thing lshal tells the truth).

Now I mainly use it as a skype phone, for email/browsing and hacking around - really handy if you need to VPN+SSH into a remote server.

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and its release date

Rage is back... 1.2 is being tested my ***. One bug has just been marked resolved on bugzilla and marked for 1.2 release. I'm happy of course, because that was affecting me, but that also means 1.2 is still under active development and not being finalised.
If they have some proper quality control process they will have to test completely the build which is going to be released, not just the minor builds before - which adds another week or two.

Alternatively it could be some mistake in bug tracking and the bug got marked resolved now, even though it was complete before. I hope this is the case...

I have absolutely no clue about this, but I would suspect that the bug was marked resolved after it was confirmed that this is the case during testing.

Just my 2c

But not every testing session is equal. You'd normally mark such bugs fixed just after you merged your work and someone else checked it's ok (or whatever variant of that maemo uses). Otherwise no bugs would be marked resolved until the last week (which is not the case as we know)

Yes, as I said I have no clue about this. I'm new here. But there has been quite many builds done already. Maybe those bugs marked as resolved have been in one of those?

Just guessing.

Bug 6016? Maybe the fact that it is fixed is just a side effect of another fix and someone only noticed now...
