It's like the "unboxing" videos some people feel obliged to post to youtube. After seeing the 20th one presenting exactly the same content, it starts to get slightly boring :D

when nokia seriously expects it to be their flagship-product, the marketing-departement of nokia shouldnt ignore it like they are doing now.

but then again, making a flagship (even mainstream maybe?) device with linux never worked, i guess.

that said, seeing how awesome the community is, i dont consider this a major problem. the n900 will live on. maybe not forever, but for a long time.

It's a really hard call I think (referring to the Nokia advertising). I only purchased my N900 4 weeks ago; I read the hype and the grumblings in equal measure. I think I bought this device caveat emptor - I knew what I was letting myself in for I think.

I know one thing, I have never spent so many hours messing with a phone, reading forums and searching the net for answers to (probably trivial questions). But that is part of the draw for me.

I laughed at myself yesterday about all the excitement over the latest firmware update for UK users. I must have scan read 18 pages of threads about it - and I seriously don't think anyone knows quite what the purpose of the update is (apart from a prep for a major update to come next week).

My guess is there are three main categories of users of the N900:

- serious Linux/Maemo people who love this phone as a platform for their hobby or vocation of developing

- retail consumers; who have an affinty with Nokia products and like the idea of what Maemo (and hopefully Meego) stands for. And ofcourse dont mind wasting half their life trying to understand half the stuff that's posted on here; and

- smartphone buyers - this poor group......well they made the wrong decision.

Like Nokia, I never refer to my N900 as a mobile or smartphone; it is indeed an amazing mini p.c with phone capabilities (and "potential").

The potential relies solely on the developers who I (as a humble 'user') hope continue to make great apps and push forward this phone and it's future incarnations.

But Nokia have some major decisions to make and confirm about their future aspirations for their highend phones (whether N or E series).

p.s I was an I-phone user for all of one month before I got my N900. They are two extremes for me. I'm so glad I got the N900!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha! No, I didn't, great shots :D
And It's pretty good roundup too. One guy who is obviously extremely pleased with it, while the last guy seems a bit puzzled, must be one of those thinking "damn, this thing is huge!?"
