Is it a bug in modest when it says password or user name wrong when using imap that sporatically pops up? I have to issue kmail to xterm, a script saying killall modest, in order for it to continue to work. It's really, really annoying (and random).

iirc, thats modest's way of saying "connection failed".

But it pops up consistently until modest is fully killed. Once it fails once, it fails until it restarts (modest). If this was fixed, modest would be so much better, but modest isn't open I think (as its a core program)

Like everyone else, updated my N810 from the previous CSSU without any issues. The beast hasn't been reflashed since Diablo came out, and just won't give up. Now if only Tear could be updated too... :-)

About metalayer-crawler, there is another option I've been considering (if I had the tim e...), and it is rewriting it from scratch, in python. Mediabox already uses the metalayer-crawler database, and quod libet provides a nice media metadata library at least for sound file formats.

I installed the fixed metalayer-crawler a long time ago and it worked fine since. The fix for modest "forgetting" the password is to delete the account and set it again.

Yes. Fixing it is left as an exercise for the reader...

Modest is open in Diablo (ok, except for localisation and provider data. Fremantle adds some closed components like MSExchange and Nokia Messaging support).

No, fixing it requires you to kill the modest process and restart modest. Which is a pain since it takes like a minute to fully load up.
Edit: read the bug report, nokia is too lame to release a decent mail app then won't fix it once enough people complain... I have pretty much decided to never buy or support nokia again. The lack of service they put into products (ovi, n900, maemo itself) is a joke.

from what i can tell, the fix should be floating around in the fremantle section of the modest gitorious repo.

and i could have sworn i have a "old" bug report of a similar nature floating around as well.

i find myself wondering how recent a branch of modest may still work on diablo.

this seems to be the fix: http://gitorious.org/modest/modest/c...29ffc112b3a0e6

apt-get remove --purge modest
apt-get install claws

:p

edit: if it wasn't clear, this was tongue in cheek, folks, it could break your tablet, so don't try this at home without parental supervision ;)
(I'm referring to the "apt-get remove", the "apt-get install" should be fine).
