I know of at least two fellow N900 owners that don't even know what Maemo is, much less talk.maemo.org. Expecting a large company (such as Nokia) to use these forums as a means of communicating/resolving issues with the device is absurd, and expecting every owner of this device to come here and search is even more absurd. With that said, the original poster obviously knew about these forums, and yes he could have resolved a few of his issues with a simple search, but there are so many people out there that have the same complaints. These people would benefit more from Nokia implementing features that are more-intuitive rather than someone telling them to "omg google it!" |

Some of us don't mind googling and reading up and digging into things, but the casual person that bought this device as a cell phone may not appreciate that grumbling admin attitude that some people rightfully or wrongfully express to them. In ALL cases, it's to Nokia's (and the maemo.org community at large) advantage to listen to the swath of customers (geeks and otherwise) that bought their device or are interested in their device but haven't purchased yet. The dismissive attitude of 'go and google yourself' doesn't help. :) |
Re: N900: huge dissapointment
I installed vpnc right out of the gate. The initial version for the N900 had a bug with the /etc/resolv.conf which was fixed shortly thereafter and now there are no issues with it. But reading the OP's page, I'm pretty sure he doesn't even know what /etc/resolv.conf is or even how to fix the issue with amazing "hackerish" things like vi. :D

You'll have plenty of time to ponder such things when you get a time out. ;)

Re: N900: huge dissapointment
Following five things are very useful and common and almost they are in every mobile set. And in my view, if N900 would not have these common and important features, it would be a very bad spot on its repute as it is the one of latest mobiles and has comparison with I Phone and other latest mobiles. In contrast, in my view, if these features are also considered in the coming software, N900 will simply would be the best.
1. Service commands(last digit as # and has specific purpose for the sim network) .. e.g *124# to check balance in ufone pakistan. *161# for balance inquiry in STC Saudi Arabia.. Dont you think that this is a very very very common thing even it is there in Nokia 1100, but not in N900?? 2. Add a group on which ringer alerts you even you have silent mode. 3. Multimedia Message MMS.. People really amazed when they hear that N900 dont have MMS. I reply them that it has email. you can send email to anyone. But they reply that the receiver has to open internet for email in computer.. While MMS can be seen from Mobile.... It is a very valid point. Please consider.. 4. Video Call. If you dont intended to add this feature.. Why is this front camera for?? Every latest mobile support video call. 5. When the set is connected to a charger, the screen light does not turn off automatically. I think a bug in software.. |
