Have you tried using pkcon?

By the way, it seems Jolla's note and clock application have been updated in the store recently... Clock 16th of Dec and Notes 19th of Dec. Microsoft Exhange and Android support have also been updated (19th of Dec) in store it seems.

I can't find a way to update the apps without removing them first... Any way to just 'update' them?

The pulley menu let#s you choose 'My apps', from where you can supposedly update apps. I haven't seen any updates appear though, and it says up to date on mine.

Anybody else experiencing earpiece volume not affected by using the volume rocker? I even get to "Mute" and I still can hear the party loud and clear?! :)

Yes and no. When I turn the call volume down to 0% it is completely muted. But at one notch it jumps to very loud, and gets even louder after that.
Seems like is missing values between that 0 and ~80% volume.

Solved this by hard-resetting tracker database. Music re-appeared, Pictures show again, all Ambiences came back.

Yes, the Video with the tech guy reviewing a phone is running in the Jolla browser >
Since I have no flash installed on the Jolla I suspect it is the HTML5 at work.
The other video plays in the Android application StoryPod but it is perfectly possible and more impressive two real browsers at work next to each other :D edit: http://vimeo.com/82504404

The music dominant in the beginning is the third stream from internet steaming radio in the Jolla Media Player.

The point to Android people: yes, you say multitasking and they bring up the possibly to open multiple windows at once to prove Android multitasks.

Hi. Thanks for your post. But just so it is clear, It is possible to stream multiple feeds on android. At least I can do it on my galaxy note 3. For example, I just set it up to show 2 you tube feeds on jolla phones, your vimeo feed on dual streaming and CNN live broadcast simultaneously. Three of them appeared in floating windows that I could move about the screen to navigate around. However, while android can do this I think what is very nice on Jolla is that it seamless integrates the multitasking in a more native way. So I look forward to having Sailfish running on Nexus or whatever is possible in the future!

Anyway post it here to:

Hi!

Just want to give feedback on the Powerebutton:

I have by mistake turned of the phone a few times by press the power button instead of volume. Especially when using camera application. It would be great to use powerbutton as shooter but I guess its not possible?

But atleast there should be longer delay, around 10 sec, before shutdown the device. Maybe also some kind of UI/sound warning before it shutdown.

Ok, I managed to get the WiFi hotspot functionality to work with directions from http://elinux.org/Jolla

I tried adding alias to .bashrc in home directory to launch the wifi tether with fingerterm more easily:
Code:

alias tether='/usr/lib/connman/test/enable-tethering wifi Jolla mypasswd'
But fingerterm simply disregards all the aliases in .bashrc, and can't get them to work. However they do work when I login via SSH from outside.

Anyway, I don't like having to turn on/off the wifi tethering from command line, so I made these shortcuts straight into the desktop.

Create following files:

wifi-tether-on.desktop
Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Tether on
Exec=fingerterm -e "/usr/lib/connman/test/enable-tethering wifi Jolla mypasswd"
Icon=harbour-tidings

wifi-tether-off.desktop
Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Tether off
Exec=fingerterm -e "/usr/lib/connman/test/disable-tethering wifi"
Icon=harbour-tidings

(Mind the line breaks if you are simply copypasting!).

Just copy these files to /usr/share/applications and you are good to go!

"Jolla" here is the SSID. You can use also the Fingerterm icon (icon=icon-l-terminal), if you don't have the Tidings application installed (I do like the orange wireless icon of Tidings though).

I know this is an ugly hack, but it works sufficiently while waiting for the official wifi tethering support.

I can't get the ambiences to work anymore; here is what i did.

I inserted an simlink to my SD Card - everything worked fine. I then deicided to keep the music on SD but to move my wallpapers to
/home/nemo/Pictures.
I disconnected the simlink to the pictures on SD card and since then I can't change the ambience anymore. Either pre-installed nor create any new ones.
I tried :
rpm -V jolla-preload-ambiences
rpm -V jolla-gallery-ambience

like user=att wrote in the ambience thread but nada.

Anyone any idea?

Yes it is. You need to do a small command in the terminal but works well now.
Can't remember what it was now but you should be able to find it with a quick search.

WFM. No warranty :)

Edit: (And you probably can escape to the root directory of Jolla by similar commands but I haven't tested this. There is danger that you can brick your Jolla with escaping to root and then going around and fiddling, especially if the permissions and priviledges are not right.)

There you are.

Go to settings then transfers then the vcf files will be listed but just under the name file.
Best advice is tto put all the vcfs into one file.

You can always use:
Code:

invoker --type=generic vcardconverter your_file_name.vcf
But first it is best to to join all your individual .vcf files to one big file. Use cat command.

PS.
Is there a way to EXPORT Jolla contacts to vcf?

I can personally live without the LPM (although it's hard), but what I really miss is folders in the icons view. I had many applications installed in my N9 but it wasn't messy because I used folders. With the Jolla I can't and that's really irritating. Only if you have more than one page of applications it starts to look messy. I really hope they'll add support for folders later on...

Can't be hard, but Learning Another New Thing must be postponed for a few more weeks..

Having a terminal multiplexer is quite helpful for any ssh action to the phone. After all, it'll soon be time to bootstrap Gentoo Prefix on the Jolla.

I'm using some Koss in-ear earbuds with inbuilt volume controls. Don't remember the exact model, but I bought it maybe 1.5-2 years ago and it cost something between 17,90€ - 21,90€... Probably all the other similar (and newer) models work too if mine does.

today i decided to buy a nexus five, I was sober, and it was in the logic that sailfish will be ported to the nexus five, but realistically after a few drinks, I don't think it would bring me the same joy as a Jolla phone would.

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

Here are my impressions after the first day with the Jolla. The OS is very intuitive and as smooth as butter. Having had an Android device for the last two years, it took me only a couple of minutes to get used to it...

While reading some of the previous posts here, I got the impression the software was half-baked and too "beta" to be released. My feeling so far is rather different -- sure, I've come across a couple of bugs, but they are really not that serious, especially given the workarounds the community has already come up with. I don't mind having to type a couple of commands in the terminal to get something to work... and I'm pretty sure most of those will be ironed out in the coming months.

And, yes, I already managed to drop it a couple of minutes back. :( No traces, but what I can notice is that the volume button is a bit loose -- I can hear it even when I shake the phone very gently. Now, I don't know if that was the original state. Others?

All in all, I am very pleased with my purchase. Now I'm eagerly waiting for TOHs to get off the ground -- a QWERTY TOH would make this phone absolutely amazing.

It's weird that Storypod is Android, because I installed it from Jolla store and I thought we had only native apps in there. Otherwise people could also publish a gazillion Android apps in Jolla store, right?

+1

I was also used to have sorted my installed apps in folders (like Navigation folder with all GPS related apps, Games folder with games, Office folder with useful apps for work, Media folder with apps for pictures, videos, music and so on). Now, even with just a few apps installed on my Jolla the icons screen looks quite messy and I can't imagine searching for the right icon on several pages with few dozens of installed applications. So, I'm also hoping to have the possibility of sorting icons to folders as the number of usable apps on store grows.

My impressions after a day are very similar to yours. I can only add one thing, this "half-baked" Jolla is with n900 easily the best "phone" i ever laid my hands on.. And things can only get better. Well done Jolla!

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread

Happened few times now, that when someone calls me the phone/people app crashes and I can't answer or see who is calling although phone is ringing. Afterwards calling back is impossible without a reboot.

Also the screen started to go to sleep after 5-6 seconds for some reason for a while, this was also fixed by a reboot.

Those are the two bugs that have bugged me the most, otherwise quite smooth sailing and no bigger complaints. The few android apps that I use work great, and the UI starts to feel more natural by the day. Just bring on the UI updates and fixes and I'll be happy for one.

I don't see such an option, even after copying my .vcf files on my Jolla. :confused:

This method with a linux machine :

- Export all you contacts y vcard, V3.0
- Copy to you Linux machine
- Execute the bash (see at bottom)
- Copy the file generated at ~/Contacts.cvf by blutooth or by scp to your Jolla
- Open the Configuration tool -> start contacts -> import from file

- This worked for me, import all my contacts in few seconds.
- Can be, you can execute this code in the N900

The bash code :

#!/bin/bash

TARGET="$HOME/Contacts.vcf"
rm $TARGET

FILES=`ls -1|grep -e "vcf$"`

SAVEDIFS=$IFS
IFS=`printf "\n\b"`

for FILE in ${FILES}; do
echo "Processing file ${FILE}"
cat ${FILE} >> ${TARGET}
printf "\r\n" >> ${TARGET}
done

IFS=${SAVEDIFS}
