Re: Very bad browsing experience after firmware update!!!

I installed it. It's in the status bar, here's how: Go to the control panel, select Navigation, then status bar. Tick Load. It'll show up there along with the battery etc. Select it, a menu (with 'Run') pops up.

Edit: Heck, this one is nice.. I think I'll keep it. I like it much better than the previous statusbar/load applet I tried. Screenshots, delayed screenshots.. good stuff.

I really appreciate the help!

It should be listed in the Navigation -> Status bar applet in Control Panel - you have to add it to the status bar first, then click on it in the status bar to access the Run... menu option.

EDIT: Thanks TA-t3 for sorting it out... ebunny I explained all this in my original post! ;)

So did it work - were you able to enter the gconftool2 command and fix your WiFi?

I when clicked onto the applet and pasted gconftool-2 --set --type int '/system/osso/connectivity/IAP/wlan_sleep_timeout' from my notpad and clicked ok I am assumming it saved it. I am presently at work and not within reach of a WIFI hot spot so I cant test it so I hope it works. I will be sure to check when I am in range.

I don't suppose I had to put in a specific number at the end did I?

Once again thanks!!!!

You have to paste it as specified numerous times on this forum - it ends with a number in single quotes, eg. '1000' which represents the timeout in miliseconds. The current default value with the new firmware is quite low, you need to determine a new higher value that works for you but keep it as low as possible since a lower value improves battery lifetime. The old 3.2007 firmware default was '1000' (1000 miliseconds or 1 second).

When you paste the command into the Run... text bot it will be executed immediately when you click OK - don't bother enabling the "Save" checbox, and enter any old rubbish for the Save Name (or possibly leave it blank).

Got it, thanks!! I am starting at your previously mentioned '200' and will go from there.

I sure hope one of these days I will catch on to this new to me OS system. Sounds like it can be very user friendly once one gets the hang of it.

Regarding the applet -
When I follow the link provided by Milhouse it says the applet is for OS2006. Will that work on the N800, or is there a OS2007 version that I missed? I have passed on a bunch of extras because they said they were for OS2006. I just thought I couldn't use them on the N800.
After 3 months with this, I'm still such a noob!:D

Re: Very bad browsing experience after firmware update!!!

It works fine on the N800, latest firmware. Most OS2006 apps will work on the N800, with a few exceptions. At least the simple applications should be mostly safe to install (as the one mentioned), there are some others though that'll drag in tons of dependencies and that can mess things up a bit, there could be some conflicts there if there are multiple (OS2006/OS2007) versions. Before you install a 2006 app, tap on the 'Installation' field in application details in the application manager. There you'll see a list of additional files that will be installed alongside the application. If it's a long and scary list - skip it (if it's a 2006 app, for 2007 it shouldn't be a problem).
