Yes, I love that they finally manged to create jolla.com more than the OS itself. But most of all, I love to see the poeple bhind it. Its so boring when you don't have faces, images and knowledge of the company. Don't really care about the UI at this point.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

No, just their name flashed on the board.

qwazix 2012-11-21 13:40

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Also opera name flashed on the board. Maybe opera as a default browser?

I wouldn't mind that, did you see any "partner" related to maps and navigation? That is very important to handle that in a smart phone.

So WTH happened to the longer presentation (was supposed be at 1500GMT), I've been going through all the vid recordings & can't find a thing, it must've been bloody short if they did it already!?!

It was a horrible presentation :D But aside from that it was interesting to see images. I will try to track it down. It was very short.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

nvm think I've found it, how sad, thought it was going to be much longer, looks like it's going to be not much longer than the earlier one, not happy.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Well that was quite the yawn fest.....
Freaking hell they better get their act together with presentation, the whole thing smelt like a amateurish nerd/hippy-fest.
There's still SO MUCH we don't know, tomorrow better be an improvement, I can't believe I stayed awake for it.

Those people are not trolls to me but Lumiaman(and similar) still is and has no constructive critics, he is just a WP fanboy and should stay on his WP forums instead of sitting here and spread negativness!

And there are also many other who has no clue about bussiness and cries like childs about bugs on N9 that for good reasons cant be fixed or open sourced etc...

He he... Fanboys everywhere.

Except me OC. :D

Its so funny when two fanboys arguing who is fanboy :D

I think you should move this discussion to the whole is the biggest fanboys thread. We are sailing in this thread.

@ jolla. Com press the Jolla logo at the top to like, dislike or help them to create a ultimate one.

I quite liked yesterday's presentation, not much though, and still a lot of questions (which are covered in the other thread ;-) ). I wonder if they want to do what Symbian was originally for, but better managed.

It was boring becouse Jolla was the most closed secretive compony and the new CEO never said anything. (the real reson was becouse I was paid off by ELOP, don't tell anyone ;) )

Apperantly the two CEO's had a disbute during the last fishing trip. Elop commenting here:

http://twitter.com/elop/statuses/

But I heard that Marc and Elop planned a fishing trip next week. I havn't been able to confirm it yet. But the source is quite reliable...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I think jolla tricked/trolled us all with non-keyboard-friendly UI just to suprise you all with a keyboard next summer. They now looking/working to find the best Keyboard munufacturer to deliver the next step of n900. Thats why they never showed us landscape. Either the phone don't work in landscape. That would make the phone unusble or the keeping it hidden to shock the world with a keyboard.

I really hope they are going for somthing creazy design wise like a discphone or something.

Only Chuck Norris knnows the answer for this.

I don't remember seeing any keyboard at all (virtual or physical) - except by recognizing that Marc at least was holding an N950.

The UI I reckon is at its very early stages, so more surprises to come I guess.... good thing is that there is an SDK to play with and code to check out, and IRC to chat and all that.

While I've seen only one thing that I really really liked, I still hold my hopes up, since it is an obvious evolution from the N9's UI (which I like). Not sure if whoever tried Nemo also saw some elements of it.

Ah well... lots of questions though... maps? hw quality? so many others...

ggabriel,

They showed a translucent vkb that is ditto to the n9's...Most probably using the same malit plugin (not sure)...

The dead, did you see an hardware keyboard? If not, did you saw any navigation arrows on the software keyboard?

Do you remember in what you on ie the keyboard was shown?

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I'm trying to see if jolla have filed for any patents, but i can't find any Mybee I should try to get a few of Jolla's moves as my own patents so I can patent trolling like Apple.

No hw keyboard (unless you count the n950 demo); besides their homescreen isn't made for landscape yet...

No arrows on vkb but it was exactly like the n9 one except for having greater transparency... I presume since it uses the same as the n9 you can add arrows on the vkb like some have done easily on the n9...See the n9 keyboard themes thread; its very easy to get arrows (I haven't done it as i'm not a fan of arrows otherwise would have posted my screen)...

Would be a smart move to by Jolla to create some patents with sailfish before I do that or even worse... Apple :)

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prior_art
Apple can have all the patents it wants on UX's (sw patents are hugely questionable anyway), it wont count for anything if Jolla can demonstrate they already implemented aspects of the UX that Apple or whoever is claiming they've patented.
Sure maybe they should arrange some so they can be used defensively, as being dragged through the court/patent system can be expensive, it's really quite sad that they may have to resort to that though.

Dave999 2012-11-25 07:18

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

It's always great to have a few patents for the future. Sure, but is this article first rule apply worldwide? In every country. Jolla might not get any issues with patents now. But if the get any successes in they future they will be targeted if possible. For now, nobody cares since they don't making any real money.

jalyst 2012-11-25 07:31

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

AFAIK it's a rule that holds worldwide, it's a major pillar of patent law, plus many parts of the world don't even recognise sw patents.

What has the finish media said about Jolla Slush event so far?

I just saw this finish video and wonder what Ansi (around: 1:10) is saying in the interview?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4N3d...eature=related

I hope they get ALOT of good attention because Jolla team definitivly deserves it.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

That's one thing that's annoying about them, they seem to be very Finnish-centric.
They need to embrace talent/ideas/input from everywhere, especially east Asia...
The temptation for backslapping mostly Finnish or Finnish-connected people, is a real problem.

Well, time for Jolla to look at top notch battery, screens and SoC. If they want to be premium, then they have to deliver premium :D

I Love premium :)

jalyst 2012-11-26 16:08

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Yeah I hope "premium" doesn't = solid BQ & weird trimmings like diamonds & rubies etc, but crap SoC/screen etc, I hope they're not planning to build a Vertu-like phone O_o
I don't mind if they collaborate with Vertu for 1 or 2 phones (Vanjoki's a fan apparently), just don't make it their first flagship phone. I doubt they'll go that direction, thankfully.

Not the worst "conspiracy" theory that has been aired around this site. It would certainly make sense - WP is priority #1, or at least Nokia has to make it look like it.
So maybe in the end "future disruptions" has been outsourced. We'll know when the fat lady sings.
