Re: PR1.1 and unusual battery drain (not wifi related)

My n900 was warmer than usual for a couple of hours after the 1.1 update which had me somewhat concerned! However it is back to normal after a reboot and I have not noticed any battery life issues at all...

While I wish I had a larger battery in the device I dont know if I trust all of the aftermarket options... I would be suspicious of the battery here, does it also drain quickly with the stock Nokia battery?

the 1900mAh battery i had use to give me great battery life, i use to be able to get at least 20 hours of battery life. i.e. disconnecting at 9am and then at 9pm at night i'd still have something like 40-50% battery left.

this is not mugen proper but i think it's their supplier in China. battery is even worse with the stock battery...

i only get something like 12 hours (even less maybe) now...

Re: PR1.1 and unusual battery drain (not wifi related)

Okay, I'm fairly sure now that Firefox is the culprit behind the sudden battery drain.

Recap: after the update I reinstalled my applications, including Firefox. Then I noticed that the battery drained completely within only a few hours. I uninstalled a few apps, including Firefox, and the problem seemed to go away. Then I began troubleshooting by reinstalling the apps one by one, starting with Firefox.

Sure enough, after installing Firefox the battery dropped again, drastically. From having been fully charged I suddenly noticed it being almost empty. I then checked with the top command and noticed hildon-home using around 20% CPU constantly. I uninstalled Firefox again, and after a reboot and some waiting, the battery became stable again. I've had it like that for many hours now without noticeable drain.

So: UNINSTALL FIREFOX! It somehow makes hildon-home go into overdrive and eat your battery in a few hours time. Make sure you get the Mozilla runtimes too. Simply not using FF doesn't help, you gotta uninstall it.

Hope this helps anyone else having battery troubles after the update!

i don't have firefox installed... when i first installed it and that was before the update i found the battery drain increased and uninstalled it right then.

that's not it for me... :(

Damn =/ Try uninstallng all apps you can live without and see if it helps. Maybe there's another app that does the same to hildon-home as FF.

I have firefox installed, I very rarely use it but like I said above I see no major issues with battery life.

i noticed my battery lasted shorter too; and i also noticed that it takes longer now to fully charge the battery

i have the default apps installed, i've removed the weather widget, system info widget (even though they weren't activated).

the only really different thing i installed is google-pinyin but i have no idea how that could possibly be using up the battery... that's only activated when a text input is selected and i close the conversation app everytime before i put the device on standby...

i'm out of ideas...

Re: PR1.1 and unusual battery drain (not wifi related)

perhaps the n9 isn't fully recharging its battery? I've noticed that when plugged in via usb to my computer, and the led turns green (theoretically fully charged), and then I unplug for a few minutes, mess around with it, and plug it back in, it seems to take a longer-than-expected time to turn green again (~10 minutes). You'd think it be pretty quick.

Don't know how everyone is recharging their unit, but try it with the provided power supply, not computer->usb. I recharge with the dumb power supply and haven't seen any power drain issues.

In pr1.1, I think they tweak some of the battery charging behavior, and maybe that has an issue of some sort.
