Re: Fix for Class 10 microSD cards
I'm using a class 10 SD card with kernel-power47 (I self-compiled it, mind you) and my diff patch from page 1. So far, no problems at all and no errors in dmesg.

In that case I had swap mounted on the SD card. I suspect it did threw up the 'cannot read' error detailed in the first post, effectively ripping the swap out which caused the device to insta-death cutting power from the card. This killed it. More recently the replacement card started vomiting the same errors and actually required to be hooked up to a 'dows box the get it going again. That was the stimulus to trying this patched module again. The n900 had JUST been reflashed and I was in the process of loading all my appz when I tried. It succeeded. So, I used this module because my card, an 'LX Patriot' class 10 16GB was displaying the same error as detailed in the first post. All seems stable so far (1 week). Don't get too carried away with the numbers, there are some sandisk class 8 cards that easily perform in the same league as this 'class 10'. You just have to go look up various reviews and benchmarking sites. |
Re: Fix for Class 10 microSD cards
GAH! **** LX Patriot. LX Patriot suck. LX Patriot are rubbish. LX Patriot manufacture garbage. LX Patriot will get bad reviews.
That is the second LX Patriot 16GB class 10 SD to crap out and die. I was doing nothing special, then one morning I try to access my SD card and its not working. Can't ressurect it with 'doze or 'nix! AAARRRARARRGH **** LX PATRIOT. This was has happened with both the patched SD reader module and the 'regular'. Clearly the problem is the shitty LX Patriot SD cards. protip #37 DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM LX Patriot Edit:Ranting aside, can anyone suggest a reliable manufacturer/brand of micro SD? I want 16/32GB class 10. |
Re: Fix for Class 10 microSD cards
Patriot class 10 first booted Gnome on a Beagleboard in about 90 minutes. Sandisk Class 2 in 20 minutes. Go figure.

Re: Fix for Class 10 microSD cards
The 32GB microSD that I used to have working died, and is no longer found by Maemo. My 8GB class 4 microSD card is working though.
EDIT: It started working after being inserted into a computer |
Re: Fix for Class 10 microSD cards
Any plans about incorporating path into kernel-power (by sending data to pali), just to make it won't be omitted in kp48?
Sorry if this topic was covered in kernel-power thread - I'm at area with low edge i.e. low chances to search successfully for something @ multiple pages. |
Re: Fix for Class 10 microSD cards
I've already asked for it to be included; I think it's in pali's git tree now. I hope he'll start using the kernel-power garage page instead though, as I find it far easier to browse than have to git clone all the time ;)

From released sources I see that Power Kernel v48 hasn't applied your patch :( |

I use Kingston 16 GB C10 and have zero issues with it. I use the same type of card in both my N8-00 and my N900 and have no microSD related problems. I've had a few issues with a Sandisk 16 C6 in my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic that reformatting took care of. |
