Better send that charger to bigclivedotcom to check if it's electrically safe :')

I think I've heard a fly coming here in this room....

I mean I know it's positive but was looking for something a little more concrete. Especially if anyone is familiar with this process from another startup device or project

And careful, if you feed a stray dog, it might follow you home...

Does anyone know what the significance of this is? I mean does it suggest a particular point in the production?

Wondering the same as well. They've been posting a lot of fluff on social media but no ship date or updates since the last newsletter which was I think 2 weeks ago

This is a necessary step to clear the path to shipping these devices, so this is in a sense, good enough to send to FCC for final certification.

They are hopefully packing the pre-orders here in the next week or so, and shipping within a few days of that. For me personally, since they said early October, I'd want an arrived package or at least an in progresss shipment no later than October 7th.

If later than that, I will likely do a chargeback and wander into a Mall store to get some other phone, whatever $700 gets you these days. It must have a headphone jack.

well, after now a low-budget ultra-small phone is released - the Xiaomi Qin 2, we know that small displays are not the problem. so we can bring up that question again: how small the Pro2 / Pro1 compact can theoretically be?

I think that the regular Samsung S8/9/10 (not the plus version) is a good pocket size. Let's see what the future will bring us

What's small about that budget xiaomi?
It has a 5.1" screen and a ridiculous 22.5:9 aspect ratio.
If you do the math and include the bezels too, it's almost as tall as a modern flagship phone with 6" screen at 19:9, but ridiculously narrow.
That makes it easy to grip but impossible to use with one hand and horrible for media consumption.
And if you throw an imaginary hardware keyboard to that form factor, you end up with a device that's really uncomfortable to type too.

It is even smaller than Sony Xperia Compact series phones.
Dimension: 132.6 x 55.4 x 8.6 mm

Doesn't look compact to me.
And for XC that you mentioned (I have it), sony might thing that this is compact, but with those huge bezels it isn't.

Xperia XZ1 Compact is currently my daily driver and it is one of the smallest phones out there with decent hardware. For F(x)tec "Pro2"/"Pro1 Compact" I hope smaller dimension than 140x70x15 mm. 140mm lenght is suitable for my hands so that I can reach every button easily horizontal.

That's a different story. I was just talking about this oddly shaped xiaomi thing and the huge wasted space on all xperia phones.
For the Pro, I think that the only acceptable small form factor for one hand use, would be with the same screen to body ratio or more, 16:9 and about 5" screen.
Then it would have more than enough space to work and enough space for a nice keyboard!

Latest reply from erik in the cancelling order thread over at fx forum

"Hi everyone,

We are sincerely sorry for the delays. We’d like to reassure you that we’re working very hard to finalise all the legal requirements necessary before the device ships. I have reviewed our staff replies, and we have not in any form suggested that we’ll start shipping in November. The first batch of the Pro1 will be on it’s way to our earliest orders in mid-October. We expect the majority, if not all pre-orders, to ship by the end of October.

As some of you hinted, you’ve made a consumer pre-order from a legal UK business. What this means, is that there are laws, in addition to our policies that protect the amount you’ve spent. Although we’d be very sorry to see any of our pre-orders being cancelling at this final stage of our product fulfilment, there are certain laws, including our own refund policy that protect the funds you’ve spent towards the Pro1.

If anyone would like to have a chat with us, feel free to email us directly at info@fxtec.com, and someone will get back to you within 1 business day. We will soon send you an email with the latest details on the mass production which has already started.

We appreciate everyone’s trust and patience, and we promise the wait will be worth it! We can’t wait for you to unbox the Pro1 in the coming weeks.

Erik"

I feel sorry for those who are cancelling their orders at this stage. Fx team is making an enormous effort in giving us our dream device and i am sure they will regret this cancelation. Cosmo Communicator is also having delays and even big companys as Samsung and others have even worse delays/cancelations (Fold is the perfect example). Canceling orders will make the team not to consider a Pro 2 in the future

3 months? There are already users saying that after 2 or 3 days the screen has problems. Samsung gives one chance only to change the screen for about 149€. After that it may cost another 2000€

That's my post, @shaihkritzer. As experienced electronics engineer I needed to collect my jaw from floor when I saw dates of FCC certification.

I'm seriously mad on this situation and when my device will not be sent by 21st October I'm not canceling my preorder - I'm doing chargeback.

Those last galaxy fold comments made my day!
My friends, here we are talking about a galaxy s8-ish device with hardware keyboard. It's comparable to other hardware keyboard devices and nothing high end or anything else.
What that has to do with a device that has cutting edge technology, with state of the art specs and stuff?
Get it together guys :)

Just quick - to make preorders ready in August, certification should be done about June.

I was also surprised about this date.

However, it is a very expensive certification and a company should do several tests before release. There are unofficial tests which are cheaper and will not provide a certificate, but manufacturer can see what modifications are needed or if the phone really meets the criteria.

So the most expensive part (real certification) can be the last step.

However, FCC only stands for the USA and we have no information about other certifications suitable for example in the EU. I think USA was not the most important part of certification for the first run.

Probably, but the major concern here is the numerous delays. A consumer is free to do whatever they want.
If the device isn't ready, that's fine. Don't commit to a timeframe and then delay repeatedly. Shows a mismanagement and doesn't look good professionally, to me at least.
I have full confidence they are working hard to get the device out, and will do their best to make sure it's perfect, but as a consumer and early supporter, I don't like being strung along. What's not to say they wont do the same if your device needs to be repaired or if there's a problem with your order?
Just because someone cancels their order now doesn't mean they don't support the company or can't buy later. I think the pre orderers support the company in their endeavors, evidenced by the payment we gave 2 months ago. I just don't support the mismanagement.

All love for the team and their product, I'll wait a little longer but I can't wait forever. I feel like a fool for having waited this long and this purchase is probably more driven by emotion than anything else at this point. But regardless I'll give them a little more time.

All of this also explains why we haven't heard anything from them officially too. If they sent out another email saying there was a delay, it would be really bad press. I would argue keeping us in the dark though is worse. rather they be forthcoming than effectively being lied to.

I'm not saying he's wrong to do whatever he chooses, pre-orders (for any product) are probably not a wise thing to join anyways... Maybe should have worded myself differently or not speak but too late now. Do find it odd to get out so close to the finish line.

Personally I don't mind the wait much though, all is fine for me if the phone will be as good as it looks :). Why do people even expect this to be smooth sailing for fxtec? This is pretty much how startups seem to go, and they have quite the ambitious project. They could improve communications, sure, but they're obviously legit and the product is absolutely awesome, why so many complaints?

If you really care about the company, I probably wouldn't encourage people to cancel. I'm not entertaining a cancellation out of revenge or spite. I need a new phone ASAP and if they don't provide one, I'll have to look elsewhere
Most likely I'll buy this phone at a later point but I can't have my funds tied up here in the meantime.
Hindsight is a beautiful thing and had I known the phone wouldn't come out until this late in the year, I would've probably bought a better phone to keep me going for a while. But alas that's all water under the bridge now. Seriously though my phone spends more time on the charger than off it. It's pretty much gone

I think we all know that forum member, that’s waiting much more for shipping date than any of us :) Unexpected things happen, specially when you’re doing something for the first time.

I’ve gifted my main Phone to family member in June, and using a backup phone since then. Currently digitizer started to die.. as much as I would love to support this project, if my phone dies before the shipping, I would cancel my order.

EDIT:

It's not a negative post, I trust Chen, and believe that F(x)tec will deliver, but I'm too dependent on my smartphone for work, so I must buy another phone when my phone dies.
