Jeff, thanks for the feedback report. I am assuming that the final file played ok on your N810? Have you filed this as a bug in the Maemo Bugzilla?

No, it was on my N800 with an ahem "early release" of OS2008, and the playback quality was excellent. I haven't filed a bug as yet, do you still want me to, considering that my setup is not yet officially sanctioned?

Good idea to probably wait until you have a supported setup :)

so no easy way to put movies that were ripped to the computer hd (that are in video/audio subfolders)? I love the program, but as of now I can only play videos that I've recorded from the pc tuner. I'd love to watch movies on my next flight.

I am not sure I understand the question.....You can convert any videos just by dragging/dropping them into the application main window.

but you can't drag/drop folders in. This is the format that my movies are in. There is an Audio and a Video folder. The video has .vob, .ifo, and .bup files in it.

Oh I see. Yep that won't work. For now the input file has to be in a format that WMP knows how to handle.

You're talking about a DVD rip. If I'm not mistaken, this product from Nokia does not convert DVDs to video files, it takes existing video files (.avi, .mp4,etc ) and re-encodes them for better playback on the tablet.

You want a program like handbrake: http://handbrake.m0k.org/

Re: The Nokia Internet Tablet Video Converter

After some fiddling around with mencoder I am finally producing video that's equivalent to the output of the Nokia VC.

for 4:3
Code:

mencoder -vf scale=320:240 -oac mp3lame -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 inputfile -o output.avi
for 16:9
Code:

mencoder -vf scale=400:240 -oac mp3lame -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4 inputfile -o output.avi
It takes about 15 minutes to transcode a hour of video

Re: The Nokia Internet Tablet Video Converter

Jeff,

What bitrate is the resulting file using for both video and audio?

If it's distinctly better than what you've got with tablet-encode (even after you've fiddled with the presets), obviously I'd like to know!

Could you compare it with the current svn version of tablet-encode which will become v2.01 at some point:

https://garage.maemo.org/plugins/scm...iautils&rev=47

Primarily the presets have been simplified and generally bumped up, with "best" now topping out at 800kbps/192kbps audio. There's also a slight sharpening filter applied to try and improve the appearance. Initial comments from testers have been positive, but I'd appreciate your feedback.
